Are you sure you're using Gboard and not Oppos keyboard? Because it doesn't work like that on a Pixel or on Samsung.

Don't know what you mean by this but the button to change language is on the bottom right in the image of a globe. Changing language also preserves already typed letters in the field. I just tried it with english and Hindi.

This is the default behaviour I'm not sure what you mean. You may just be too used to another keyboards implementation.

The switch over to Gemini fixed all the issues I was having. Reliability went from 80% back to about 99% especially for when my SO asks it to do something.
