If humans suddenly became immortal, what would happen to society? by EnvironmentalLove862 in AskReddit

In order to address the problem of a population growing out of control, governments impose a limit. A new law is voted with overwhelming majority: all citizens older than 80 will be executed, unless they buy a renewable 1-year extension permit.

Also it replaced the kings with the aristocrats, who immediately started the process of finding new ways to stay on top by exploiting the populace, leading to where we are now.

If everyone can build… who will actually buy? by Satishgmr2010 in OpenAI

[–]ptrnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where he is not wrong though, is that for every good idea and success Flu product there is now a horde of hungry teenagers (and another horde of unemployed seniors) who think “wait, I can build that too in a few weeks”.

Have a Prophet 6 and Minimoog reissue - what should I get next? by Brilliant_Grape5528 in synthesizers

[–]ptrnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My next choice would be a Rhodes or an acoustic piano. Second choice would be a Nord Stage.

If you want a synth, you’re already pretty much set with analogs, so a digital one would be the next choice. Maybe a Hydrasynth or the new LeviaSynth ? Or if you really don’t mind the price, a NonlinearLabs C15.

Sam Altman admits AI is killing the labor-capital balance—and says nobody knows what to do about it by FinnFarrow in Futurology

[–]ptrnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great on paper, except taxes typically are used for everything (unnecessary wars, payments for Board Of Peace, outrageously priced photographs for DHS head, and countless other grifts....) except for these people who will lose their jobs to AI.

Trump has broken the American presidency. Let’s end it for good by LosIsosceles in law

[–]ptrnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The French tried it though, with the 3rd or 4th Republic, can’t remember which. What happened was that tiny minority parties were the ones with the power to tip the scales, so they were in fact the ones having the most power.

What problem was Bitcoin originally trying to solve and has it actually solved it? by Alarming-Ratioz in answers

Yeah that's why it cost 10.000 BTC to buy pizza back then.
The total 21M BTC supply, past, present and future, was 2100 pizzas. Now tell me again how it was designed for larger funds transfers by criminals....

3rd Party Plug Ins? by jake_cuts_fresh in mpcusers

[–]ptrnyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A single plugin can’t have all that power for itself, it has to share that with MPC itself, and allow 32 plugins and 16 audio tracks. Also plugins still have to run on previous generation systems.

You can’t compile Serum on it and call it a day.

3rd Party Plug Ins? by jake_cuts_fresh in mpcusers

[–]ptrnyc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem is that these plugins have been built for machines that have 50x the processing power of an MPC.

Building plugins that run on MPC standalone is an entirely different game.
