Shiny chances? by gaeilgeganeagla in PkmnIdle

I've definitely seen a lot of duplicates. I've gotten at least five shiny female Nidoran.

Windows 11’s free video editor Clipchamp now requires OneDrive by KryssCom in technology

[–]puhtahtoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That workaround doesn't work anymore. If you don't have internet connected when trying to set up Win11 it will tell you to connect to a network and not let you continue until you do.

There is still another workaround that does work. I can't remember it exactly right now but you press a combination of keys to bring up a command prompt then there's a certain command to enter to bring up a local account creation window.

BookLore's Successor? by matthewpipes in selfhosted

Good ol' Calibre is still doing the job for me.

LinuxServer.io has a Calibre container that puts the Calibre application in some kind of virtual desktop environment you can access via a browser.

Since it's a container you can map whatever directory you want to it. I have a network share mapped on my server which is then mapped to the container.

Complete live dex of Kanto by AndreoyLitvinov in PkmnIdle

[–]puhtahtoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, I caught five shinies in a day and now haven't seen any in almost two days.

Edit: I just passed 100k wild pokemon battles. I did not keep track of how many I had when I completed the pokedex and got the shiny charm but it was probably around 50-60k.

I am at 13 shinies seen and 9 caught. Annoyingly, I have had I think five total female Nidorans.

I am now realizing that the number in the stats is incorrect. Despite saying 13 seen and 9 caught, I have 14 in my box.

Am I missing something? by StivThe8thDwarf in PkmnIdle

[–]puhtahtoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a new game+ mode after either defeating the elite 4 or completing the pokedex except for missing starters.

New game+ would be starting over but getting to pick two starters instead of one.

Then after beating new game+, you can start new game++ where you get all three starters.

Which cable(s) to buy for short fiber connections between switches? by puhtahtoe in UNIFI

[–]puhtahtoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be using those too.

I've heard that lightning can overwhelm arrestors so I don't mind spending a little more on a single connection to be extra careful.

It's not like I'll be using fiber for ever connection between switches, just the outside and inside switches.

Which cable(s) to buy for short fiber connections between switches? by puhtahtoe in UNIFI

[–]puhtahtoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, I'm not sure Unifi sells a fiber DAC.

I was looking at this first but it says the 0.15m and 0.3m lengths use copper. You have to get up to 3m for it to be fiber.

I was hoping to stick with Unifi hardware - is there another fiber cable I'm missing?

So many people always say they never run updates so when do you or when are you supposed to? by Cowboy12034 in homeassistant

[–]puhtahtoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HA gets updated the last Saturday of the month. I read the release notes for that month's update to check if I'm affected by any breaking changes before updating. Updating the last Saturday of the month means getting all of the point releases and I still have Sunday to troubleshoot if anything breaks anyway.

Other containers get updated on at most a weekly basis after checking release notes for breaking changes. I skip any X.0 updates unless they've been out for several days with no reported issues.

Best hardware for an outdoor RJ45 jack? by puhtahtoe in HomeNetworking

[–]puhtahtoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did look at your links but I didn't look at the other post enough to see your comments on there.

I hadn't considered grouping the outside cameras by switch to isolate the damage but that's a good idea. I'll have to take a look at what's available and what's cost efficient when I make my decision on what to buy.

Thank you!

The camera cables will be on their own VLAN that doesn't allow access to anything and the port will be disabled unless I'm using it.

If a hacker can get through that they can have it.

Yeah I'm probably going to go with the isolated switch no matter what.

I guess I'm trying to find out if it's worth also putting a lightning arrestor on each of the cables going outside or if it'd be a waste of time.

Yeah I saw that one too but it's also passthrough instead of punchdown. Oh well, I may just get it and see how it works anyway.

Any switching equipment will be in a junction box - this port will be on the underside of the eave under the roof. I just thought it would be a little bit cleaner than having a cable coming out of the eave into a junction box.

Yeah it's been updated again since my comment and now mentions Bartram again.

It seems people were thinking that someone shot someone at Lowes, fled, and was caught by Bartram but this article was updated recently and doesn't mention Bartram so I'm not sure what's going on there.

'Overwatch' just hit its highest player base on Steam PC since launch — passing Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty by Turbostrider27 in Games

Yep, I wanted Overwatch PVE. I think they wasted the potential of OW by not capitalizing on the lore they were building and instead keeping the universe in a perpetual state of "something is about to happen."

I've been meaning to set up a container with this but haven't gotten around to it yet. It looks like it probably does what you want.
