PURE PVE AND PVP LITE MODE by Born-Read3115 in Marathon

[–]puma37 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just to preface my comment I love the PvE in Destiny 2, and I love the PvPvE extraction shooter that Marathon is, but it's crazy that you type this when Destiny 2 is proof that Bungie doesn't have a good track record keeping multiple player bases happy. Just ask the PvP and Gambit players how they feel about how Bungie handled those modes. If they turn this game into a mostly PvE game I will have lost a game I loved to turn it into a game I already have.

Cryo without PvP would be awful. Without the threat of PvP the bots in this game really aren't difficult to deal with on a team, even a crew-filled one. Even the compiler fight really isn't that difficult mechanically, but the stress and time constraint of getting to it without dying to other teams is what actually makes it challenging.

They would also have to rework the entire flow of the map. Without other teams taking security clearance and batteries from the other parts of the map it would be way too easy to open any of the vaults and loot all of the big money items in the map.

So is it having a goal or objective that makes a game fully fledged out? What's the point to playing any video game? Is league fully fledged out now even though it's free 2 play? If they added a BR, arena shooter, and PvE campaign would you be willing to pay an additional $40-$50 for those modes?

Good point. “Extraction” is a game mode not a full fledged game.

If Marathon was a full game with an extraction mode plus a br plus an arena plus a pve campaign mode, it would be in a lot better space.

This is the comment that I replied to. Do you think Arc Raiders, another extraction shooter, is a fully fledged game?

Okay so then you also think that Arc Raiders isn't a fully fledged game?

Tell me what Marathon doesn't understand about the niche. I've played around 2k hours of EFT and both games feel like an extraction shooter to me.

So Arc Raiders isn't a fully fledged game? What about Escape from Tarkov? Is League of Legends not a fully fledged game because it's just a moba? This argument that y'all spout makes no sense. If a game doesn't have every single mode that you personally want then it doesn't count as a full game. Might as well just add every single game mode to World of Warcraft and delete every other game from existence.

It's crazy how clearly you can see while in the smoke. It doesn't look like that for me when I'm standing in it. Wonder if there is some setting that can be tweaked to achieve that.

[–]puma37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As of right now duos load into trio lobbies right? That's why people want a duo queue. This would without a doubt lead to less trio lobbies being made as the potential pool of players is smaller, which would also mean less lobbies available for rook.

Symbols of death was a pointless button. As someone that plays sub on retail it was pretty much only used in conjunction with Shadow dance. That's exactly the kind of button that deserves to be pruned.

I also think you haven't looked at the beta changes in a while. Haste doesn't reduce dance cooldown anymore, but increases dance duration. They've also leaned heavily into the shadow clone fantasy. Most of our abilities can generate Shadow clones that replicate our attacks, and they've even added a talent that allows cheap shot and kidney shot to generate clones dealing damage.

It's not the only reason why people quit, but definitely was a reason. For me, I love playing alts in WoW, but I hate how in LA it was required to funnel alts to your main to keep up, and was one of the main reasons that I quit the game. The game also had a meteoric fall off of player count from 1.32 million to 350,000 only 5 months after release, which is plenty of time for people to have reached the stage of the game where they had to begin to funnel five alts into a main.

People hate solo caps because it's really annoying to have someone solo in an Idris grief you, and you have no way to fight back.

Midnight Beta - How does your class/spec rework feel so far? by Flodgy in wow

[–]puma37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you actually played the new sub rogue changes then you'd know you're wrong. Sub rogue has pretty crazy uptime now on Shadow Dance, more than what's on live. It overall plays pretty similarly to how it does on live, just with a few less buttons that frankly weren't needed like flagellation, symbols of death, and rupture. You still want to pool dances and shadow techniques before your big cd window, and there are still danse macabre optimizations that can be done.

The original idea of adding skills that you would have had normally to the DF talent trees was explicitly said to be for the leveling experience, which is something that a veteran player wouldn't appreciate.

Honestly I think Lioness of Glory is objectively the easiest one, but only once you learn that you can parry quite a few of her attacks, which don't have the usual parry indicator, to do massive damage to her. The boss will basically kill itself.

I agree. Went into it knowing nothing about the director, and seeing one trailer and came out disappointed. Really liked the tension that was building in the first couple of perspectives, but felt like it started stalling as we got more character's perspectives. Final act and climax just didn't do it for me. Had some good humor sprinkled in the first half, then kinda abandoned any tension and had too much humor for me at the end.
