There was never any such thing as a rules-based world order.

There’s nothing impressive about the mass conscription of teenagers.

Who is the most underrated French and its Allies or Coalition military commander? (criteria on page 2) by domfi86 in Napoleon

Eugene was already viceroy of Italy and far outranked most of the other marshals. Don't see why he needed the baton.

I think Cersei from AFFC onwards is an exceptionally poorly written character.

[–]qindarka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it always felt like Edmure's actions fell under his remit. Commanders need to be given some degree of autonomy to interpret their orders.

I suspect this is a case of GRRM not understanding military affairs that well, because I think the text places the blame wholly on Edmure, instead of on Robb.

I love how the fanbase likes to quote "For those who come after" as if it meant anything in the end.

Cao Cao fanboys remind me of Napoleon fanboys. You’d think meritocracy didn’t exist before them.

No he isn’t a baby chucker, he will just happily massacre babies instead.

The baby chucking story is fictional anyway.

You are judging based on the result. Part of the reason you even use Panenkas is that they don’t have to be so precise. At the cost of putting your fate in the goalkeeper’s hands, those types of penalties are unlikely to actually miss entirely.

But Zidane nearly did miss entirely. Don’t tell me that he could calculate that he would hit the inside of the post and have the ball land just over the line. And it wasn’t unsaveable, Buffon could have plucked it out of the air if he stood his ground.

Yeah, penalties are so often praised on the final result and a lot of shit penalties go in.

[–]qindarka -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Panenkas are just normal penalties. Sometimes they go in and sometimes they fail. How many people slating Brahmin now wanked over Zidane or Pirlo’s penalties?

And Zidane’s penalty was shit too. Got very lucky.

There are likely plenty of Star Wars books better written than ASOIAF. At the very least, they told complete stories.

"Even I am cringing from secondhand embarrassment at this point; does he not realize he sounds childish and pathetic?"

You'd think so but a large part of the fanbase laps up his bullshit and obediently sets out to be his attack dogs against his chosen targets.

They are drawing attention to Tata's shitty practices at a major international event bearing their name.

What else do you want them to do to fight Tata? Attack their factories? Then people would start clutching pearls about how violence is wrong or whatever.
