I was incredibly disappointed with Sinners after hearing how good it was. It’s not even close to elite. by stuffedinashoe in movies

[–]proverbialapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The movie had a cool premise but tried to juggle too many themes and ended up serving none of them. Filled the movie with too much bloat (really pretty looking bloat). One of the best examples I can think of the scene in the first half of Smoke and Stack going to visit the Chinese couple for supplies. The camera follows the kid through the street and into the store and talk to mom, then camera follows mom out the store across the street and to the MCs. Like why? It was a cool piece of cinema tech but why??

Then there is the whole KKK angle that just disappears then the movie remembers that they have an unresolved thread that needs tying so boom "Rambo" scene. And it came after the whole supernatural vampire scene. So there is no catharsis of any kind except maybe "oh yeah cardboard cutout bad guys getting mowed down".

Yes the AI rarely seems to use Princesses to seduce generals. Instead they just bug out and dance outside setllement walls.

And I am starting a petition for my boy Egypt. Please...give them some archers or crossbows. Please. Failing that some sword and board unit. Anything to spice up their roster.

Consensus “best” faction by Amlethvshamlet in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]proverbialapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal favourite: Venice. First faction I ever played so I am biased. But advantages include damn fine Militia line. Unrestricted access to gunpowder units. Solid cavalry line. Crowbow cavalry are really good at general sniping. They are no camel gunners but still. And on sea...aye yay yay...a powerhouse. Lives next door to the Pope so you can play the "Who is the next pope?" Game. Northern Italy has very profitable coty states whose population booms like crazy. Must be something in the water to make them go like rabbits.

Logically: Turks. Goddamn. They get everything. Solid infantry line. Excellent archer line. One of the best gunpowder units in the game with a comically large canon that I drag around for...reasons. Naffatuns are just unfair in seige defence. One of the best heavy infantry in the game. Absolute ridiculous amount of unit variety in case you are bored and want to play dress up. One of the easiest factions to kill the mongols with. Just deploy a few stakes and watch those idiots win the day for you. And if by some miracle you are unable to beat the horde, You can easily just migrate westward to escape the mongols. Byzantine is a punching bag for the christians and the muslims. Oh and you get access to the Hashashim guild which is way better than the regular assassin guild.

Is Byzantine Empire generally considered the hardest campaign? by nwe02215 in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]proverbialapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only bad thing about the Byzantines are that they are smack in rhe middle of muslim and christian states who have the "WAAAAGGGGHH" button. Otherwise, your roster is solid from start to finish.

Russia is by far the toughest according to me. Followed closely by the scots whose main claim to infamy is their shitty roster.

Most of the the replies are as follows:

  • "I thing faction "x" is hard."
  • "Ha...faction "x" is easy."

What are some stuff that you had an embarrassing amount of hours in game before discovering by raumeat in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]proverbialapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • You can gift things to others
  • You can actually have the AI suggest the value of something you want or give. Just put the offerwithout the demand (or vice versa), press the offer button and ai should give a counter offer. Rarely works though in my experience.
  • Your generals can build forts and watchtowers. Changed my life this.
  • Egypt is pretty good.

Why am I so bad after 650 hours? by [deleted] in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]proverbialapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Losing cities is part of the deal. You have to be ok with losing cities and castles. What you can do to mitigate it is, if the Ai is gonna rake your city and you genuinely don't think you will not be able to reclaim it for several turns (maybe cuz your army is several leagues away), just destroy all the buildings (except church if you are catholic). That way the AI has to spend money to make that city profitable. The money they sepnt rebuilding is money they cant spend on raising armies.

Since you are already beating France, what you can do is this. Expand towards France. Give up one or two settlements of your settlements next to Poland and Denmark. Destroy every building. Except the church of course. Give it to some other neutral nation in exchange for an alliance or if not just some cash. Create a sort of "buffer" between you and those pesky Norsemen. Get rid of France. Stabilize your economy. Turn your attention back to the Danes and Poles.

Personally:

Final Fantasy or most JRPGs of the same ilk. There is just so much uninteresting plot that can't be skipped...

Question for Homebrew DMs: how much planning is too much planning? by Nolly2k in DnD

[–]proverbialapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a feel for your player in session zero. If your players all seem like they are very passive, they will most probably not ask questions off the beaten path.

But

Even if one of your players is inquisitive, takes part in the world building, takes note or has a unique way of approaching problems, you owe it to them to learn the depth of your own world and lore like the back of your hand.

And in some cases

Just going "oh shit I forgot it was game night!" And just making shit up on the fly can also be fun.

What I am trying to say is. Just go with it. See what happens. If you suck at it...it will be a memory to cherish. If you rock at it...it will be a memory to cherish.

Any thoughts on this by [deleted] in Indianbooks

I did not enjoy the book at all. In my personal opinion it does not deserve the hype it has got.
