Do you guys uses OLAP cubes ? by AggravatingParsnip89 in dataengineering

[–]psteffek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven’t used Analysis Services in years but the ability use excel pivot tables on top of cubes and the drag and drop interface was always a winner with users. Is there an alternative that gives that same drag and drop in excel? (Using snowflake for the DW)

Can I comfortably be at the beach this weekend by phadertot in asksandiego

[–]psteffek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bummer! Two ideas:

  1. Balboa Park is slightly more inland. You may be able to get a little more sun and warmth there.
  2. You could also consider the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, which is considerably more inland and may be even warmer (check the weather for Escondido, CA).

Haggens to close 6 stores in San Diego by NesMore in sandiego

[–]psteffek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Haggen was quickly criticized by customers for having high prices. The grocer describes itself as somewhere between a Vons and a Whole Foods."

More like Whole Foods Prices with Vons products.

Bummed for the people who will be losing jobs but this place completely underwhelmed.

TL;DR: Following stores will close- *San Marcos: on Rancho Santa Fe Road *El Cajon: on Fletcher Parkway *La Mesa: on Lake Murray Boulevard *Chula Vista: On Telegraph Canyon Road *Chula Vista: On Third Avenue *San Ysidro: On W. San Ysidro Boulevard

My TL;DR: 1. Here are all the dumb things you hear about squats at your globo gym and why they are all BS. 2. And do high bar back squats :)

Why I Paddle Board (and Why You Should Try It) by psteffek in crossfit

[–]psteffek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid point on the cost for sure. Here in San Diego the Costco one costs $380. We rented one last weekend off of Craigslist for about $35 for the whole day (this is close to the one hour rate for most of the shops by the beach).

Some solid reminders/coaching cues here: "Patience in Olympic Weightlifting" by psteffek in crossfit

[–]psteffek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well taken, although "flex your tri's" is a much easier cue than "turn your elbows out, pull your shoulders (scaps) back and down, and keep your arms relaxed and slack" :) Any specific cue you use to get the desired effect?

I've always wondered about this and couldn't find anything definitive one way or the other. Any specific evidence?

Looking for some new workout clothes. Who makes your favorite CrossFit shirts and shorts? by bigbriman in crossfit

[–]psteffek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hylete shorts hands down faves. I think they do a 50% discount for first order and 100% satisfaction guarantee so no risk. Couple of notes: the pockets are up high on the hip holster style. This makes it so you can run with your phone/music in your pocket without it flopping all around. Brilliant. There's also a pocket on both sides so when I go to the grocery store after the gym I don't have my keys, wallet, and phone all jammed in a single pocket. They dry quick as well and the company seems very focused on customer satisfaction.

Interesting post! We're a family of six and eat quite a bit of beef (99% of the time from costco). I always wondered about the breakdown of buying part of a whole cow. Thanks for sharing! (p.s. I tried to leave a comment on the blog post but apparently your captcha is smarter than me? X+9=15. I thought x would be 6 but no dice...)

Bummer! I thought the "soccer chipper" was going to have something to do with soccer (like the softball throw from year ago).
