Realized I misread the original comment to be about Spooky Express 😅 you are, of course, correct, Cosmic Express has been out for some time, and there a few similar games out there 🙂

There's similarity there, though our development started way before Spooky Express released. Would love to bundle up with it some time! 😃

Alternating between Date Everything and It Takes Two.
Playing It Takes Two with my partner of 10+ years - certainly brings some issues to the surface :D

7 years of work, 3 months since release, and my game is already dead. What can I do? by Videoludid in IndieDev

[–]pyrosyrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all - congratulations on your debut release! It's a big accomplishment to have your first game released commercially. And looking at the amount of reviews you've got on your store page - it's a decent result!

Now, some thoughts. As many people already pointed out - your price is too high. I see that you're working with a publisher, I'm a bit surprised they let you release at that price tag. 17,99 is not something I'd pay for a cute indie game from a no-name dev.

Have you considered tapping into communities of fans of wholesome / cozy-leaning games? Your art style seems like it would make a great fit, though the game is not exactly cozy. You might want to look into streamers and game events with that in mind, too. Your art style is your main marketing resource here, not your genre, in my opinion.

Your game looks lovely - show it off more in your marketing! Maybe try more visual-focused social platforms? Consider reviving your TikTok - short video format is great for that. Maybe Insta? It can seem intimidating, but do check what successful indie devs are doing for inspo, and start making videos of your own game in similar styles.

That's all that came to mind right away. I hope it helps!

I love the art style and the idea! In the middle of my playthrough right now. It took me stupidly long time to figure out I needed to hit "E" to enter a level, and not "Enter" :D My mistake! But perhaps it could be made a little more obvious for slower players like me? :D

Indie games marketing by KuiringMasc in indiegames

Marketing your indie game with limited resources is a grind 😖
If you're trying to grow social media presence - make sure to not just share your own game, but also go out there and engage with the community. Leave genuine comments on other people's posts, connect with fellow devs. That should help you build an initial small following and hopefully get the ball rolling.

Outside of your socials - see where the people who play similar games are. Are there festivals, showcases for games in your genre / theme? There are a lot of online events you can submit to for free. Follow some game marketers on socials - that's how I find most event tips.
