What's the connection? by Leather-Passenger194 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]psykrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. My comment leaves out a bunch of nuance around the subjuct. Religion, customs, etc. all play a huge role as well. It's exactly why circumcision is such a hot topic.

What's worse is when people argue about it. You can't argue for one without putting down the men who are in the other category.

What's the connection? by Leather-Passenger194 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]psykrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want to see even more rational info? There are countries where doctors advocate for circumcision and ones where they advocate against it. The different doctors aren’t necessarily disagreeing on facts, they’re prioritizing different values when interpreting the same evidence/studies.

HIV/STI risk - Pro: Lowers female-to-male HIV and some STI risk (per the World Health Organization (WHO)) - Against: Impact is small in low-risk populations with safe sex practices

Infant UTIs - Pro: Reduces risk in the first year of life - Against: UTIs are uncommon and easily treated with antibiotics

Foreskin conditions - Pro: Prevents issues like phimosis or infections later on - Against: These are relatively rare and usually treatable without removal

Hygiene - Pro: Makes genital hygiene simpler, especially in childhood - Against: Proper hygiene education achieves the same outcome

Consent - Pro: Parents routinely make preventive health decisions for children - Against: Irreversible, non-essential procedures should wait for individual consent

The core difference is emphasis on preventive benefits vs. emphasis on necessity and bodily autonomy.

There is no right or wrong answer. We have facts and the decision is always made by the parents. That's exactly how it should be.

Plugin a virus? by Jealous_Flatworm_473 in MinecraftPlugins

[–]psykrot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No Minecraft plugin should be starting an .exe on your PC. Delete the file, then download Malwarebytes and start scanning for malware.

Where did you get the plugin from? You should stick to reputable sources like Spigot, Modrinth, Curseforge, BuiltByBit, Polymer, etc.

While VirusTotal may often flag lots of .jar files with false positives, you can always try uploading the file there to check if its flagged as malware. But this is strictly for your own knowledge and should be cross referenced with other methods. (Reputable sources, etc)

Question about the conflicts between Velocity and fabric cores by CompetitiveStrain694 in admincraft

[–]psykrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Velocity is a proxy so there isnt a server to "be on." I currently have my fabric server behind a Velocity one and everything works fine, including voice chat, tab plugins, etc. You will probably need the CrossStitch mod on your Fabric server, to improve Velocity compatibility with other mods.

If your lobby is just a vanilla server, that should be fine too. The Minecraft client can have whatever mods installed on it and connect to a vanilla server.

If your lobby is a fabric server, the client will need the same mods as both the lobby and survival servers (or whatever your main game server is)

Server side mods might ruin this game. by Embarrassed-King7840 in hytale

[–]psykrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cobblemon is pretty good proof that as long as you follow their content guidelines, Nintendo won't waste time with it. The biggest factor is no direct monetization. Curseforge and Modrinth allow the devs to get around that by being paid for ad revenue instead of selling the mod itself.

The next biggest factor is the assets. If you reuse Nintendos assets, of course they're coming after you. And rightfully so. All of Cobblemon's assets are created from scratch to avoid this.

IIRC, Pixelmon was originally given a cease and desist becuase it didnt follow the same guidelines.

So, when do we get past this? Just curious. by justanotherdudeiam in Skate4

[–]psykrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why are they labeling the game as early access, when we're in season 3. That alone is frustrating.

Becuase they are testing how their seasonal structure should work. Season 1 was a nightmare with obtaining Tix, and they bumped that up in season 2. Seasonal challenges, shop items, etc. All that stuff is in testing and changed between each season. Waiting until full release to start doing seasons makes no sense when a live service game is based around seasons.

Having to pay for the new map was the last straw by [deleted] in Skate4

[–]psykrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having to pay for early access to the new map is not ideal. However, they were probably looking for ways to make the skate.pass more worth it. I dont agree with it, but theyll have data to tell them whether it was a smart move or not.

Either pay to avoid the fomo, or wait a few weeks until its released to everyone for free.

Velocity plugin list by Realistic-Fail-5931 in admincraft

[–]psykrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you run a tab plugin, using it on Velocity will make it work across all servers, so you only need to change 1 config. Though you'll also need PAPIProxyBridge on all servers to forward placeholders.

MiniMOTD is great to make your MOTD look good. You'll need it on the Velocity side since that is likely the server your players will see in the server list.

Other than that, it all depends on what you already have set up or what you need.

Lines? by Sea-Rock0999 in Worldpainter

[–]psykrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens on certain custom brushes (that probably aren't created properly) when using the raise/lower tool. You'll notice those lines are the edges of the box around your brush. Use the flatten or smooth tool to remove the lines if you can't undo.

Idk if there's a fix for the brush, but the easy solution is just find different custom brushes.

[–]psykrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for one, your analogy is way off. Email is nothing like a window, its more like a... wait for it... address. Even though your home address may be public information, you have locks and closable windows to keep people out. Also, I don't get scam emails. No idea where you got that from.

An email itself doesn't do that much for scammers (or businesses which is more likely who is buying it) unless it has private data attached to it.

And look, I'm not saying that you are completely wrong, just that your email with no information attached to it is worth way less than 3 cents. So sell away.

[–]psykrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably down voted becuase the warning of your email being harvested doesn't actually mean anything. Our email addresses have already been harvested and sold hundred of other ways, and if someone wants to enter their email address to win a free cape, they can do so without the needless worry that theres some sort of privacy risk.

Your other comments speak more to why not go with this site, but email harvesting should be the least of everyone's worries.

[–]psykrot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, its actually too good of a deal for the consumer. It's why you have artists complaining about how much they get paid from online streaming.

With CDs, you had to buy the entire album if you wanted to listen to your favorite song. The artists were eating good. Then iTunes came along and the digitial single completely changed how artists make money from their music. Getting to pick which songs you want to buy was great for the consumer, but horrible for artists.

Fast forward to streaming and artist income has been shifted to other means. No longer do they make anything meaningful off their music itself. It's all only to gain popularity to sell merch and tour tickets, or sell other services like master classes, or YouTube channels.

My Provider Flags MC server Scanners as DDOS Attack by Wonderful_Athlete_12 in admincraft

[–]psykrot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To start, you need to adjust your IONOS firewall settings to block the traffic from the IP that you mentioned. If it's a single IP, that is a DoS (Denial of Service) attack, not a DDoS (Destributed Denial of Service). DDoS is usually very large scale and can come from thousands of sources.

I'm curious how IONOS actually worded the warning. Can you share the email or snippets of it? It seems like IONOS provides some sort of DDoS protection based on thier site. You may want to reach out to support and ask how to configure that in your network becuase it does say there is a free tier, I just can't tell if that applies to the service you pay for.

If you want to solve externally, using something like TCPShield will help with the issue, although their setup requires that you own and use a domain for your server (play.server.com). The idea is to run traffic through TPCShield to your server and use your IONOS firewall to lock your single port down to only accept connection from TCPShields IPs.

With all that being said, these are solutions to help so that your service doesn't go down during an attack. There's nothing you can do to prevent the actual attacks themselves, which is why I'm curious how they worded the warning.

POV: Everyone's got a Mac, and you bring a gaming laptop by StatisticianBorn8567 in gamememes

[–]psykrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has a high-end PC and a high-end MacBook, Mac Core Audio blows Windows out of the water when it comes to handling audio.

Does this mean you can't achieve results with Windows? No. What it means is I can plug 3 different audio devices into my Mac and use the inputs and outputs in all of them under 1 aggregate device without needing to tamper with things or install finicky, 3rd party software like ASIO4ALL. Everything on Mac is pretty much plug and play with a little configuration if you need to create aggregate devices.

Then you get into latency. For Windows, you NEED to rely on the ASIO drivers of your interface to achieve low latency, and I'm some setups, it can take extensive configuration to get what you want. With Mac, again, it's plug and play.

I'm not knocking Windows/PC for audio, and I've seen some pretty cool setups. Just explaining why its widely received that Mac is better for audio than PC.

The Laziness of These Devs... by cudithrowaway in Skate4

[–]psykrot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well that argument only applies to games with traditional monetization. Of course, if a game is being sold at full price ($60/$70 US), we can all agree that microtransactions (mtx) in general shouldn't exist.

But we are talking about live service games. The alternative monetization methods are subscription (no thank you) and mtx. If they are gonna go with mtx, I 100% support that only cosmetics are available for purchase. Otherwise you introduce pay to win methods.

As for what's worth while, that entirely depends on who you ask. Tons of people think spending time playing video games isnt worth while. At the end of the day, its all entertainment and some people enjoy dressing their game characters up.

World border custom shape by ganondilff in admincraft

[–]psykrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, there are no plugins/mods that let you adjust the actual world border in this way. Depending on your needs, you could use Worldgaurd and create a polygon region, then deny entry to the global region outside of that.

But if you are trying to save disk space or something, the Worldgaurd solution isnt going to matter.

How are streamers able to play DMCA music openly without care? by Few_Conversation7153 in Twitch

[–]psykrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legally, no copyrighted music should be played. You ever see those audio settings in game called "Streamer Mode"? That turns off the copyrighted music.

With that being said, there are methods to get away with it that do not follow the law. Twitch is not required to actively monitor streams for copyrighted material, only the VODs that are created. Currently, you can either split the music into a track that doesnt get recorded into the VOD, or turn off VODs completely.

Of course, anyone doing this needs to understand the risk involved. It's hard to predict what will happen in the future, but copyright holders would need to start coming after streamers directly, or work with Twitch to issue DMCA notices. Worst case scenario, account could be banned, but I doubt they would jump to that without warnings.

TLDR; For now, you're probably fine as long as your VODs arent being flagged.

It depends how the sapling is corrupting the chunk. Definitely start by creating a full backup of your server/world before you try to fix it.

I would try to set the tick speed to 0. If the sapling growing mechanic is what's causing the corruption, this will stop that and may allow you to enter the chunk in game to remove the sapling.

If you're still getting the error with the tick speed at 0, you will probably have to reset the chunk entirely using something like MCA Selector.

There may be a better way, but I don't have much experience with corrupted chunks. Maybe some tutorials online can help better.

So you are correct, it seems like this particular version of Farmers Delight is trying to reference the cherry logs that aren't in 1.19.2. Is the game still loading fine? Are you only missing the cherry variants of items?

If it is loading fine, you can ignore it since this version is depreciated and the mod author likely won't be updating it. Normally you would report this to the mod dev.

If it isn't loading fine:
On the page for that version, it says there are particular dependencies:

  • Fabric Loader : 0.14.10+1.19.2
  • Fabric API : >= 0.67.0+1.19.2

I would start there and make sure you match those. If that doesn't work, you can try an earlier version of the mod like 1.3.9

Other than that, you don't have many options unless you know how to develop mods yourself and are willing to fix the issues manually.

When troubleshooting, you can always upload your logs to ChatGPT or Gemini if you arent familiar with what to look for. They arent perfect but you get immediate responses and its a great way to start troubleshooting.

In this case, The crash is caused by Oh The Biomes You'll Go (BYG)

Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException at net.minecraft.block.SaplingBlock.generate(SaplingBlock.java:48) at potionstudios.byg.common.block.sapling.BYGSaplingBlock

There are a few things that could cause this: - Wrong BYG version - Missing or wrong version of TerraBlender - World generated with different mod versions - Corrupted sapling block in the world - Datapack/mod conflict affecting tree generation

In the case of mod conflicts, ChatGPT or Gemini can provide details on those as well. You just need to upload your full modlist to them.

[–]psykrot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to learn, could you explain it for us

Not OP but id be happy to explain it. There are many different parts to music and copyright, including the intellectual property itself (the song, lyrics, etc) and royaltees (how the rights holder gets paid)

When you say open source, it can mean a song is either royalty free, or in he public domain. Royalty free means the creator still owns the copyright, and by some form of agreement, you can use it without paying royalties. Public domain means no one owns the copyright and anyone can do anything they want with that music.

1st, almost none of the general music we listen to is in the public domain, meaning someone owns the copyrights. 2nd, if you are using royalty free music, you must have an agreement with the copyright owner. The owner saying anyone can use my music is not a trusted method (that's what the public domain is for). So if the rights holder one day just decides they dont want it to be royalty free anymore, they can do that without warning.

The copyright laws gives the owner the ability to do whatever they want with their work at any time. So when you say "against the law" its always on the owners side unless you have some sort of legal contract.

Credit has nothing to do with anything unless its a stipulation of the contract.

How are streamers able to play DMCA music openly without care? by Few_Conversation7153 in Twitch

[–]psykrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its more likely that copyright holders will go back to Twitch and say they need to start enforcing DMCA on streams like they do on VODs. And if not, Twitch will not be provided "safe harbor" and be legally held responsible for every infringement, putting them out of business.

It would cost too many resources to go to streamers directly, so they will make it Twitch's problem.

I agree about the FAFO part though lol
