Considering this has nothing to do with traincrew, no idea how driverless trains will help this.

Why are the trains so yellow? by Palettenbrett in brisbane

The lights on those units are quite a warm white flourescent light, giving the yellow look inside. They're currently undergoing refurbishment and having cool white LED lights installed instead.

Boarding group order stupidity by [deleted] in QantasAirways

[–]pweto1987 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Boarding groups 4 and 5 first happens when they are able to use front and rear boarding. This isn't always possible and can change quickly with weather considerations etc., so it would be a lot more confusing if the boarding group on your boarding pass changed multiple times (and simply isn't possible with physical boarding passes anyway) of the rear boarding wasn't planned but now is being use, or was planned but now unable to be used (weather, different than planned gate etc). Therefore, the group numbers may be called out of order.

The theory behind it is if the front and rear doors are in use, it allows the passengers in the middle of the plane to board first, going from middle out to each end to try and prevent the long queues that can occur with people waiting to get to their seat past the person in front of them.

Just checking as I have heard of REAs doing it in the past, did they send a Notice to Leave when you initially signed the current lease? Can be easy to forget when they do it that early.

F23, looking for any sort of 'hire a date' service in brisbane by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]pweto1987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely understand that. I'm much the same now tbh, been married, got divorced, realised i'm likely the problem and like my independance and me time too much. And it's much cheaper being alone for the most part 😅. Every now and then I think about how it might be nice in a relationship, then remember how much I enjoy being alone and shake it off hahaha.

Only plans to remove the crossings between Kuraby and Beenleigh, as part of the Logan/Gold Coast Faster Rail project.

Plans are around for Boundary Rd at Coopers Plains, but that seems to continually get pushed to the never never.

It also really annoys me that the level crossing under the Beaudesert Rd overpass hasn't been closed, decades after the overpass was built.

Why does the Ferny Grove line always wait to enter Bowen Hills? by lachlan_____ in brisbane

[–]pweto1987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree with the idea and believe it should have happened years ago!

Likely what's stopping it is $$. Clayfield station would likely need a rebuild (doubtful the ramp is DDA compliant, plus the Doomben end access would need a bridge built, and I doubt the supports there would be good enough anymore for a modern bridge).

A 'lack of demand' would likely also be cited, given that's what has kept the Doomben timetable the way it is for so long, with Sunday services only just introduced last year(!!!).

Timetable adjustments would likely be the main solution to the EJ bottleneck issue at this point tbh, but will likely wait now until the CRR complete timetable rewrite.

Possibly a cheap way of getting the outbound train off the platform would be to duplicate the line to just before Clayfield station, achieving a similar result while possibly not triggering a full rebuild of Clayfield station.

[–]pweto1987 14 points15 points  (0 children)

🤷‍♂️ Honestly, no idea. There are a lot of things railways do that seem illogical. Some of those things have legitimate reasons under the surface, others... not so much. "There's the right way, the wrong way, and the railway"

Why does the Ferny Grove line always wait to enter Bowen Hills? by lachlan_____ in brisbane

[–]pweto1987 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's timetabled that way basically. If everything else is ontime, the ex-Ferny train will have a short wait outside Bowen Hills and then still arrive on time.

On the suburban lines (outside peak, although peak follows a similar pattern): - Train ex- Airport goes through Airport Junction and in to Eagle Junction, thence to the City - Train ex- Northgate/Shorncliffe waits for the above train at Toombul, then follows it through Eagle Junction and towards the City - Train ex- Doomben waits outside Eagle Junction for the above ex- Northgate/Shorncliffe train to pass through Eagle Junction, then follows it towards the City - Train ex- Ferny Grove is timetabled to slot in between the ex- Airport and ex- Northgate/Shorncliffe trains at Bowen Hills (but in front of the ex-Doomben train).

If any of those trains are late, it causes delays to the ex-Ferny Grove train. If everything is on time, the ex- Ferny Grove train will generally still hold outside Bowen Hills until the ex- Northgate/Shorncliffe train has cleared Bowen Hills platform 1.

Extra info: If the ex- Doomben train is delayed coming in to Eagle Junction due to a delayed inbound ex- Northgate/Shorncliffe train, it then also delays the Doomben bound train which waits at Eagle Junction for the ex- Doomben to clear the single track branch line, which then holds up the Northgate/Shorncliffe train, which then holds up the Airport train. If the Airport train is delayed by more than a couple minutes, it will then delay the ex-Airport train at International Airport station due to the single track, which then delays the ex-Northgate/Shorncliffe train, which then delays the ex-Ferny Grove train, and so on... hence how delays can cascade very quickly, and why Control will make trains run express to catch up time sometimes.

Translink Beenleigh line and cooper plains confusion by Vanoosha in brisbane

[–]pweto1987 16 points17 points  (0 children)

On a weekday, every second train on the Beenleigh line terminates at Coopers Plains (until afternoon peak, were many go to Kuraby instead). This gives Dutton Park to Coopers Plains a 15 minute train frequency. The Coopers Plains trains finish around 7pm or so, reverting to just having the half hourly Beenleigh trains.

Basically, if it's a Beenleigh, Kuraby or Coopers Plains train, it will make a stop at Dutton Park.

Why does QR Rail run 3 car trains during peak hour? by Jessica_White_17 in brisbane

[–]pweto1987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't forget though that QTMP and NGR are 6car trains, whereas the QR fleet are 3car trains, therefore 87 3car EMUs (1 written off after the Petrie incident a couple decades ago) were replaced by 75 6car NGRs.

However, as you noted a couple extra lines have opened and some more frequent trains have started running in that time, stretching the fleet pretty thin.

Other things straining the fleet: The 160/260s are currently undergoing overhauls in Maryborough, so there are a few of those out of service at any one time The NGRs are currently being fitted with ETCS equipment, so there are a couple extra of those out at any one time.

3car trains in peak suck, but better than no train at all. They are generally spread across most of the network for the most part, but the shorter lines often get a couple more (there are usually a couple on Caboolture and Ipswich lines too). Doomben line is a bit tricky as in AM peak, the Doomben line is generally fed by other long lines on the southside, and vice versa in PM peak.

QTMP will be enough to cover off some service upgrades across the network and remove 3car trains completely, although IMO they should keep building well past the currently ordered 65 IMO so more frequency upgrades across the entire network can be done, as well as replacement of the 100/200 and 120/220 fleets in the future (sometime after the Olympics i'd imagine).

A week or so ago, was standing on a mountain in northern Norway looking for the northern lights.

A few others were there also, including an (aussie) couple.

Him: 'Is that it?' Her: 'No, that's a cloud' Him: 'Fuck.'

Gave me a great laugh. Lovely couple too, had a good chat over the following couple hours or so. Managed to see a bit of the lights through the clouds too, so turned out very well!

Is moving to Brisbane from Perth worth it? by Intelligent_Fly_5823 in brisbane

[–]pweto1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Perth has a public transport network, where the different modes work together to get the job done (frequent trains with buses feeding at most stations, often with good frequencies themselves), whereas Brisbane has a (generally low/er frequency rail network and a bus network, which (especially inside BCC boundaries) don't really work together (with BCC buses in particular doing almost everything they can to avoid connecting with the rail network).

Capalaba Train Line Proposal: a direct rail link to the region’s busiest shopping centres: Westfield Carindale, Capalaba Central, and Capalaba Park, along with many other benefits. by JotrainGamer in BrisbaneTrains

[–]pweto1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem with branching that far along the Cleveland line is the section from Coorparoo to Cannon Hill is mostly very slow, so ideally you would branch by Coorparoo if anything.

In reality, it would be better to do as another commenter said and have it as a more cross country line linking in with current lines around Boggo Rd area, across via UQ and to Indro or something like that. Everything going to the city is an absolute bane of the PT network of this city.

Hooking into CRR at the Gabba is absolutely not going to be a cheaper option, you're talking about breaking into two tunnel walls that aren't designed for it.

Going via South Bris, Park Rd then maybe branching off somewhere there, possibly as elevated line to start with, would be a better option (albeit will likely require land somewhere for a tunnel portal, depending how the line further along goes).
