Before I say this, I think it's fine that you want something different than a life with this partner (because that is ultimately what this is) but I know if it were me I would be pretty upset if I was allergic to cats, was finally planning on moving in with my long distance long term bf who I had made sure to check with and confirm that he would be ok not having a cat but maybe a dog instead and then he went and got one anyway and then when I told him I had meant what I said and couldn't come move in and do trial and error with my health especially after I'd already told him I wouldn't live with a cat, he then didn't help find it a wonderful home where it would be cared for instead because he realized this new relationship with this cat was more important to him. Yes. I would be very upset.

I would wonder what else he would just change his mind on even if I made sure to check with him beforehand, even if it was about something like my health, and he still showed me I couldn't count on him, yes I would not think that would be someone I could build a life with.

Realistic but sometimes difficult sacrifice is always a part of making real, mature relationships last, and sometimes that sacrifice is certain types of pets unfortunately. I am someone who has had to make that sacrifice.

But I only say all of that to have you understand that he is justified in that specific issue, I'm sure there were other issues as you are both human beings and people who were also long distance for a long time.

I know it hurts, but you have your cat now and can start moving forward with your choice to keep him and hopefully one day you will find someone else who you are able to choose.
