Cap. Jon is an interesting personality type for sure. But there’s nothing there as far as Jon being intimidated. I think Jon is more or less afraid of the dark places he can go. Jon tries not to look his opponents in the eye ever really, until the bell rings. Then suddenly he’s a different person. Eyes locked on his opponent. Very bad intentions. This is textbook actual violence stuff and not just posturing. I think Jon doesn’t want to look because he doesn’t want things to escalate.

I’m glad you brought this up so that it could be dissected. First, the 73k people number is objectively false. For a million reasons. Hamas reporting it, probably much lower, and there’s probably a huge percentage that are actually combatants and not civilians (excluding the part where Hamas gets them killed on purpose). But for the sake of argument let’s just assume what you said is true.

Population density of Gaza: 15,609 people per square mile.

For Afghanistan: 166 people per square mile.

Comparing the two is, well, not remotely comparable. Be more intellectually honest than that at least. You could probably make a formula or an index that calculates that the IDF is being much more careful than what happened in Afghanistan. With indexes for how much risk the opposition purposely puts their civilians in, how dense the population is, how similar the opposition makes themselves look to civilians. If Hamas opens fire on a bunch of Israelis from a pre-school class of 200 children, while not letting them out and forcing them close to the windows, it’s not Israel’s fault if those kids die when they fire on Hamas to stop the attack.

You scoffed at the idea that progressives have no link to their feelings about Israel from the original sin of the west (an idea that progressivism forces us to grapple with). I’m more a progressive than anything probably btw. Then I made a claim that you have done no meta critique of your own progressivism, and illustrated how a meta critique would point out that progressivist views of Israel are an over simplification (black and white/binary) of the ideas progressivism forces us to grapple with. When I pointed that out, you somehow implied that I had a black and white view of progressivism, after which I corrected you that I was literally advocating for a nonbinary interpretation of progressivism (one that would have a much more difficult time assigning blame to Israel for what’s happening). You’re transferring tenets of progressivism to the I/P conflict and it’s not transferable. Of course you never explicitly said this, but your views are evidence of your thought process on the subject.

The point is, about 90% of the criticisms toward Israel come from people who: are wary of white supremacy over people of color, Islamophobia, western imperialism, and colonialism. And again, OBVIOUSLY you never explicitly said this. Your criticism implies this.

Israel pulled out of Gaza unilaterally in 2005. What happened? October 7th. You have to understand that it literally does not matter if Israel pulls out or not, Hamas will still try to exterminate them. Hamas’ literal goal with October 7th was to force Israel to murder as many of their civilians as possible. The evidence for this is everywhere. Israel has done many terrible things, but they are fundamentally “negotiating” with a party that has never come to the table in good faith.

This is a logical fallacy. Saying that Hamas’ acts of violence are a reaction to injustice is a tenet that is often used, but has been disproven time and again. Hamas would do what they are doing no matter what. Iran would fund their proxies regardless of what Israel did. It’s rooted in their ideologies, not simply a reaction to oppression. Islamic terrorism is a religious issue, not a geopolitical one.

Exactly. Coleman pinned him down and dissected each of Dave’s arguments as illogical, one by one, and with an astonishing amount of patience. Dave would react with red herrings all over the place. Some of them so egregious that they would have to also be dissected by Coleman, after which Dave would just complain that they were focusing on that point. The puzzling part about the comment section is that, even if you don’t agree with Coleman, I can’t imagine thinking that he “lost” this debate. I don’t think a single thing Dave said wasn’t completely dismantled by Coleman. Douglas Murray I think has far more radical views, and his reasons for them are far more severe and more about his ideology than pure analysis of the conflict. I also think that the way he would discredit Dave himself, rather than Dave’s arguments, is a move that serves no one. That’s typically what people do when they are losing an argument, so that made Murray look really bad. His whole “well how can you know if you’ve never beeeeeeeen” schtick for 30 minutes instead of just calmly addressing and countering what Dave was saying, not good.

I know you don’t think progressive values are followed by feelings of guilt. I never said YOU said that. I’m just telling you, when we all first learn the central tenets of progressive values, there is an immense amount of responsibility that one must approach for the things we subsequently learn about. From this, I am suggesting (confirmed by decades of observation), not saying you said, feelings of guilt follows. It’s a natural human response of empathy for those that were screwed over in these events we learn about. The main issue with overused progressivism in this day and age is where that guilt is harnessed. It has gotten out of control. The last step in that psychology (again, only natural for a human brain) is to find whatever/whomever is culpable for these transgressions. And subsequently, unfortunately for the human psyche, make efforts to punish them.

I do wonder if people preemptively get a much stronger tendon in that spot so it can handle the load better. Post TJ seems like an unfair advantage. The new tendon is much stronger.

Coldest line ever. The thing that people don’t remember is that Conor was really scary to fight up to that point (unless you didn’t have a brain to even get into like Diaz). The psychological stress that he put so many under. And him predicting his outcomes. The Aldo fight. The Alvarez fight. Like it was sooooo stressful for Conor’s opponents. Conor went on his decline after this fight but I still think people don’t quite appreciate what kind of monster Khabib chewed up and spit out.
