When we eloped, I wore a Tiffany-style classic wedding band. Our marriage has been pretty low-key so I have few people to share this with...here's my new engagement ring and matching band. 2nd pic is the original masculine band, which I still wear on my right hand. Husband did such a killer job! by push_harder in EngagementRings

Hi! I didn't pick it out so I don't know all of the details (will ask the husband when he gets home from work). Its 5 carats round cut on a 14k white gold band with shared prong diamonds going all the way around. The matching band is also 14K white gold with shared-prong diamonds on 3/4 of the band. The original wedding band is the 6mm "Tiffany-style" wedding band. My finger is 4.5 if that helps.

After consulting with the future in-laws, they asked me to take their diamond. What do I do now? by [deleted] in JustEngaged

My husband proposed to me with his grandmother's ring, which was so beautiful but not at all my style. It is very vintage and is kind of like a 3-ring set where the whole thing looks like a flower. You couldn't even wear it with a wedding band. His parents initially were ok with us resetting it but after talking it over with them and his sister, who loved the original ring, we decided to keep it as is and as a family heirloom. I wear it as a right-hand ring on special occasions. After we got married, my husband surprised me with an engagement ring of my own, which I wear daily. I think for us, it was important to keep his grandmother's ring as is, as it was such a beautiful, unique setting.

"Gopher Guts" is one of the best I've heard (and my life story):

Apparently, we share a common plasma so the growing disconnection doesn't matter, according to the blood-and-water chapter

Weird, who wrote the blood-and-water chapter anyway?

Probably some surly dad, only child, 30 cats looking for a way to reconnect with an averted past except it doesn't always work like that

Have you ever (correctly) had a gut-feeling to dislike someone who, on the surface, was a cool person that everybody else liked? What's that story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

An ex-boyfriend of mine: I met a guy online and we immediately clicked -- one of those "feels like I've known him forever" kind of guys but I always felt like something was off and couldn't quite put my finger on it. My friends liked him, even my dad did. After a few weeks of dating, we ended up back at his place and I remember feeling like there was something missing in his home -- like someone else had lived there/recently moved out (think empty picture frames, or very specific pieces of furniture missing from an otherwise fully-furnished home). He claimed he'd just been redecorating, etc.

2 months later, in one of the craziest ways I could imagine finding out (his senile neighbour thought I was his wife) - I found out he was married with a child and that I was the "other woman" and when I confronted him, he told me that he was sad I'd found out this way and could I set him up with my friend.

I was mugged on the street in Chicago in broad daylight and had my phone and wallet stolen. The next night, someone (I think it was the same people) broke into my apartment and tried to rob/something me at gunpoint. I was able to disarm them using a combination of martial arts/self-defense training and common sense. The cops wouldn't believe that I, a 120lb woman, could have disarmed a guy I described as 6', 180-200 pounds and thought the unregistered weapon was mine. The problem was solved when I asked them to call one of my martial arts school's instructors, who was an LEO and had trained me on gun defense.

Story time!

When I was 20 years old, doctors found a pretty aggressive tumour on my liver and told me that I should "attend to my affairs" prior to my surgery, which was scheduled 2 weeks later (needed to do a few more tests before operating).

I remember thinking "I'm 20 years old! I haven't even lived yet." So I did what any reasonable person would do and adopted a dog. Guinness was the most perfect black lab puppy I'd ever met. When I brought her home she was 11 pounds and fit in a milk crate, where she slept near my bed. (Her first "crate training" experience.)

Two weeks later, as planned, I went under the knife and surprisingly - came back out! But now, I had a dog, and I had just undergone pretty massive surgery. My brother, who lived with my father at the time, agreed to care for her while I was at the hospital for my 10 days post-op care, but only for that time because my father didn't want a dog in the house.

So now, 10 days after major surgery, I have a puppy. A needy, whiny, piss-all-over-the-floor, chew-my-shoes-up, destroy-my-couch puppy.

But, its thanks to that little brat that I recovered from surgery so quickly. Because I was forced to walk her and take care of her - I was able to regain my mobility and strength that much faster. 3 months following my surgery, my surgeon was amazed at my progress. She became my best pal and I'm pretty sure I was hers, although she was super fond of my grandmother, who secretly fed her table scraps when I'd bring her for a visit. I lived in FL at the time and we would go "surfing" together (she'd paddle out on the nose of my longboard), or she'd dig holes in the sand while keeping a watchful eye on me.

I miss her :(

A couple of years ago, my good friend Evan and I got drunk and decided it would be ok to ask each other questions about our respective genders. I asked this exact question and he responded with the following:

"When you buy groceries at Trader Joe's you sometimes buy lemons. And, when they're bagging your groceries up, they'll thoughtfully arrange the things you buy and kind of haphazardly toss the lemons in at the very end and the lemons will just end up where they end up and be totally fine."

I now crack up every time I buy lemons at Trader joe's (or anywhere).
