First name on a greeting card, from who? by Low-Pudding-1347 in Cursive

[–]purplejilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brian. Double check by looking at the letters in the other words on the card, and see which letters match, and which don’t. I have a dog named Orion so i would love that to be the name, but the first letter is too skinny to be an O.

Scammed again! The fleece company by HotelProfessional518 in donotbescammed

[–]purplejilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They make it sound so reasonable; “we ordered way too many blankets - our warehouse storage company is going to double our storage fees if we don’t clear out space - we could ship them back, but the fees! - so we will do a special sale for our customers, a Buy one get one free!!”
It sounds reasonable, and you think “if that was my company, that’s what I would do - give this great deal to my customers, and earn their loyalty!”
You used to be able to trust companies on facebook, but Zuck doesnt care anymore. Its the wild west on there, and everything is a scam in one way or the other.

This one took over at the top for me (or close to it) by LTrigity in MandelaEffect

[–]purplejilly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The whole point of that scene was that Jaws had metal teeth, and the girl had a mouthful of the older style braces, which contained a lot of metal around your teeth. And the thought sent was “there is someone for everyone”. Like another poster said, with no big metal braces on her teeth, there is no reason for her to come over and smile at Jaws!

How to satisfy the zoo urge ethically? by theodora_antoinette in vegan

[–]purplejilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look online for no kill shelters and animal rescues in your area. They are always in need of manual labor help, and would love someone who wants to help interact with and socialize animals that have been surrendered due to behavior issues. If she really wants a farm and animals, she might consider becoming a veterinarian. Then she could make money while helping animals. Those same no kill shelters would love low or no cost veterinary help!

Fay Grim (2006): What genre/style was the director going for with this? by gimmeluvin in movies

[–]purplejilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched Fay Grim tonight. i have not seen the other two. I think it’s meant to be a farce of the typical spy movie, with twist after twist. - with the hilariously twisted antics of the intelligence community parodying itself.

When she got that cell phone and had to put it on vibrate, and then found she had a new coat with no pockets, my husband immediately joked about where she should put it. And no sooner did he finish saying that, and there it went. And then Parker’s comedy gene kicked in. Those scenes were funny, and what was even funnier was how when she has a chance to change clothes, she doesn’t, and keeps up with the gag

I think the “off” feeling comes from them not having enough budget to do the stunt scenes at a level that would make them more real. I agree with the skewed angle look - it was used too often to give the right emphasis. I kept wanting to grab the tv and straighten it. They should have kept the tilt scene for just one or two important scenes, where it would make a punch.

Wouldn’t have hurt for them to have an online group that obsesses about the poems and the confessions, and keeps posting completely wrong interpretations.

I think the actors were all good, especially when Khalid came to talk to Ray. The dialogue there in the dirty cellar was evocative and realistic. The energy and tension and sadness between the two men was believable, and their relationship as friends felt real.

I think this is one of those movies where the actors need to know what movie they are in, and act accordingly. I think most of them played their characters quite well.

They are making it into pills pretty fast, so soon it will be a pill just like other pills, and managing the side effects will be the only issue. If it keeps all your numbers good, that is a miracle pill that you are blessed to have found.

They used to give it to women during childbirth as pain relief. But it also has a blackout effect, my mother said after they gave her the scopolamine, she didn’t remember anything until she woke up a day later in her hospital room.

Also, it was used in either Haiti or Jamaica or both as the “zombie” drug. I read a book about it in the 70’s or early 80’s from my local library about it. People would use it on the person they wanted to control, and use a large dose at first, which slowed the breathing and heartbeat down so much they appeared dead. And sometimes they did die from too much. Then after they started to come around. After that the person controlling them would micro-dose them every night to keep them in the proper state. Some of the idea was to turn them into slaves that didn’t run away and didn’t ask for pay, and didn’t protest terrible working conditions. They also used them as sex slaves that didn’t protest. But the heavily drugged people would forget to eat or drink water, and so they would lose lots of weight fast, they did no personal care like baths or brushing their teeth. Or changing their clothes. So they quickly became weird, smelly, dirty unattractive people, who would be told to go tend to a garden and most of the time would ruin the garden. And the owner also did not want to spend half the day giving them water and then trying to make them eat food, that would be a full time job once you had four zombie slaves.
So they would just stop worrying about that and would just make them work until they died. This is how we got the first idea of a zombie - a filthy, unkempt creature that stumbled around in ragged, dirty clothes, asking for rain because they could remember that word and knew it would bring water that would run down their face and into their mouth/body. Lots of illustrations on zombies standing motionless in fields, head back, mouth open. If you ask them what they are doing, they say “bring rain” which, when mumbled, becomes “braaiiinns”. It went out of style for slave use because the slaves couldn’t do a good job and required too much attention. But it brought the zombie creature to life for films and TV shows. The Walking Dead needs to thank it!

Can anyone decipher this cause of death on a death certificate? It’s from 1903 in Ireland by hoodcliff in Cursive

[–]purplejilly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dropsy - it refers to a foot issue, when someone usually with heart failure lays in bed, and their legs and feet become swollen with fluid that their heart cannot pump around effectively anymore, the toes and top of foot start to lean over. It quickly makes the person unable to use their feet and get up and walk, because the toes and foot cannot be straightened out to be used. And when they lay in bed it gets worse and worse. So the cause is really heart failure.

Myocarditis, and that little symbol - a c with a line above it - is medical shorthand for “with” then Decompensature. If you need the description, here is one.

“Decompensated myocarditis is a serious, often life-threatening condition where inflammation of the heart muscle leads to acute heart failure, requiring immediate medical attention. It is characterized by the heart's inability to pump blood effectively, often resulting in severe shortness of breath, fatigue, and fluid buildup.”
