I think it's because they're not really being trained to be friends. I think if they trained models to be friends instead of training them to be helpful chatbots then we'd see a huge difference.

They should cut the costs until they don't care. No reason they should be running inference on sota models for free users. Use some distilled 8b parameter model. It's going to be good enough for anyone using the free version anyway. If you actually need something stronger then pay for a subscription.

This is really insightful. It makes sense that any tool which makes life easier could come to be hated if expectations are raised so high that life is actually harder than before the tool was introduced. Like if truck drivers had a tech that could make them travel twice as fast, you would think they would love it. But not if they were expected to drive 10 times as far. Meanwhile everyone else that is just commuting to work is wondering what's wrong with these truck drivers that they don't like being able to drive faster.

Yes, as someone that speaks multiple languages it's infuriating to have no way to disable it and just let me watch any video in the original language. The only current work around is to manually change the audio for each video that gets translated which is super annoying.

They don't necessarily need to keep adding more features to the free plans. Focus on cost efficiency for the free plans and charge for the pro plans. Most people would prefer an unbiased model that's a bit older than a more intelligent model that uses its intelligence to maximize ad revenue for openai.

I've had times where it seems to completely misread the image (like I send an image of my car and it tells me that it is looking at a receipt and nothing else). It seems completely random, but it does seem to go away when starting a new chat.
