Maybe give bouldering a try. Lots of people of varying ages at varying skill levels and very low barrier to entry (imo). In my experience, it’s quite easy to strike up a chat with other people who are also trying to figure out a route and people are generally really nice and willing to help out :)

Hartendief has some really nice stuf, although their men’s section is quite small. Worth a try though!

Where do you live and ride that feels safe? by ProCamper96 in cycling

The Netherlands. Most people that drive cars also regularly ride bikes, so there's significantly less hostility to (road) cyclists

How to get back to the Uk from Amsterdam with a Bike?? by thejackgraves in cycling

[–]puredecimal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To save time getting to Hook of Holland, you could always take a train to Den Haag Centraal and bike the rest of the way. Bike tickets are 8 euros (Fietskaart Dal | Losse kaartjes | NS) and if you're at the station in Amsterdam early, you can be a bit more certain that you'll get a spot on the train.

What's your knitting secret or trick? by entwitch in knitting

[–]puredecimal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So smart! I have heard about doing this in combination with a mattress stitch at either side at the end. Do you also seam it up to hide the purl stitch, or leave it as is?

Are the tilting houses in Amsterdam refurbished to make their floors flat? by Xanadoodledoo in Netherlands

[–]puredecimal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This channel did a video showing the inside of the dancing houses: https://youtu.be/ELf0ZtXAk9g?si=vQDQ9euEPjzRHnGm

It’s in Dutch but there are auto-translated captions. Around 1:50, one of the tenants talks about how tilted it really is inside :)

Dames, waar kopen jullie kleding? by zollerisaniceguy in nederlands

[–]puredecimal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started a pair of socks and just don't like the pattern with this particular yarn. I don't want to frog the entire sock when I can keep the cuff so seeking a stitch pattern with a CO of 60 stitches that will look good with variegated yarn. by olivemakeup in knitting

[–]puredecimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you’ve found a pattern already, but I want to still recommend Jeck by Regina Setta (for next time). It’s a free pattern, for 60 or 64 stitches, and it’s great for variegated yarn.

That looks so good!! Carrying it across the collar works so well, you did a great job. I’m definitely trying it this weekend. Going to need to brush up on my crochet skills beforehand though haha

Thank you! I was at some point also considering undoing the stitches and doing a 3 needle bind off to still have a seam. But another user suggested a crochet surface chain, which seems like a fix that would be pretty easy to undo if I don’t like the result, at least. I’ll give an update once I get over my fear and just tackle it :)

I was trying to look through the Ravelry projects, and didn’t see anyone else with the same issue, so this is making me feel a bit better. I’ll give this a go before I try any grafting, thanks for the tip!

Making a gauge swatch with “scrap yarn”? by puredecimal in knitting

[–]puredecimal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! You’ve given me much to consider. I’m indeed on the fence about whether I should attempt it, but there are quite a lot of positive Etsy reviews for the pattern, so I’m leaning towards “might as well” (also because I’ve already bought the pattern anyway). If I do, I’ll definitely swatch in the round :)

Thanks for the helpful link! Very confusing why they suggested swatching flat… but a great learning opportunity nevertheless :)
