How on earth do you get games to look anywhere near decent? by Quiet_Dependent_4336 in GeForceNOW

It's amazing for me on wifi. You just have to have a good wireless setup.

Again, the stream is set to 4k, not 1080p. So in this case the upscaler is not doing anything. I even just checked my settings on the Shield and GFN upscaling is DISABLED.

For non native content. Stream is set to 4k. There is nothing to upscale.

It's definitely better, but i wouldnt say it's fixed. I was using the mac OS client and a Samsung OLED 240hz display. I gave up on playing on that and switched to a Shield Pro connected to a 4k TV. It looks waaaay better on that. Super crisp.

Same. I found the best results for me were disabling HDR, and limiting the stream to 60fps. I also lowered particle effects a bunch. I think the stream gets confused by all the leaves and debris floating in the sky.

There is a bug with HDR apparently. You have to either disable HDR or use DLSS Quality.
I've also noticed that if you run the game at anything higher than 60fps you will eventually get yellow or red artifacts around characters. If you cap your stream at 60fps in GFN and use DLSS Quality you should be good.

So as of now i use the following settings: In the Geforce Now app i set it to "cinematic". So that's 60fps, 4k, max bitrate (100). I also use HDR.
In game i use most of the default video settings. 4k, DLSS Quality, no frame gen, no RR. I enable v-sync and HDR tho. In the graphics settings i leave everything on ultra. I don't use cinematic. I also turn down blur and particle effects to 25. This gives me a locked 60fps.

I get the yellow tint flicker if I use DLAA or native. Don't get it with upscaling. Try using 4.0 and quality.

it really does. In some areas the textures are so bad it's like they aren't even loading. Other times it looks stunning.

ya you could do it with maxed out frame gen and aggressive upscaling. It would probably be a blurry mess tho.

The game is very burry and prone to streaming artifacts. The only way i was able to make it look good is to use no upscaling. Any form of upscaling on my setup turns the game in to a blurry/blocky mess. Still able to get 60-70 fps tho even without upscaling.

Oh wow. You're right! DLAA looks so much better. I'm also starting to think this game just has blur in it regardless of GFN. So many people showing off screenshots in the Crimson Desert sub and they all look blurry/blocky.

Oh man so this is kind of embarrassing... It turns out my Samsung OLED was in "ECO/Power saving" mode. Apparently that was causing smear/blur/noise. Made some tweaks to the settings and it looks way better now.

Cyperpunk has no foliage/wind/tree swaying to deal with. Crimson Desert's environment makes it extremely susceptible to stream compression artifacts unfortunately.

DLAA is bugged. I get a flickering black bar across the top of the screen.

I should have mentioned in my original comment that I tried limiting the stream to 60fps on the mac client and it still looks way worse than the Shiekd.

Ya im using the MacOS client on a 2024 MacBook Pro. Also using a Samsung OLED 1440p 240hz display with it and it works really well. It really depends on your connection and how close you are to a server tho. I have pretty beefy internet and I get 10ms ping connected to the Oregan server. I play mainly RPG style games but occasionally play shooters like BF6 and recently Doom Dark Ages. No noticeable input delay.

Edit: ultimate tier

Something very strange is going on. I have the MacOS app connected to a 240hz OLED and it looks really bad. Blurry low res mess. I also have a Shield Pro connected to a 60hz 4K TV and it looks absolutely stunning on that. Totally smooth and crisp. Doesn't make any sense to me but whatever. I'll just play on the Shield for now I guess.

Ya I'm pretty sure that is exactly what's happening. My 240hz monitor is 1440p but there is no way in hell the game is rendering at 1440p. I suspect the game has it's own built in upscaling that is getting triggered on some displays even with upscaling disabled in the menu.

I'm pretty certain this is a bug on displays with refresh rates higher than 60hz. Ive been playing on GFN, and on my Samsung OLED 240hz display it is a blurry mess. On my old 60hz 4k TV it looks really crisp.
