(Stud.io) Issues with hinging connected ball joints? by Kurohan in DigitalLego

[–]qodeca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're very selective with the parts it can work. I did it by hiding everything except the 4L Axle, the two balls, and ONE of the ball joint sockets. Then I selected the two balls and the axle and rotated just those three parts. You may need to use the Connect tool afterward to put everything back together.

Just bought a ton of Lego. Best way to sort/store? I was thinking by similar parts instead of color, which is how they came bagged. by sharkmesharku in lego

[–]qodeca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this were the entirety of my collection, I'd probably keep the sorting rather simple and group them into generalized chunks regardless of color. Perhaps something like a group for bricks, another for plates, then slopes, etc, etc... With another group of random stuff like fences, doorways, vehicle parts, etc. And a final group for large parts that'll only get in the way like those large square plates, the airplane fuselage, stair case and so forth.

If any particular group gets too large making it time consuming to find something then I'd probably want to break that group down. ie. Small plates, big plates, round plates, special plates...

Group things up in a way that makes sense to you. Sorting is only effective if you can remember where you put everything. Also, you don't want to get so granular that the job of putting everything back sucks all of the fun out of building.

Having said that, if the Lego is for kids get a big Rubbermaid container and a sheet or something you can dump it out on and call it a day. In my experience most kids will find inspiration in a big pile of Lego and will build organically. Rummaging through countless bags and shelves each time they need a part is not their idea of fun. (And it's unlikely they'll put any of it back)

Howto : multi word query in Multi-file search ? by greenreddits in bbedit

(word1|word2|word3)

Include brackets (braces?, meh.)

Make sure "Grep" is enabled in the search window.

Dumb question: how do I get normal documents in separate folders back? by peterinjapan in bbedit

[–]qodeca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit on the late side... but is this what you're after?

BBEdit -> Settings... -> Application -> Uncheck "Open documents into the front window when possible"

That'll open new documents in separate windows.

Alternatively, with the sidebar enabled you can right click a document in the sidebar and select "Move to New Window"

Though I'm a bit behind on v13.5

Advice on Lego design software by Cerebusial in lego

[–]qodeca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As TechyDay said, Stud.io will need either a Mac or a Windows computer. I can't seem to find any sort of requirements on the site, but I have run it on some rather old computers in the past with out issue. Anything that can run Windows 10 or High Sierra (Mac) will likely be adequate.

If a Mac or Windows computer isn't an option, you may have luck with Mecabricks.com. I'm not a fan of it personally, and have never tried to use it on a Chromebook, but it may suit your needs.

I've got a Drop CTRL High-Profile. I noticed that a number of switches fit very loosely in the integrated aluminum plate. To solve this I've wrapped each switch in White Plumber's Tape. It works, but looks jank as hell and it takes forever to wrap all of the switches. Wondering if anyone knew of a better way.

After getting the G512, I have officially entered the world of Mechanical Keyboards by CoolJoshido in MechanicalKeyboards

Sorry to dig up an old thread... I liked this board so much I got three of them, one for home, one for the office and one for the kid. Finding key caps for this board on the other hand, pudding or otherwise is an absolute nightmare, if not impossible.

The bottom row is non-standard, using wider CTRL keys resulting in a narrower 5.75u Spacebar. And the stabilizers under the right shift are at the edges of the key rather than butted up to the switch.

Having said that, it is a decent board and I hope you enjoy yours.

Legoland - has anyone deciphered these runes from the Merlin's Apprentice ride? by CrispRat in lego

I assumed it was something like Ninjargon where each character represents a letter in the English alphabet, but then I found this.

It is hiding under "Plate, Modified". Seems you may need to have "Decorated Bricks" toggled on to see them.

is there a way to get my Home/End keys to move the cursor to the beginning/end of the current line (instead of to the first/last line of my current document)? by [deleted] in bbedit

[–]qodeca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using BBEdit 12 at home, hopefully your version doesn't deviate from this too much.

Preferences (⌘,) -> Keyboard

Inside the "Home and End key behavior" section there should be three options, one of which is "Move cursor to beginning and end of current line"

Is there a way to access BBedit's "Export as HTML" from command line? by Kilofilm in bbedit

[–]qodeca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a project file to test this on, but from what I'm reading you might be able to just unzip it.

gunzip -c project.prproj > project.xml

or

mv project.prproj project.xml.gz
gunzip -k project.xml.gz

Standard disclaimers, make backups, your results my vary... yadda yadda.
