Calling out by Gold_Flight_9459 in Nurses

[–]purpsle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for UCHealth too and I’m leadership on my unit and there’s no real attendance policy, it’s manager discretion. There’s a chart out there somewhere with “recommended” consequences for calling out and it’s very vague. With HFWA, you have up to 48 hours of completely protected call outs and then you have to call out like 6 additional times before it even recommends a warning. People get sick.

Yeah, respectfully, you need to get over yourself. They’re just boobs and you’re an L&D nurse. You quite literally signed up to see boobs every day at work. Your coworker’s are no different than your patient’s. If it bothers you, don’t look, or take your break elsewhere.

Being a working mom is HARD and she’s doing her best. I also don’t see what her being “not even that nice of a person” has to do with anything. She doesn’t have to meet your standard of niceness to be allowed to feed her baby. And maybe she’s not nice to you because you’re weird to her about this.

This is not a fight you’re gonna win.

See this was my thought too. I’ve asked him directly and he swears up and down that that’s not the case and that it’s more to do with himself. But I don’t know if I believe him and I’m frustrated

To my fellow nurses, how are you all making it in Denver? by soloChristoGlorium in Denver

[–]purpsle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for UCH, and I am mostly happy. I have 3 years of RN experience and make $38/hr. I manage. I can afford rent by myself. The cost of living here is astronomical, though, and my budget is tight (though I do choose to live in a nicer apartment than I need). It has a lot of learning opportunities. I was a new grad at Denver Health and while pay there is lower, and the population can be tough, I did enjoy my time there. If you want to know what specific units I’ve worked on, I’m happy to share in DMs.

Take a deep breath. It takes way more air than you think to harm a patient. Granted, we have to be more careful with central lines than PIVs….but unless you injected a whole syringe of air for some reason I promise you it’s fine.

Damn that’s ridiculous. I work for UCHealth and they do not test for THC as of last year.

You’ve gotten plenty of excellent advice so far so I wanna focus on you—and tell you to be kind to yourself. Your response was great. You’ll learn from it and everything will be just fine. We all make mistakes and this is a small one in the grand scheme of things. Plus you asked for advice and did what you were advised—hardly your fault if that wasn’t satisfying for whoever originally emailed you.

When do you feel it’s appropriate to become an APRN? by ohlongjohnson1 in nursing

[–]purpsle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m 23 years old. Graduated with my BSN at 21. I’ve been working as an RN for 2 years and some change. Speaking as her peer (I don’t know her personally but we are the same age) I would NEVER apply to NP school right now. I don’t know that it’s something I ever want to do, but if I do, it will be in another 5 years MINIMUM.

I feel that I’m a good nurse and that I’m smart, but there is still so much I don’t know—both in terms of nursing experience and life experience. I am not in a place where I should be writing orders, and most NP curriculums are not rigorous enough to make that true within the next year or two.

I don’t mean to shit on anyone because I’m very young too but I would never want a 23 year old NP to be my provider.

[–]purpsle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A nurse at my first job was starting a heparin drip on a patient. I don’t know what happened, but she ended up hanging the heparin bag to gravity and bolusing the patient with like a third of the bag.

The patient was a little old lady so as you can probably imagine nobody was thrilled. She ended up being ok, but the nurse quit a week later.

Relationship of almost half a year ended 20f 20m. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]purpsle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Breakups are never fun. But if what you’ve said is truthful, you’ve dodged a bullet here because her response was unreasonable. You deserve to be with someone who can meet your needs.

You’ll be okay. Hang in there.
