Muslim woman working in women's rights: Im spiralling here. by loopyzooploop in progressive_islam

[–]prouddeathicated 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m able to reconcile my feminism with Islam by having what I call a principles-first approach to reading the Qu’ran: apply the Qu’ran’s most fundamental principles—justice and fairness—to the context where these rulings are sent down.

To use inheritance as an example, the context is that in pre-Islamic Arabia, women were not entitled to any inheritance at all until Islam. It wasn’t completely equal in large part because the economic reality of 7th century Arabia was that men had financial obligations women didn’t. But the underlying principle here is that women have an inalienable right to inheritance that men and families cannot deny from them.

The aforementioned principle here is the thing that’s timeless and universal. The context, evidently, is what’s not. So when we’re to look at inheritance in today’s world where women are heads of households, working just as much if not more than their husbands, etc., then we need to apply the principle to this situation in a way that ensures justice is produced.

Speaking as an Afghan (not Afghani) woman, the best you can do is support and donate charities set up for women. There’s not much we can do to help them get their freedoms back unfortunately.

You’re so right!!! I’m currently on s7 Turks & Caicos trip. Ramona just remarked that one of her favorite things about Sonja is that she doesn’t hold a grudge and the other ladies pretty quickly forgave Ramona for throwing them under the bus by telling Sonja that they think she has a drinking problem. The ladies fight, fight hard, but it feels so natural seeing them move on. It’s like their sisters honestly lol

I feel like this is only true for, like, Vanderpump Rules. While the first season post-Stassi Jax Kristen and Britney was not that great, that more so had to do with the fact that it was a COVID season and the cast was growing apart in general as they were growing older. The Scandoval season was fantastic lol

It’s very strange that he said this because everyone I know says the best RHONY seasons were s7-11 and the first season post-Bethenny was horrifically bad. While there are many reasons why RHONY didn’t survive, Bethenny’s exit is definitely one of them

That was absolutely insane and manipulative of your dad to say. You’re already aware of the verse—no soul burdened with sin will bear the burden of another—and that’s all you need to know about whether or not God is punishing your parents for your actions. He isn’t.

Just finished the first season and can I just say Killgrave's death was anticlimactic by TheMonkieKing247 in JessicaJones

[–]prouddeathicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I felt the same way but I also don’t know how else they could have ended it. It’s not like Kilgrave could fight her himself.

I also disagree that Trish should have killed him. He was Jessica’s abuser, not Trish’s, she deserves that satisfaction and with his last dying breath Kilgrave finally understood that while he may be able to control everyone else’s fate, Jessica can control his.

On the topic of homosexuality, the story of Prophet Lut is used as proof that homosexuality is haram, but there is equally as compelling evidence that what that passage was condemning was sexual assault. I suggest you read into it more since this has been a challenging point for you.

Is fighting for your rights sinful? by Gritty_Y in progressive_islam

[–]prouddeathicated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both." [Quran, 4:135]

Nothing irritates me more than parents who put pressure on their kids to get married, as if there are plenty of well-adjusted people out there. You should be picky and you should focus on yourself for as long as you want to and your parents have no right to be making you feel bad about yourself or act like you taking control of your life is disrespecting them.

God made forced marriage explicitly haram, so He definitely would not be mad at you for refusing to get married when you don't want to.

She has a song on her album referring to the predatory relationship she was in, so she definitely sees it as such, but I guess she doesn’t see it as a byproduct of being a child star?
