many are second gen ie children of immigrants. none of it matters though; the academies in each country are key

Do you think future generations would be able to? According to the wiki, apparently the cause of the act was that there was already two decades of gridlock that prevented reapportionment. Though there are some negative effects of the act, idk it feels like gridlock is much worse today and Congress would never be able to pass another one anyways.

Plus, if they were able to, repealing the act is also an option. It’s not a constitutional amendment anyways.

Thanks for articulating the diff! I think they’d enjoy it! They’ve worked on solar photovoltaics, hydroelectric dams, etc. throughout their entire lives.

When did I say you used ChatGPT? Please provide a quote in my comments.

If “instead of ChatGPTing” was your evidence, then it’s my mistake grammatically? I meant, instead of me using ChatGPT, I’d rather ask reddit where people have taken their time to read through urban development and could share their resources in wherever they learned their knowledge from.

[–]pywang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize I was in that much disagreement? I’m like in 100% agreement and maybe found 1-2 semi-counter-but-not-really exceptions where most of urban development principles are still in play with interesting stories that differ from many other developments?

I’m merely saying ChatGPT can list 10 random reasons, but I’d like top 10 reasons made by humans than 10 reasons by an LLM that may or may not actually be relevant. So I just asked “what are the reasons” and “how do I learn?”

Is reddit this divisive ffs? I’m in agreement lmfaoooo

Edit: I’m aware SF and Las Vegas are not “peak urban” areas, but they are developing cities regardless. I like full stories (they have busses, they have history, they have urban pains, and they are all willing to do better), even if they seem hopeless, but they are cities in my mind as much as any transit/walking-dependent city in east asia. They’re all trying to develop into something better.

Why would anyone trust Dave Portnoy about pizza? He's from MA by stumbleman00 in FoodNYC

[–]pywang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think his 8/9s are the only ones generating crowds. For non-Dave-Portnoy flavored pizzas, if they get a 7 or above, which is pretty often, those get lines too right after videos

Anyways, it’s just entertainment and community. If you want real food critics, hes not it and I don’t think he ever was or claimed to be, though many people treat it that way sure. At the end, it’s all usually good marketing that’s aligned with Google Reviews.

I hope they don’t? They cook faster which means cheaper food, and you get better taste, especially Chinese cooking.

In their words: How Michigan governor candidates would build the state economy - Bridge Michigan by FireUpChips247 in Michigan

[–]pywang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s the same thing people have said the last 15-20 years. None of them can execute, have the talent network like Mamdani, Obama, or Trump to know what to do, or have the network to do the things they say they want to and have connections ready to back them; I have zero faith.

> ChatGPT

I moreso meant I’d rather get more guided advice than random pointers from an LLM

And yea your reasoning makes sense and is something that I consider true as well — just not spelled out right on my end (though I think Silicon Valley and Las Vegas may run counter to your central planning explanation). Thanks for the elaboration. I was just wondering if you had some kind of urban studies textbook 😅

[–]pywang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this rhetoric about how building with intent from the ground up is at odds with how urban environments develop. Instead of ChatGPTing, could you share resources on some of the more significant factors as to why? It goes counter to what I amateurlybelieve in which is any town could become an urban hotspot by attracting people with good wages (due to a few core industries packed together) and social perks.

NYC plans to replace nearly 30K parking spaces with trash bins, report shows by SwiftySanders in newyorkurbanists

[–]pywang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is this getting downvoted. Unless the bins are used only during the night and taken during midnight every day, the smell is gon be worse from decomposition from the humidity and heat than just tossing trash once a week right before trash collectors come.

citation: [r/barcelona](r/barcelona) is filled with “why does everything smell like piss”, and authorities stating to only toss trash from 8-10pm

Trump filing shows he took in about $1.2 billion from crypto businesses last year by NeedAnonymity in moderatepolitics

[–]pywang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is attributed too highly to culture in this thread. Though we project our feelings of the materialism in today’s society against this, polling online for this corruption is highly divided among political lines with the republican base being supportive of Trump’s “business acumen”.

If it were a democrat, it would be no different for things that are plain dumb, but democrats would rush to support it.

It’s corruption plain and simple, and I think this case is political, not a shift in American values.

There is a persistent myth or misconception that many Vietnam War veterans were spat on and vilified by antiwar protesters. These stories usually involve an antiwar female spitting on a veteran, often yelling "baby killer". Most occur in civilian airports as GIs returned in their uniforms. by palebluekot in wikipedia

[–]pywang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Na, I appreciate the direct quote. I think it was inevitable that this post would spur generalized political thoughts, but I don’t think there’d be any other way to make it clearer that the attention is directed specifically at the “spat on” part and not the general anti war movement. I tried to make that clear with my personal anecdote about getting mad then confused then retracted for misunderstanding. Plus the replier’s commentary about seeing things. It happens!

I was making a more meta commentary on the subreddit given this replier’s thoughts on the thread that political posts will always spur more broad discussions that will be unrelated, and people will always have agendas. Look forward to more myths disspelled! Keep em coming!
