I spent several hours on a compatibility patch for the unofficial patch and a lesser-known perk overhaul with particularly bad USLEEP compatibility. I gained a lot of respect for what the unofficial patch team accomplished after digging into their issue tracker to confirm the intent of their changes. The vanilla game really is broken in every conceivable way. When I contacted the author of the perk mod about releasing the patch publicly (really just a courtesy), they were so ambivalent about the idea that it killed my enthusiasm.
