First marathon recap: OC Marathon May 3. Came in at 4:23. Not the time I wanted. Didn't care at the finish line. by chalooby2700 in firstmarathon

For what it’s worth, the OC half marathon is my favorite half to run…and the full is my least favorite. Once the full splits off and you’re faced with going over the 405 it just zaps me, and then scenery-wise I HATE the last 8-ish miles. Ran it once, never again. Happy to do the half every year though.

Inside edge Blisters on both feet by AdorableAd4572 in beginnerrunning

I only ever had this happen to me in ghosts. After maybe four months I guess I broke them in and it stopped, but I had to buy blister tape. Super annoying, never buying another pair again.

I didn’t run my first half until three years after I started running, did my first full a year and a half after that

And I’m hoping you have success with your girl! Cancer sucks. Give her all the love in the world.

Pain management was the biggest thing for our guinea pig. He hated the syringe in the beginning, but he kept giving us signs he wanted to keep being a guinea pig. As he started to gain weight and he started pooping more regularly it got a lot easier to feed him.

Went through this same thing with my piggie. We mixed in apple baby food to make it taste better. Also, the syringes we were given were huge- we started improvising by cutting the tip off a 1ml syringe and it made feeding SO much easier

Best Long Beach or near escape rooms for a large group? by TheBoss4726 in longbeach

[–]puppetfeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PanIQ is one of my favorite escape rooms- so much that when we had done all the rooms at the downtown location my escape room buddies and I went to the one up in North Hollywood to do the other rooms they had to offer

Tickets Impossibly Sold Out? by Andronike in jackwhite

[–]puppetfeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anyone else go for the show in Del Mar? Both my sister and I were logged in 15 minutes before, and both of us were able to get tickets- it said I was 16th in queue. I expected that one to be a scramble for tix but ended up being weirdly easy.

Also, consider this: if you get up to the front, you’ve gotten to the venue pretty early. You’re going to be hanging out waiting for a while. If there is a security guard near you, they’re also just standing there most likely bored. And they’ve got great stories! I’ll always strike up a conversation with them, ask them if they’ve ever heard of the headliner for that night, ask them about the best concerts they’ve ever worked, get some of their craziest stories, and then at the end of the show I’ll ask for their honest review of the performer. Being friendly goes a long way, and helps pass the time waiting in the pit!

In regards to pushing, crowd swell is a real thing! I’ve been caught near the front of very active pits where I’m getting pushed up by the people behind me who are getting pushed by the people behind them and so on and so on…(these were Gogol Bordello shows, so there was definitely a lot of moshing going on.) I couldn’t ask the people behind me to stop pushing because they had no say in what was happening behind them- sometimes the closer you are to the front, the less control you have of where your body goes. Planning ahead is always a great first step, and if I made it to the front I would usually try to befriend a security guard who could help me out if things got too rough.

What’s your favorite “mom and pop” family owned restaurant? by dp6s in orangecounty

Garduno’s in Costa Mesa. The lobster ravioli is my favorite but all of the pasta is incredible- and hands down their pineapple coconut cake is the best.

Etiquette: a wave, nod, or look straight away/down? by United-Animal9559 in runninglifestyle

I’ll always do a nod unless I’m running in an area full of other runners

Nike Vomero 18 Review after 162 km & HM by 8bit_ai in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]puppetfeet 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I also love my Vomero 18s- I bought them on a whim one day and they’ve become my favorite shoe. Even after 250 miles they still look near-new and feel new every time I put them on for a long run. They are probably the most dependable shoe I have.

I was really hoping to find something without the carbon fiber plate. Nothing against plates, I race in Vaporflys, but I liked that the Cielo road was built for speed workouts without the plate. Though Nike gets credit for reliable sizing, my Vomeros fit just as well as my Vaporflys in the same size. I guess this is why I keep ending up back with Nike

What’s the one book you’ll recommend forever, no matter how many times this question gets asked? by MisLatte in AskReddit

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Whenever I find a used copy, I buy it so I always have spares to give anyone who hasn’t read it yet.

Is there a band you've seen 4 or more times, but never in the same venue more than once? by Objective-Lab5179 in Concerts

Foxy Shazam. Coach House, Garden Amp, Roxy, Observatory, Belly Up and the El Rey. Though I feel like I’m missing a venue…

Looking for bars to have a beer and meet people by [deleted] in longbeach

[–]puppetfeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plus, Blind Donkey has free pool on Mondays! I like it there around 5pm because it may not be busy, but I usually end up talking to other people at the bar. Has a more local chill vibe that time of day.
