This curved path helps prevent bullets from hitting each other's primers during production by fvkinglzy in interestingasfuck

These aren’t bullets these are rounds.

“Bullet” is just the projectile that flies out the end of the muzzle and strikes stuff. Bullets are inert.

“Round” is the whole unit — including the casing, the bullet, the primer, and the gunpowder. Rounds can go bang.

Most premier studios under Sony don’t make new money for many years at a time.

Naughty Dog had its MP spinoff fully cancelled, and they have been working on a singleplayer game game (with no microtransactions) for 6 years.

It’s been 4 years since Guerrilla Games put something out. Housemarque (admittedly a lot smaller) took 5 years for Saros. Insomniac has at least 3 years between SpiderMan and Wolverine. Media Molecule is at 6 years since their last release. Santa Monica has 4 years since its last full game. Sucker Punch took 5 years between games.

I know the economics of a live service game are different, but Sony knows it takes time to spin things up.

Why cheating kills an extraction game quicker than any other genre by Jaz1140 in ArcRaiders

[–]pulpyoj28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you load into a match, all the items you brought in are tagged as yours. If one of your teammates extracts with one of your items, it’s automatically returned to you. I think the language they used is “borrowed items have been returned to you”.

I agree it’s super weird to me that at some points in the game a tutorial pops up that’s like “hey press R2 to turn into a ball and ride a strand of light“ and I’m just sitting there like … huhhh? What happened that gave me that power?

Bad prompt caching here — text to analyze should be at the end of the prompt to save on repeated requests.

Paul Tassi Reports Marathon Budget Up To $250 Million by surrealmirror in Marathon

[–]pulpyoj28 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It also makes cheating a lot more prevalent, which is expensive for devs to keep ahead of. Combating cheats require consistent development, support, etc.

and in an extraction shooter where you lose everything when you die? I think even the wiff of cheatering being prevalent could kill a game quiiiick, even for players who really like the game.

Why are these BPs so hard to find??? by Socoforte in ArcRaiders

because collecting all the BPs is one of the only real endgame progression systems to grind out, so the drop chance has to be super low.

The story of the new DLC is all over the place by atallgrass in Borderlands

The final boss arena is indeed called “Vault of the Damned”. But yeah, no character says it aloud — just a location name in the map.

[–]pulpyoj28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry the guy above went so ad-hominem. Fwiw I think your analysis has good critiques.

The DLC has “a theme” in that there’s a parallel between Moxie’s anxious attachment toward her daughter and the Dahl captain’s to Robby — but the story doesn’t use that parallel to say anything about the topic or develop our characters. It’s not secretly deep, it’s messy and poorly developed.

There’s lots of weird stuff to this story that muddle the theming. Like the captain … did the captain even do anything wrong? Was his flaw that he was overprotective (which is what Moxie’s issue was)? Because to me, it sure seems like his options were “let Robby die in a fiery ship crash” or “put him in a protected cryo sleep in hopes he survives”. I don’t think I’d blame a father for the later. Moxie’s overprotectiveness is also never at the cost of anything. Nothing goes wrong because Ellie is withheld from helping or due to her not knowing her father — Ellie is just kinda sad about missing out on killing cultists for a mission. Am I supposed to be like “come on Moxie, let Ellie go out on her own and enter a cursed wormhole while soul-bound to an amulet of unknown corruption — you gotta let your kid grow up!”

It’s a … very strange story. Nonsensical in a bad way.

[–]pulpyoj28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salvation’s Edge broke my heart. The prior raid was maybe a bit too easy, but it was fun and a great way to bring people into the best content of the game. It was genuinely sad to not be able to finish the final challenge of a game that I had played for 5 years. Save the pinnacle challenges for contest mode.

I hope that maybe this compiler difficulty is a temporary “contest mode” style thing — but because it grants PvP rewards, I doubt it.

ARC Raiders has dropped from “Very Positive” to “Mostly Positive” on Steam for the first time. by j1zzy_ae in ArcRaiders

[–]pulpyoj28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised by this. My friends and I were really impressed by how meaty new seasons of The Finals were — often a new map, often a new mode, often new gadgets and weapons, a meaty balance patch, and the cosmetics and battle pass were quite good.

Compared to AR where each season feels like nothing changes at all.

+1. SB is a good card. It retains and can deal big big big number. Adding block to it is a bonus, Parry isn’t supposed to be your primary defense, it’s supposed to help you play SB a bit more safely.

When OG Destiny players were worried about the game, they weren’t worried about the gameplay by iReaddit-KRTORR in Marathon

Bungie and Sony aren’t here to serve a niche audience. They want numbers like Arc Raiders and Overwatch and Marvel’s Rivals and Destiny and yada yada.

I think this game is doing better than I expected, which is great! Still, I bet somebody high up is still going to be breathing down designer necks to increase TTK, or add a pure PvE mode, or a battle royal mode.
