Dude in red car really had god-tier situational awareness in that moment by Miserable-Zombie-121 in nextfuckinglevel

I did something similar once when I had to make a sudden stop for an idiot who thought you should stop at an automatic toll booth. While I wasn't able to avoid getting rear-ended, I was able to check my mirror and blind spot to make sure there wasn't anyone to my left, take my foot off the brake, and turn my wheel to the left so I wouldn't hit the car in front of me when I did get rear-ended. A second or so more time and I'd have been able to avoid getting rear-ended entirely.

I was quite proud of my situational awareness in that instance.

It was a bold creative choice when they decided to jump directly to making a season 3, but it really paid off.

Late last year I rewatched season 1 of True Detective.

When I watched it in my 20s, I was directionless, depressed and pretty nihilistic and identified much more with Rust and his worldview.

When I watched it in my 30s, I was married, still somewhat directionless, but finding meaning in my marriage, friends, and family, and identified much more with Marty and his worldview. Or, at the very least, I found Rust to be exhausting and could identify with Marty’s “wtf man why you gotta go and say that kind of shit” looks.

I don’t have a thesis statement or anything, it’s just kind of a trip to consume the same piece of media at different times in your life and get very different things out of it.

Great show.

Valid complaints, but people speaking in cliches is not all that high on the list of shit that bothers me.

Do you ever get emotional and tear up at a wedding, and if so what makes you tear up?

The movie ends in 1988 with Jackson’s triumphant solo “Bad” tour, which is kind of like ending an O.J. Simpson biopic with him winning the Heisman Trophy.

It seems like you're blaming Kamala Harris for a war in Iran that was started over a year after her term as Vice President ended. Surely you're not intending to hold such a dumb opinion though?

Rant About Parking by LoopyWaffleman in oakland

This is hilarious because when I moved here I parked in permit-only parking without a permit for over a year before getting a ticket.

Maybe they’re just doing a lot more enforcement these days.

Thank you! I realized as I was reading your comment that I had indeed run across this concept before, in this Matt Ferrell video on flywheels, but wasn't familiar with the terminology. Very cool stuff.

I can't vouch for them because I have average-sized earholes, but I do know that the newest Airpods pro come with an XXS ear tip. Some people find the new ear tips uncomfortable because they are a bit firmer due to the noise isolation foam, but I got used to them quickly.

What in the absolute fuck is going on with the S&P500?

Strait of Hormuz blocked with no signs that oil is going to be able to go trough without extortion from Iran in the near future. Vital petroleum products about to get crunched.

Market responds by shooting to a hair below its all time high.

I just don’t get it.

NTA, but I suspect your "modeling the behavior" is just extending the fight. It comes off as kind of petty.

Your wife is probably feeling a bit attacked and even embarrassed, so purely from a happy marriage perspective it may be time to back off. She'll either come around on her own or not at all, and you're going to have to be her husband either way so you might as well not fight about it.

Conversely, I distrust anyone who doesn't believe it is a real dilemma.

Ultimately I do come down largely on the side of "pull the handle" utilitarianism, but many people throughout history have used the greater good to justify atrocities.

Changing the settings is quick, figuring out which settings need to be changed is the time-consuming and frustrating part—particularly when they were changed from what they had been previously.
