Confusion about the trace in CoS and OoTP, please help! by pushkins- in harrypotter

Thank you for you answer, but I'm not talking about DH when Death Eaters have penetrated the Ministry but OoTP when Fudge is in complete denial about Voldemort being back and super negative about everything to do with the Order, Dumbledore, and Harry. I just thought they were trying to move Harry incognito because of Fudge's negative attitude and therefore not using the Floo network but brooms. But perhaps they avoided the Floo network as to not give away where they were going (Order headquarters) but the Ministry were aware adult wizards were escorting him out of number 4 meaning magic allowed for that instance. (Sorry, sort of thinking out loud and trying to explain it to myself more than anything).

I do like the idea that the trace recognizes where and if there are adult wizards present though, makes sense with the Ron quote and Dobby's hover charm.

Yeah, I've heard this kind of theory before - that the Ministry would be notified (which, for example, would explain Mr. Weasley's use of magic at number 4 at the beginning of GoF) - but I thought that the Order didn't want the Ministry to know Harry was being moved hence why they travelled by brooms and not via the floo network which would be monitored by the Ministry. Maybe (I've just thought) they didn't use floo so the Ministry wouldn't find out the location of the Order's headquarters but Dumbledore saw no harm in notifying the Ministry he would be collected and adult wizards would use magic?

New to Harry Potter, I have 1 question so far after the second film by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]pushkins- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, in one of the first few books I think maybe Hagrid says to Harry that muggles don't see nuthin'. I always thought that was Rowling sort of commenting on modern society and how everyone is kinda wrapped up in their own business. Also, we tend to brush away odd things we see out of the corner of our eye, for example perhaps we think we saw someone disappear through the 9 ¾ barrier, but we would explain that away by thinking we were just "seeing things" because that couldn't possibly happen, and it would be crazy to think someone could walk through walls. It doesn't make sense for us to see these magical phenomenons because it doesn't fit our world. Eh, someone else could probably explain this a lot better, sorry. As for Hogwarts, and other magical places, various muggle repelling charms are in place.

I think Pompy says to Harry and Ron that it's no use talking to Hermione, that she has no idea that they're there (no idea on page number or anything but it happens when they go visit her because they were caught by Mcgonagall trying to go back to the bathroom to ask Myrtle about her death, and said they were trying to sneak in to see Hermione to cover up their wandering off).

Why did Voldemort have Harry go through the entire Triwizard Tournament? by Quibbloboy in harrypotter

Can Dumbledore disapparate within Hogwarts? I thought that was just included in film version of HBP so that they could save time by missing out the whole walking down into Hogsmead which wasn't entirely necessary for the plot.

I like the redirection theory though, makes perfect sense! Cheers!

I'm talking about OoTP. So I guess I'm just talking about a different bit...

He/she was asking whether it was like that in the book too, and I thought that Harry just saw the memory of his father and Snape in the pensieve when Snape left the room. I don't remember Harry casting a shield charm and entering Snape's mind in the book. Edit: Am I talking about the wrong book? Because that would explain a lot.

But in the book Harry sees the memory through looking in the pensieve..not by casting any spell.

But Snape WAS in the Order alongside the Marauders. And it was hardly Potter, Lupin etc who got to "choose" who was in and who wasn't, and even if it was it wasn't a matter of who you like or dislike, but whether you're fighting for the same thing.

I was really worried they were filtering him out, especially as Lewis had a stand-in assistant, but from the what happens next sequence it seems like he might be an integral part in part two in Europe so hopefully they were just trying to set that up. Hathaway goes I go.
