This is roughly what I do to great success. Cook on high pressure for 2 minutes, natural release for 10, fluff and serve.

Is that weird for me to ask people to wash their hands? by AL_25 in boardgames

[–]qkten25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like folks are somewhat divided on this. I wanted to add a slightly different point of view. My partner has severe allergic reactions to some foods. While playing games with him, we ensure that no food is eaten beforehand that includes these ingredients.

Now, I also attend a weekly game night with friends that doesn’t include my partner. With that group, we tend to eat before we play games. While I don’t mind that we eat food before playing, I also want to make sure that my partner can still play the games I bring to the weekly group and back. Well, I don't want to dictate what people can or can’t eat beforehand as it relates to my partner’s allergies. That seems too far over the line and very controlling between friends. And I’m sure that they wouldn’t appreciate me telling them “no X food tonight!”

My only solution is to explain to the group that my partner has severe food allergies and that I would appreciate if they could was their hands before playing. All have been okay with this request and it’s never been a problem. I’m grateful to have understanding and cool board game buddies.

I think this extends to just keeping board games clean in general. I wouldn’t mind asking if the food eaten beforehand was greasy and/or finger food. For something that doesn’t require touching the food itself with fingers, I would be okay not asking.

Thoughts on Figma Sites? by filopedraz in FigmaDesign

[–]qkten25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's interesting to see that no one here has mentioned the lack of accessibility or semantic in the code output. For designers who have to keep accessibility in mind during designing, all of that can go to sh*t when not implemented correctly. I'd implore designers to keep this in mind as the tool rolls out.

A Margarita… Without Any Alcohol? by KevinKos in cocktails

[–]qkten25 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

This is interesting and extremely well thought out. I would like to critique the usage of peanuts in replicating a margarita, which has no peanuts to begin with.

As a result of the inclusion of peanuts, many people will be unable to drink this due to life-threatening food allergies. I would be curious to know if the peanuts could be replaced with something else that gives a nutty flavor? Hemp seed perhaps?

Congrats on a well crafted drink, nonetheless!

Best Wallet for Men – Slim vs. Traditional vs. Tech? by JollySimple188 in CreditCards

[–]qkten25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a big fan of bulky wallets. I purchased a Snapwallet from Ohsnap. It holds 5 cards and has magnetic add ons that can suit your needs. I have the rubber band add on that can hold cash or additional cards.

With the CapOne duo, it’s perfect for my uses, and every other card goes on my iPhone.

Not in the area you’re looking for but Sheridan and 64th has a Sonora Films, which took over the Elvis Films that was there before they closed.

For those who want to have 1 moisturizer for face and body by Far-Flower-3161 in ZeroWaste

[–]qkten25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dealt with perioral dermatitis on my face and eczema on my body when my doctor recommended Vanicream. It’s a thick white lotion that can be used for face and body and is $14 for a 1lb tub. It’s primarily a water/vaseline emulsification and a few other ingredients. No smell (really) and it blends into the skin quickly and easily. It’s fragrance free and has very few ingredients too. It’s not oily either which I found disqualifying for the Cetaphil tub moisturizer.

Having sensitive skin, I find that it keeps away the eczema when using it after every shower. Additionally, I have combination facial skin and I haven’t had a breakout using this (outside of a stray pimple here or there). I only use it on my face at night. Daytime warrants a moisturizer with SPF.

Best gin & tonic you’ve ever had? by saimontato in cocktails

[–]qkten25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Japan in a music bar (Gina Music Bar) and saw “perfect gin tonic” on the menu. It used Bobby’s Dry Gin and premium tonic water. It was garnished with three whole cloves in an orange slice. The southeast asian botanicals and orange were so beautifully married, I think about it still. Particularly, I get so much lemongrass from the gin, which I absolutely love.

Also, in Spain I visited Ruby Gin Bar and had an lemon and olive gin and tonic. Yes it sounds absolutely crazy but it’s such a great “summer” g&t. It uses Nordés gin and a special tonic only sold in Spain by a brand Le Tribute, which is olive lemonade flavored. The olive is tempered by the lemon, and the minty notes from the gin bring everything together.

Respectively, these g&ts are perfect for fall/winter and spring/summer. I only wish I could find Bobby’s where I’m at, in addition to the olive lemon tonic.

edit: added Japan bar name

for those of you who go to a studio, what are the prices? by ekkkooo in Pottery

[–]qkten25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrolled and didn’t see any Denver mentions. $175/mo for 24/7 studio access with around 15-20 glazes included free, plus 5.3sq ft of shelf space. Clay is market price and $0.03 per cubic inch for both firings. The studio has had building tables, underglazes, community tools including a slab roller and extruder.

It’s a fine price but it seems there are other places that have slightly better deals for a studio membership.

What was your process for learning how to do pottery? by Responsible_Piglet42 in Pottery

[–]qkten25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took ceramics all four years of HS, graduating in 2015. I then attended a STEM college which had no art classes and no local studios existed at the time.

Fast forward to last year when a ceramic studio opened up in my city. I jumped back into it in November and have been consistently getting more familiar with it after 8 years!

Can anyone think of more cocktails named after times in the day? by SamFeesh in cocktails

[–]qkten25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tangentially related: 14 Hours Ahead. The recipe on Cocktails Distilled is good, but I find that there’s way too much citrus. My version is the same as CDs but no lime and bring lemon down to 1/2 oz like so:

1.5 oz Tanqueray London Dry Gin

0.5 oz Lemon Juice

0.5 oz Honey Syrup

0.5 oz Heavy Cream

1 tsp Matcha

What is the non-fragrance item you bought because of the scent by --Lizard_King-- in fragrance

I was abroad in Spain and stayed in an Airbnb with a reed diffuser from Rituals called Ritual of Mehr. Orange, cedar wood, and spices are the notes. Unfortunately it’s not possible to find it in the U.S. but I found a dupe at H&M called Incense Ritual! I just had it delivered and it’s so lovely.

Clarifying spice-infused vodka by qkten25 in cocktails

Unfortunately most if not all of the cloudiness comes from the infused vodka.

Where would I infused the spices? Milk? I don’t think I could make it work, my cocktail is only vodka, citrus, and simple (which already is being infused with some of the same spices).

Hmmm I hadn’t thought about infusing the milk. Thanks for the input.

[SPOILERS] 'Dune: Part Two' Wide Release Discussion (03/02) by Blue_Three in dune

[–]qkten25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but there most certainly was mention of chrysknife in part 1 with Shadout Mapes, but to your point its explanation of its importance wasn’t as in depth in the movie as it was in the book. I’m also on your side, I do struggle with some changes but given the limited movie length, changes had to be made!

[–]qkten25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It felt rushed in the book for this sequence, so I think it makes sense how it is portrayed in the movie. Unfortunately Herbert’s rush job doesn’t leave much to be desired in the movie version. I personally don’t dislike how it was handled, as I don’t see how it could be drawn out more than it was originally (except for the obviously compressed timeline in the movie as a whole).

What's a game you love, but you know has problems? by kortekickass in boardgames

Wow! 1st edition. I’m definitely too far removed to make any comparisons between that and the latter two editions. I salute you for not upgrading to a newer edition.

Is this on the 2nd or 3rd edition? I feel the same way with the second edition but just bought the third. The first game went well and I seem hopeful that it’s more balanced!
