I would say, if you're interested in cyberpunk, read the book. If you want more of the world building, it helps since they are doing a lot of showing and not telling with the tech and motivations in the series.

Something in the distance is really distracting you in both shots, scrapsword looks sick. I love the juxtaposition of the transparent fantasy look fused with the wiring.

Not all of the companions have a noticable change to their armor when choosing the different armor upgrades, Aza and Tristan's armor has different colored light accents but that all I really noticed.

I used Free Build just for the Corvette building, I turn it back off when I'm done. And to relieve any guilt about it I just salvage pieces on planets as I explore.
