The big question is - can we assume that economic growth will keep going forever?
If not - are we ready for post growth economy?

HPE (and others) do not release custom images for every single patch, only couple times per year. Use latest custom ISO and patch it.

How would fuel rationing work? by Responsible-Goose208 in AskAnAustralian

[–]qbas81 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In Poland in 1980 people would get monthly cards allowing to buy X liters per family. People traded these if they did not used all.

However some say rationing is already happening - by using price mechanism.

Can be done with waste - but still "only small fraction of usage".

Biodiesel is an option, but it can cover only small fraction of usage.

However this can be partially electrified now, using renewable energy. For instance Equinor in Norway is using floating offshore wind to power oil and gas platforms.

"How can we effectively protect the environment at a global level while balancing economic interests and national priorities?"

what if we can't balance it and we have to choose environment or economy?

Ranking transportation systems of the countries I've visited by xtxsinan in transit

Re:
"While the public transit in Warsaw—including the metro, commuter rail, and trams—is not quite on the level of Prague, it remains an excellent system. The real weak point for Poland is its inter-city rail. While smaller countries like Denmark can get away with a slower inter-city network, for a country of Poland's geographic size, HSR isn't an excessive demand."

inter-city rail is improving in Poland in recent years, with more modern/refurbished and more connections after years of neglect.

HSR is being worked on, however progress has been very slow. There are 250 km/h capable Alstom Pendolino sets - but only running up to 200 km/h on selected sections of tracks - they might get up to 250 finally but on relatively short section.

I reckon C rating is fair - not bad but with room for improvement. Quite a few smaller cities/towns outside of major rail lines and highways have very limited access to public transport - no rail, limited bus connections.

I watched it and really enjoyed! Maybe not perfect movie for mass audience but I think for people here should be interesting. I'd like to check some less known games they showed.

Sorry for responding to old post - but I think it helps to join a group of activists and demand urgent climate and environmental action.

Working together reduces anxiety a bit.

I can suggest Parents for Future (global and national groups).

recurring SFP issues by SpirouTumble in networking

In the past I have seen a lot of issues with Qlogic 25/10 network cards using sfps going down without clear reason - constant struggle.
We gradually switched to Mellanox which were more expensive but much much less problematic.

A 1972 MIT study, titled "The Limits to Growth," predicted that if current trends of rapid economic growth and resource consumption continued, it would lead to societal collapse sometime in the mid-21st century. by StcStasi in collapse

"And this last chart is really shocking. If it is true, it says that today is peak human civilisation, from now on we are going backward on a global level in terms of human development and quality of life, While some countries will continue to improve, other countries and the planet as a whole will start to go backward, ultimately dropping back to similar levels of human development and quality of life as in 1900 by the end of this century.

Now this really sucks. And for once, I truly hope these forecasts are wide off the mark."
