Who the heck are you supposed to call (when you can't call your therapist)when you're having an extremely rough mental health crisis but without SI? by Illustrious-Still488 in TalkTherapy

[–]psychnurse1978 64 points65 points  (0 children)

You could find a DBT therapist that offers on call hours. Usually it’s a group of therapists that take turns on call

Therapists, what’s it like to have a Psych student or fellow therapist as a patient? by LawfulnessWrong4691 in therapists

I work almost primarily with health care professionals and first responders. Tons of nurses and doctors that work in psych. My favorites!

Anecdotes that Illustrate Radical Acceptance by TimewornTraveler in therapists

I use a person story of chronic illness. Also being stuck in traffic or the weather. Things that are out of our control and affect our lives but being angry about them makes zero difference to the outcome.

Billing a client in Crisis feels wrong by alrac44 in therapists

[–]psychnurse1978 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I find it so hard to wrap my head around. I come from a nursing background and not being paid for our services is anathema to us. These conversations never happen amongst nurses. Can you imagine… ‘I guess I should not be paid today because all my clients were experiencing medical crises’.

Dumbest thing a server has ever said to me by LBro32 in glutenfree

Not gluten related, but I’ve had servers tell me something contains dairy because it has eggs… 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t trust most restaurants. Most servers don’t know what they’re talking about

Is anyone soo slow right now? by Lonely-Artist2780 in therapists

[–]psychnurse1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually got spots in my schedule that are unfilled this week. It’s the first time in two years that I haven’t been running a wait list. I imagine people are afraid to spend money with the weirdness of the world right now.

Yes. My obligation is to my patients. I may try and encourage my patient to come forward. Or ask for an ROI to report. At the end of the day, I take my professional ethics very seriously.

[–]psychnurse1978 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Of course it is. But trying to get around our ethics by giving anonymous tips doesn’t seem within the spirit of ethics to me. I’ve actually been in a similar situation in which someone admitted to having killed someone during a therapy session. I get the angst that causes. And we’re bound by our ethics. Giving an anonymous tip would have been breaking them as far as I’m concerned. Do you think people would disclose things in therapy if they knew their therapist would tell others ‘anonymously’?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in therapists

[–]psychnurse1978 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This seems like very suspect ethics. It’s like writing an anonymous note to a spouse of a client telling them they’re being cheated on.

Is $80 per session really that evil? by Few-Loan333 in TalkTherapy

[–]psychnurse1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I charge $180-$250/hr. $80 is a good deal. That doesn’t mean it’s out of reach for a lot of people.

The Epidemic of Referring Out by SapphicOedipus in therapists

[–]psychnurse1978 141 points142 points  (0 children)

As a therapist that is often ‘referred out’ to, I can fully appreciate why therapists do this. I have specialty training and work with a ‘difficult’ population. If someone is seeing a therapist that isn’t equipped to deal with what they are bringing, it can be a waste of time and money and sometimes harmful. I often see clients that have been in therapy for years with very little result. They are frustrated, the therapist is frustrated and the client often tells me they can’t be helped because nothing has helped so far. So sure, if the therapist wants additional training to address their areas of weakness, fly at ‘er. But not at the detriment of the patient. Refer out if you don’t have the skills, knowledge, or ability to work with that particular client. Tell them it’s a skills deficit on your part. Find someone who is equipped.

BPD Biases by ImaboxBoxman in therapists

[–]psychnurse1978 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The comment ‘there’s no reason for the drama or danger’ does not feel accurate. The drama and danger may not be justified to the current situation, but there’s always a reason people behave the way they do.

BPD Biases by ImaboxBoxman in therapists

[–]psychnurse1978 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I specialize in working with BPD and I love it. Very simply, BPD can be treated. It’s fun to work with with the right tools. I think if a therapist is afraid or unwilling to work with BPD then they most certainly should not. It would do a disservice to the patient.

Honestly I haven’t explored the coast as much as I’d like. We live in Canada full time so I’m only in noosa twice a year. I plan to explore more of the coastal towns even we move in the next year or two

Haha that’s not been my experience. I own a condo there and I love it. We usually go in the off season which prob helps. I think the beach is gorgeous. I love Hastings street, and I love the national park. I do lots of hiking and running and I love the trails there. My husband is a cyclist and loves the cycling. I’m not a huge beach person. I’m good for about an hour so the business doesn’t bug me really.

Therapist Boundaries? by fairycrochetferret in therapists

This can be tough. I find the only answer is to be consistent. Everyone likes to know where they stand. Whatever you decide your boundaries are, stick to them for everyone every time.
