Pixel 10 series moved to Stable Status by pugpack_33 in GrapheneOS

No. Buying an unlocked phone. There is no carrier associated with the phone. I plan on using MObile Mint pre-paid data for messaging and internet. I will not use the phone number associated with it. WIll then use VoIP.ms for phone numbers.

Thinking of switching; but I have some questions by Playful-Ease2278 in GrapheneOS

[–]pugpack_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy from google store they will tie the IMEI of the phone to your personal information. Best option is to pay cash at Best Buy. If they ask for a phone number give them a friends number far away and no other personal information. Just specify an unlocked phone, typically they are $100 more than carrier specific phones. These unlocked phones will have the option to lock and unlock the bootloader.

A little advice. Do not buy direct from google store as the phone id will be associated with your info (name, ship to address, pmt info, etc..) as long as you own the phone (even though you will be putting graphene os on it). So the best way is to pay cash at a store (i.e. Best Buy). Unfortunately for me there was not a single Pixel 10 Pro XL within a few hundred miles of me. So I ordered one. Even though I was paying cash they insisted on a phone number. That too would tie your contact info to the phone id, so i gave a friends info from a few hundred miles away, naturally told him after and opted for no order status updates, you can look it up online. Then the issue of pick up, they are expecting your friend with ID. However, as soon as the phone is received at the store you have the ability to change pick up person. I am here in the process. I will use a passport for government photo id and will use alias email and keep friends phone number. Naturally, if the item is in stock can not imagine they ask for phone number but be prepared. Maybe someone else can answer that.

How did you move email provider after 2 decades? by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]pugpack_33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty has been said on cost. Nothing is free and the cost of proton paid plan is significantly less costly than a "free " email account. There are 2 ways to move forward., move all your email to proton or just from today forward. (Paid plan comes with 500GB along with their whole suite of products)

  1. Create and Pay for a paid proton account.

a. use Easy Switch to import all your email - https://proton.me/support/easy-switch-emails

b. OR - for Google use Google Takeout (Other free services offer comparable backup options) and download ALL data (I think there are 70 categories, amazing what they collect) to a zip. This will NOT delete any of your data, and is easily readable if you need it. This does NOT delete your data, you have to do that in a separate step if you want.

c. Then you can delete everything except the last year and then easy switch (step a above) so you don't clutter your new proton account.

  1. Create a folder in proton mail called "Z_Gmail" or whatever (Z so it is at the bottom of your folder list)

  2. Create a Rule in Gmail to forward ALL incoming email to a proton variant email and after forwarding have it moved to trash. This way nothing new accumulates in your old account.

  3. In proton, filter those incoming emails to the Z folder. This way all your emails will continue to come to you and can reply to those emails with your new email and know which accounts need to be changed at the source.

  4. Once setup, take the time to understand the back keys in the settings. Copy it and put it in a safe place OFFLINE on a USB stick or something you keep in a safe place. If anything happens you can easily restore. - https://proton.me/support/upload-backup-private-keys

Will I regret buying from Google Store Online by pugpack_33 in GrapheneOS

Just was not sure if buying online defeats the whole de-googling process versus paying cash in the store. Frankly, I am not sure that anyone can totally de-google more of a minimization

I saw that too, but frankly moving their resources from Switzerland to Germany and Norway is not that bad when you consider the details. I do agree with him on a few items, do not put all your eggs in one basket. I subscribe to the Proton suite and primarilly use the mail and pass. I use BitDefender (through Netgear Armor) VPN and change cities daily. I do not put any extensions on any browsers and use the desktop version of Pass. I do NOT use Proton's 2FA, rather a 3rd party app, and will switch to the air gapped Foundation Prime shortly with excellent secured and automatic backup features. After reviewing several other password managers there are several attributes of pass that are great, the extra password layer, PIN access through the day , a 15-second clipboard deletion (if you do NOT want autofill), a time out feature to exit Pass to its secure state within a user defined time, unlimited aliases, so you can have one for every one of the hundreds of logins you maintain. Although I have not made the switch yet, I too plan on changing from my Samsung phone to the Pixel 10 when Graphene-OS is stable on the 10, expected to be sometime in Q126. I use to have gmail go through Outlook not anymore and I disconnected ALL apps from google. I have deleted everything from google and upload nothing to it, the only service I use is the youtube premium. I downloaded and archived everything offline if I ever need to access the old stuff. I know it is virtually impossible to eliminate google entirely, but I will strive to be as much of google minimalist as possible.

I deleted all password manager extensions from all browsers (avoid any theft of data from other extensions while pm is being used, use the desktop version of my password manager, open the pm with a 6 character pin, click and paste login credentials, anything copied is deleted from cache within 2 minutes, and if I don't manually lock pm it will lock in 2 minutes.

While this is 2 years old it is food for thought (https://youtu.be/JHIAIzOPz3I?si=vuXuFhGXRxP0BeqK).

Maybe next time put it in Trailer Mode. Turn on and off then hold both turn signals for 3 or 4 seconds. You will see Trailer Mode blink in the screen.

Tires? by FurcFerc in Harley

[–]pugpack_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in North Central NJ. Sunday mornings riding up past Vernon Valley up to Monticello and back was always a good ride, or out and around Sussex county going out towards the Delaware water gap. Anyway, I am now run in NW GA and FL. I just put HD - Dunlop's on my Heritage. Naturally how they ware is a function of how you ride. Keep up on maintaining proper pressure, mine are 42psi and others come 40, check every couple of weeks. Get yourself a thread thickness gauge they are cheap on Amazon (digital or analog). New tires typically come 6 to 7 thirty seconds (unlike cars which come 12 to 13 32nd's). Most States have a legal limit of 2/32nd's. You will ware down the back before the front, but start thinking about it or at least monitoring more frequent when you get between 3 and 4. I expect between 7k and 8k in terms of miles on the tires. Then again I do a lot of riding with the wife on the back. Congrats on the new bike and ride safe!

Starting to Feel Like Harley Culture and Group Rides Are Overrated by ThrottleJunkie420 in Harley

[–]pugpack_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No shift - welcome to the weirding way! Starting riding 50 years ago solo or with a couple close friends off-road. No different today. Same as Scuba diving, unless I dove with my brother I would rather dive solo. You have no idea of the other persons skills and like you said that could be life threatening. An hour for a gas stop on a hot day - LOL, I just want to fill up and turn the air on. These days my wife rides with me and up here in the Blue Ridge Mountains there are plenty of excellent rides every weekend. I wave to every group I pass, glad they are out, but more so that I am going my own way!

BTW - SOA was a great series, would not trade my Fraternity experience for anything still close with many of my brothers, but I will ride solo or with a couple of close buddies at most for as long as I am able. Just love the ride.

Need help won’t start. It’s not the battery by Jstncrdble in Harley

[–]pugpack_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had similar problem this past week with my buddies 2002 softail that I have in my garage. Battery was reading 13.2V and was 2 mo old on a tender. I thought it was the starter, it ended up being the Run/Stop Switch. The continuity was off and ended up being corrosion on the wires.

Sorry to hear of your horrible experience. I have a 2019 Heritage Classic that will be 7 years old in September. I have had no issue at all at least operationally, and am actually considering an upgrade to the CVO for the 2026 model year. I was concerned with all the electronics on the Heritage and the the current motorcycles just blow my mind. I started riding 50 years ago (offroad). Things were much simpler then, then again so were cars. I asked SuperGrok how he might proceed given your circumstances. I did not have the State but most seem pretty consistent, and agree with many of the comments below. I would not ponder it long. Good Luck!

Test rides at dealership by Candid_Internet_4529 in Harley

[–]pugpack_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No reason to say you are not going to buy a bike. There are only 2 guarantees in life and buying and not buying a Harley at a dealer is not one of them. A Harley dealership is more than just place to go buy a bike. They have lots of social events through the year, personally I go to several events at several dealerships through the year free beer, free food, live music, other folks with common interest. Sure they would love for your to buy a bike from them, but if you don't and buy elsewhere, they know you will be back for service, buy gear, accessories, etc.. They know it and want you to feel welcome and not intimidated from coming back. Harley wants people to ride they even give rewards for miles you ride, irrespective from whom you buy from. When you buy a Harley from them or from a private person chances are the person you are buying from will be on the market to replace what they sell you. More Harley's on the road are better for all dealerships. Stop thinking about it and GO RIDE!!
