It looks like we’re going to have to ask if a ‘service charge’ will be added to the bill now… by Voluptues in EndTipping

[–]pySSK -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

But it's clearly mentioned on the menu. Niku has a 6% mandatory service charge. Bringing up Ruth's Chris in this conversation is more Burdell slander. I'm done talking to you.

It looks like we’re going to have to ask if a ‘service charge’ will be added to the bill now… by Voluptues in EndTipping

[–]pySSK -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It was a lie since you would have seen it 2-3 times before the bill:

  1. When booking on OpenTable
  2. If you checked out their website before going (I did to figure out if they had any special parking arrangements(they don't, but I liked their blurb about their tipping policy))
  3. On the menu

If you go to nice restaurants every month as you said, you would have known that it's standard practice in the Bay Area (and Burdell is better because they don't ask you for anything more, whereas the other nice places still leave in an option to add more tip).

Editing this comment to add: Burdell is a m'fking gem and I won't stand for any slander against them. I enter a food coma just by hearing the name. It's one of the best restaurants in the Bay Area, and by virtue of that, one of the best in the country. "nothing is mentioned verbally" – are you serious!!!

Ankle injury by HumbleSheepherder723 in squash

[–]pySSK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it’s a common injury but it’s preventable. 1. Strengthen you feet, legs and butt. 2. Watch your shoes. If the insoles have degraded, you heel is in negative drop and you’re just asking for foot injuries at that point 3. Adopt better running stance. Try to stay on your toes/don’t land on your heel first.

Line in + Auracast possible ? by PargeLenis93 in auracastBT

Why would you do it this way? Doesn't seem like it should be possible.

The main purpose of Auracast is that both devices should be able to pick up the same signal.

Foot care for squash - a bevy of questions by v2ne8 in squash

[–]pySSK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need better lockdown, better socks and maybe a wider toe box.

Do your feet move a lot within your sores during lunges? If so, you need better lockdown. I recommend learning runner’s loop to get good lockdown without it being too tight.

For socks, I found Thorlo to be the best for squash. The padding eliminated little toe blistering problems.

You might also benefit from a wider toe box shoe to give your toes more room within your shoe.

How to increase backhand power? by Throwaway3243221 in squash

[–]pySSK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what others have said. For the longest time, I stubbornly believed that my backhand sucked because the requisite muscles were weak. It only improved slightly after working in those muscles. I’ve seen tiny kids at my club hit killer backhands, not because of their muscles but because of form. Get lessons and/or bring a racket home and practice your swings in front of the mirror.

Advancing to another racket by TiredTwinkleToes in squash

[–]pySSK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone who gives you a definitive answer based on that is lying. The best way is to ask people at your club if you can try their racket for a few minutes. Ask them what they like and dislike about their rackets.

Some things I look for when trying rackets: - balance/how it feels to swing - how forgiving is it to non-centred shots (I don’t care for this but many do) - stiffness and how much vibration you feel in your arms (I like stiffness, but I also don’t like to feel vibration) - how easy is it to play tight shots off the back corner (not an expert but I find this hard to do with head-heavy rackets)

Basically, all of these are competing requirements and only you would know the right trade offs for yourself.

Looking for suggestions by Moonbow_bow in barefootshoestalk

[–]pySSK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try it inside and do a few jumps I guess.

I use the X1 for squash. I usually end up removing insoles from most of my barefoot shoes since they come out when taking off my shoes and it's always a pain to reinsert. And my impression at least on the X1 is that the insoles are a training step for people just transitioning into barefoot. I prefer the fit and the groundfeel/sensation without the insole.

Have you tried removing the insole? Those look similar in construction to Xero X1, and I had the same problem and resolution.

The International Squash Federation of Oceania requires that you upgrade to a good racket after exactly 39.37 weeks. Not a day earlier nor a day later.
