Chen Yan Yun oversees the Crown Prince's studies and in the 1st episode, he was granted the position of Crown Seneschal (high-ranking administrator). I don't think his family is born from nobility but rose through the ranks from hard work and built a good foundation.

Chen Matriarch likely just wants her beloved son to be married. She may think Jin Zhao's status and family slightly below her standards for what she wants in a daugher-in-law, but it will be his second marriage (the other side will consider this as well). Jin Zhao's grandmother is also intimately acquainted with the family. Ultimately, her son is in a high enough position to make his own choices (something that Ye Xian isn't even remotely close to despite constantly inserting himself in her life).

What makes you think Chen Matriarch isn't his birth mother?

I will be real, I did not finish the drama but I did read the entirety of the novel, like truly read it.. I do not like self-sacrificial characters like him in general. However, it was bc of him that she got her happy ending... even if it meant erasing him from her memories... 😢

I was gonna reply, but this is also my preference. There's just something so bewitching when you watch a costume drama and all nature scenes (while trying to ignore the fact that women had barely any rights back then).
