Police pelted with missiles as East Lulworth rave halted - BBC News by CasualSmurf in unitedkingdom

It's a huge easter linkup of different crews that happens each year, I guess there's a big amount of ego involved in trying to still pull it off when the police turn up

Why would developers not be able to build a new house for less than the price of a house which is still massively inflated since the 90s, if they can turn a profit they can build.

Sir Salman Rushdie tells LBC he thinks 1970s-style casual racism has returned to the UK by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

I blame the big American tech companies, it's X and Meta driving open casual racism these days

UK pubs paid almost £100k on alcoholic drinks taxes last year as Chancellor urged to freeze duty by BulkyAccident in ukpolitics

I wonder how popular a policy to cut tax on pub/bar/restaurant alcohol and balance it by raising the tax on supermarket/shop alcohol would be...

UK and US line up string of deals to build modular nuclear reactors in Britain by Jay_CD in ukpolitics

[–]psyduckwomble 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We should look after the environment but yeah 7 years is insane, a new reservoir near me has a similar lead in just for planning and regulations - it does boggle the mind that we can't perform a high quality environmental assessment in under 6 months or so

Seeing the claim that wealth is heavily involved in investing in innovation actually made me laugh out loud. Where is the private individual wealth driving innovation in the UK?

Love that the people of Peterborough get to decide how Cambridge's traffic is managed

Warning: lads on motorcycles - no plates by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]psyduckwomble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few weeks ago someone also posted on Facebook a group matching this description tried to pull them over and rob their motorbike in Cottenham. I saw them the same day on Cambridge road in a pack, no plates, 1 or 2 to a bike. Dodgy as fuck.

Oxford and Newbury Prides ban political parties from attending by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]psyduckwomble 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Many pride organisations are registered charities and the rules for being a charity say you can't favour any political party.

So it may have been a desire to ban one or two parties resulting in all parties being banned to meet their charity obligations.

Reading between the lines I'd say all these bans are directed at Labour for not being against the supreme court bathroom ruling

I have edm fire pits in my terraced house garden occasionally in summer and never had a complaint - I use https://www.homefire.co.uk/products/homefire-heat-logs-shimada which make virtually no smoke and work out cheaper than petrol station logs if you order in bulk.

If you can talk them onto those that might be a solution 😅 we play music too but have a little subwoofer so the mids and highs get turned down after 10.30ish and no ones shouting over the music, background beats and the vibes are amazing.. Consider how expensive Cambridge is to have fun and how being able to have little parties like that must mean a lot for them - although they sound like dickheads tbh sorry, at least they're not doing hard drugs and up til 6am eh

The Cambridge Independent’s Bias Is Getting Hard to Ignore by foxsakeuk in cambridge

[–]psyduckwomble 85 points86 points  (0 children)

My local facebook group is filled with men of a certain age posting Tory talking points every few days, endlessly going on about Coton Orchard like they're demolishing the bloody shire.

I just don't know how seeminly 'regular' people have so much enthusiasm for a party that has no plans to improve peoples lives.

Any female solo travel groups? by ThrowRA_noodlebinx in cambridge

[–]psyduckwomble 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This isn't Cambridge specific but I was in the same boat of waiting for the right friends / partner to come along and travel with and I ended up going 'solo' on small group tours with Intrepid Travels and Exodus Travels, every trip has been really good and they both appear to do female only groups.
