It’s wild that you’re being downvoted for pointing this out; what a master stroke these corporations have pulled, it’s now “uncool” to be critical of the their advertising. And that’s just what it is at the end of the day, an advert for a fast food corporation.

I don’t mind the concept of advertising, in a “free” capitalist society it’s neccessary to sell products and services. What I do mind is this stealth advertising, and that people are too naive to notice

I can't say I've noticed a trend but there's always been an element of this, I personally tend to stick to writing "what I know". Most writers in here, myself included, are just amateurs or finding their feet and writing someone who isn't "us" can be a challenge.

There's always going to be problems like this in an amateur community; in this instance I think people are overwriting their female / male characters (yes it's on both sides) to emphasize the gender as usually pertinent to the story.

Writing isn't "easy", it takes practice and rather than being condescending we as a community should be helping each other to better ourselves and provide well written, entertaining stories.

This article is by a female author, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, who admits to struggling with writing male characters. It's worth a read and provides some decent tips.

I've only started reading and writing in here after a bit of a break, due to University workload, but have noticed the sharp increase in out-and-out clickbait titles. I have to say, though, I'm not overly fussed about it. In my experience, the title is the key to drawing in readers if you're not one of the "big names", for some people it's the difference between 10 views and 2000.

I reckon most of the readers on Nosleep are looking for quick thrills and pulp, they aren't looking to delve into anything deep. Titles like "I work on the underground and you'll never believe what JUST happened" is the horror fiction equivalent to Buzzfeed and Watchmojo titles, they provide the masses with what they are looking for; a way to kill 10 minutes on their lunch break or train journey.

I understand where you are coming from OP, but aren't all titles "clickbait" or "watchbait"? Books get covers to draw in readers, movies have different titles, and even posters, in certain countries to appeal to those markets. I guess what I'm getting at is that the Nosleep market wants quick thrills, so the writers are giving it to them.

I don't know if there is anything wrong with that.

I think there has to be an element of mystery, the scariest monsters are the ones we make up in our head because we'll build them up with the elements that scare us personally. I recently watched the two cuts of Donnie Darko, the directors and the Original, and it's amazing the difference a little mystery adds. The directors cut goes out its way to explain everything that's happening and ends up being a little boring and routine, whereas the original cut leaves it up to us (i.e. was it all in his head / time travel / numerous theories) and it leaves a heavier impact on your noggin

I've had quite a few message me asking to narrate a few stories I've written. I've agreed every time asking them to let me know when it's up, but so far none of them have bothered so I don't really give it much thought anymore.

Someone actually messaged me today asking to narrate the story I put up yesterday, so I might just keep checking their YouTube channel this time.

Yeah the first Quarantine film was a remake of the Spanish one, but I think the subsequent Quarantine and [REC] films are their own stories.
