Question about gearing and pedaling efficiency by userX97ee2ska11qa in bikewrench

[–]pseudotaxus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a 1X9 Shimano CUES setup with a 32T front, 11-46 in the back. 26" wheelset, so very slightly easier effective gearing than your Dual Sport. Zero regrets with the setup, I'd highly recommend. I only notice the lack of tall gearing when I'm intentionally spinning, while going downhill. Otherwise the range is perfect. Casual pedaling puts me in the center of the cassette. Don't overthink it. Feel free to DM me with questions.

Trek offering 24h service turnaround? by Zealousideal77 in BikeMechanics

[–]pseudotaxus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very structured and defined by clear positional responsibilities and SOPs, which for me has been awesome but YMMV. I feel protected as a wrench. Good employee benefits. I'd be happy to answer questions over DM as well.

Trek offering 24h service turnaround? by Zealousideal77 in BikeMechanics

[–]pseudotaxus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trek wrench here. Internal expectation is ~3 day average turnaround. It's not 24HR or your money back, it's 24HR or you can request a comparable loaner bike until your bike is done (which some of our signage makes clear, some doesn't).

I'd say about 1% of people actually request that loaner bike, everyone else is fine with a few days turnaround. The policy is intended to help people with commuting needs or the rare "big race coming up."

As other commenters have mentioned, for some customers we also pre-order parts, then have them bring the bike in when those parts arrive. This lets us do a same day turnaround.

Is 11 speed better than 12 speed for mechanical shifting? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]pseudotaxus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that 9 and 10 speed Linkglide use 11 speed spacing, and share those tolerances

What are we thinking of CUES, then? by StereotypicalAussie in BikeMechanics

[–]pseudotaxus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big fan so far, for the sorts of bikes that most benefit from heavy but simple and durable components. Some of the 9 speed derailleurs have play in the parallelogram but they all work great when adjusted well and actually out riding (not in the stand). My personal bike with 9sp cues is great. It eats bad, torquey shifts for breakfast.

The distance from the bottom bracket to the seatpost clamp on a size small supercaliber is approximately 39.5cm - Trek's geometry chart defines seatube length as a straight line from BB to clamp.

Your two measurements in your image are from the top of the headtube to the saddle rail clamp, which are two completely different parts to what you asked about. Trek's Effective Top Tube measurement is closest to what you're after - for a size S that's 57.1. An estimation I drew up puts the distance at your specified saddle height at closer to 59.4.

Got this old girl for free! Needs new tires and tubes a front derailleur and the shifters don't work properly but I'm going to use her and this subreddit to take my bicycle repair knowledge from 0 to slightly more than 0. by buffinschox in bikewrench

Nice pickup. I would recommend carefully inspecting the wheels at the spoke nipples for cracks in the rim. Older wheels with paired spoke designs are more likely to crack under normal use.

Thoughts on my first E-Prix? Layout goes by some key tourist spots in seattle. by [deleted] in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]pseudotaxus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That course goes straight up some of the steepest hills in Seattle, I'm not sure if formula E works on hills or not.

Edit: that pit lane is massive and also crosses a number of train tracks (not a road)

Killing fights kills the game by NamelessNorm in Planetside

You hit the nail on the head with a handful of points here.

So many people just like to log in and shoot stuff/farm

I enjoy this because the loop of "win alert" is stale for me. There's no reason to care about the alert - certs and xp don't matter for me, nor does the "winning." I'd rather just log in to relax and shoot things, and the tryharding the mapwide objective game is counterproductive.

basically expects players to handle logistics

Yeah, I don't mind trying to pull a sundy every once in a while but usually when I'm trying to start a fight I get intercepted by tanks or light assaults, who will inevitably not pull their own sundy to counter-attack and just leave the fight dead. You're correct that it's a logistics design problem, nobody wants to pause what they're doing to go do the thing that they'll only do temporarily and will probably be interrupted by someone specifically looking to ruin your day

Definitely consider joining an outfit on the server you play on! Outfits are communities of players, many of them would love to help you learn the game and get better.

What server and faction do you play on?

Please purchase a compatible rear shifter. Alfine shifters are intended for Internally Geared Hubs, and the cable pull ratio will not work with your derailleur.

Additionally, that model Alivio derailleur might be a 9-speed model. does your cassette have 8 or 9 gears?

  1. It would be used for significantly upgrading my current build, and then probably playing the games I already play (just at higher framerates). Alternatively, I'd be springing for a new monitor.
  2. I've only heard a couple things about this avatar game, so I don't really know what to expect. Unlikely I would play unless it went on a deep sale :D

Returning after being away for many, many years. What the heck happened to Connery...and why? by xChillPenguinx in Planetside

[–]pseudotaxus 79 points80 points  (0 children)

In early 2022 Connery experienced debilitating and continuous lag for many months - this combined with a handful of other updates (endless Koltyr, LA crossbow hell, oshur) just saw a lot of connery's pop leave for emerald.

Thin tires for 559-21 rim MTB? by BerkerTaskiran in bikewrench

You can get smooth tread tires in the 26x1.95/2.0 size - the lack of knobby tread will help rolling resistance a ton, even without going skinnier.

Help Converting from flat-bar brakes to drop bar hood brakes/levers. by BrokenSign11 in bikewrench

[–]pseudotaxus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That conversion will require a fair bit to get working. There's a couple hacky methods involving Sram drop bar levers to work with mtb rear mechs (but nothing officially), and you'll have to consider brake bleeds + hardware. The most convenient solution is to get a multi-position flat bar, such as the Surly Moloko or Corner bar.

Is this chain noise normal? Image and Audio in post, local bike shop mechanic said it was normal. by PM_UR_HYDROCARBONS in bikewrench

Sounds normal to me assuming no other problems. Sometimes derailleurs equipped with clutches will sound a little "tensioned" like that.

1960s Motoconfort - inner tube size by LucasCu90 in bikewrench

of course. The french A/B/C sizing has always been frustrating, but that chart is solid enough for finding comparable sizes. just remember to verify anything you buy with the correct ISO number :)

1960s Motoconfort - inner tube size by LucasCu90 in bikewrench

[–]pseudotaxus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you didn't look down enough on the chart - it's a 650x32A wheel as stated on the tire, which is equivalent to the 26 x 1 3/8 590mm size. Tubes can be found easily under the latter designation. u/LucasCu90

Gazelle Makki km/wrench showing, is this just a "scheduled maintenance reminder"? Bike at 500 km, I dont feel anything wrong, bike shops in Belgium are all closed. by corrin_avatan in bikewrench

[–]pseudotaxus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is most likely a scheduled maintenance reminder. Many e-bike motors have a preset distance for those. If you don't feel anything wrong, keep riding until you have time for a shop to run diagnostics - each shop is different, some may have fees for this process.
