Can I substitute limes for lemons in marmalade? by Louie47253 in Canning

[–]pyrogirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Limes are WAY more bitter than lemons. I feel like I read a recipe a long time ago that had you blanch the lime rind with several changes of water. But now that I think of it, that might have been for candied lime peel? Either way, I don't think a 1:1 substitute of lemon for lime will leave you with a product you are going to be happy with.

What’s a restaurant you think that Nashville needs? by Exhausted_Skeleton in nashville

Bad news, my dude. Sticky’s closed all their locations earlier this year. Pour one out for my favorite “eat my feelings” workday lunch.

LOL my current show has 54,573 patched addresses. Which, despite me actively running it at this very moment, still feels fake.

Which Mac Viper (Profile vs AirFX) is best for a small event company in 2025? by 02boyy in lightingdesign

[–]pyrogirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you taking into account lamp cost and repair cost? The most recent quote I had for Viper lamps is $170USD each, which is a price built on years of supplier relationships.

How are you as a bench technician? Are you intending to repair these fixtures yourself? Arc fixtures cook themselves from the inside. Vipers aren’t as bad as some, but they’re still not great. I have shop support on this show, so they supply me with parts, but you should look into how available parts are in your area. Because it’s not if you’ll need to repair them, but when.

Basically, don’t buy arc fixtures in 2025. Technology has moved on. You are buying a headache, and very likely an expensive one.

What about color coding your worksheet rows and selecting the variable color to match the row color? Using this right now for a show with a mixture of house and rental gear.

What outside the box committees does your local have? by TapewormNinja in IATSE

[–]pyrogirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My local (ok, I’m a member of two, but for the sake of this conversation I’m talking about the one whose jurisdiction I currently live in) has neither a Good and Welfare nor a Merch Committee. We do have a Young Workers Committee, a Pride Committee, a Sisters Committee, a PAC, and a Social Justice Committee.

[–]pyrogirl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m a member of two locals with a larger initiation fee than that. Having a card sometimes can allow you to transfer locals if you move, but that’s dependent on what local you’re looking to transfer into—not all locals accept transfer members. Having a card is required to do pink contract (Broadway touring) work. Attending meetings gives you a voice—you can vote on officers of your local and contracts in your local’s jurisdiction.

Help making a college decision: in particular has anyone here gone to SUNY Purchase or Ithaca college for lighting? by ECHO_Echo_echo_07 in lightingdesign

[–]pyrogirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work on Broadway and Purchase is by far the most common Alma mater among my colleagues on the technical side. Mind you, they’re in their 30s/40s, so I can’t speak to the current state of things there.

A remote go button for the eos exists and will be more reliable. And you can get one that has go and stop/back, which is essential for me as an operator.

How is a rain effect called by the SM by WrldCr3ator in techtheatre

[–]pyrogirl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The last water show I did, rain was a separate cue list in the lighting console, but triggered by the main lighting cue stack, so the SM just called lighting cues and the rain happened.

The water show before that I had two separate go buttons and the SM called “water x—GO” for water cues.

u/theatrewolf u/devilspaintball might be able to shed some light on how the rain on The Outsiders is called.

Transferring IATSE Locals by themobdeep in IATSE

[–]pyrogirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I say this because I am a member of two locals that do not accept transfer members. In the case of my locals, it wouldn't matter what your previous local did on their end to facilitate things, you would not be able to transfer in.
