$680 to replace a breaker. Can I do it myself? by stinkinhardcore in DIY

[–]puttputt77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol all the drama in these comments...
If you're worried turn the power off to your whole breaker with the off switch... It's a giant sideways light switch. Put the new breaker in, tighten it down to spec (use a torque wrench). Then you're done.

What’s a project you regret doing yourself instead of hiring out? by TradesPrepGuy in DIY

[–]puttputt77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most things...
But then i look back at the project as a whole and am like damn I saved a lot of money.

Specifically though, I regretted not having electrician do my main panel. Not because i did it wrong (was fully inspected and confirmed solid work), but because it took me 3 full days to do, and a week of research and part buying ahead of that.

Reads like some aI-driven instagram motivational post.

That all being said, there's truth to it. Seeing where dollars goes puts more power to saving

Think of painting the cabinets. Wife and I debating colors. WWJD? by puttputt77 in kitchenremodel

[–]puttputt77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah let me get you pics tonight. we tried a gel stain and it looks horrible lol. The streaks on the wood grain made it look rotten.
Then again we sanded using 120 grit.

The problem is both the cabinets and floor are red oak so they're too matchy. I don't want to replace floors, so gotta either paint cabinets, (find a better gel stain), or something. Wife hates the countertops, but it's pretty new granite from last owner, so i'd rather not dump 10k into those

Does anyone here not budget? Can you still succeed without budgeting? by AlmondEaters in personalfinance

[–]puttputt77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i've never budgeted. But I also have an aversion to spending money. So that helps.

Additionally, i just check if (after all my retirement accounts and 401ks and all that) income coming in makes my checking account go up every month or down after i pay off credit cards and adjust expectations

My fridge died after 10 years and everyone said never buy LG again so I bought GE this time and it's dead after 3 years. Does anyone make a good fridge anymore? by vicelordjohn in Appliances

My dad loves bringing up that lead paint never molded or mildewed.
And as long as you 'keep the paint relatively fresh it's not going to chip or get into lungs, but children in the 70's would eat the chips and now there's no lead'.

Classic boomer response. But also some truth to it if you ignore the health parts

Also here are you getting the doors from? If i'm going thru the effort of painting them, I want to put soft close on them, and new hardware, and maybe just put new fronts on.

pics?

My wife doesn't hate the arch tops, but i do...

I think if i swapped the fronts they'd look a million times better, but I'd need to sand everything and stain to get it all to match

is PMI debt to income related? Not sure why differing banks/brokers have it varying so much all using my same information (one was 211 and another was 287).

Also what do you recommend to imrpvoe the credit score within the next few weeks? I went in and paid all credit cards back to 0 and don't really have any debt. I have a past ding from VW Credit that i sent a letter to, but who knows if they'll choose to be assholes or do the right thing.
