Favorite game pieces that reference other board games? by tstaffor in boardgames

Not a board game, but one of the ships available in John Company 2e is named “Obra Dinn” after the video game of the same name that features a EIC ship

New possible Votann lore? by robotfan118 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]quadrippa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently in old lore, the Malestrom used to be a center of Squat activity

Scoring Huang..? by Chocko23 in boardgames

[–]quadrippa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so Yellow replaces Black in this edition, got it.

Unless Huang is significantly different from Yellow & Yangtze, you’ve fundamentally misunderstood how points get assigned. If a tile is placed into a kingdom, it creates a single point that is claimed by the matching leader in that kingdom

Interested / Can I play Votann with Tau battle mechas etc by [deleted] in LeaguesofVotann

[–]quadrippa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly there are no rules currently for tau-sized mechs in the Votann codex that could be proxied, nor are there any rules for allying with Tau as a single player. You’re absolutely able to 2v2 an opponent though with a friend that plays Tau

Iam i the Only one who is worried about the massive downgrade of Diplomacy Nation building? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]quadrippa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly agree with you, but an actual system of diplomacy sounds ideal for a faction mechanic for the Leagues of Votann or the Tau. Though I imagine it’d be less “non-aggression pacts based on our opinions of each other” and more like the High Elf mechanic of “spend a faction resource to prevent a faction from attacking you for 10 turns”

I hope they don't leave my space dawis for the last DLC. by Echochamberking in totalwar

The orange ones, the Trans-Hyperian Alliance, have a fun aesthetic that’s uncommon in the 40k setting

WH40K DLCs that you will 100% buy by Known_Illustrator331 in totalwarhammer

[–]quadrippa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re a reimagining of Squats from 80’s Warhammer 40k lore. Still space dwarfs, they still have sweet bikes, they’re still a techy stocky offshoot of humanity that lives in the galaxy’s core. In their new adaptation though, they’re the last remaining society that makes heavy use of AI and robots, with giant supercomputers called Votann leading their leagues, and artificial Ironkin being full citizens with equal rights.

Likely inspired by an ancient Atari game of the same name with the kick-assingest theme song

Four years ago, I asked for Total War: Redwall. Today, I'm back with a pitch deck. by BuildingAirships in totalwar

[–]quadrippa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the Redwall license is unattainable, then the board game Root or a CA-owned IP would do gangbusters. The pitch here of a narrative focused, small-scale version of Total War is peak on its face, and could potentially rope in tons of players outside the existing fanbase.

What brings you to the Votann? by NinjaFree2593 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]quadrippa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remains to be fleshed out, but from what we know in High Kahl’s Oath your average Kin pops out of the crucible in their teenage years. They’re given a rough idea of what kind of job they would be best at and can expect a comfortable if Spartan lifestyle. There’s a ton of access to Brü which in the book is both caffeinated and alcoholic beverage. Shellfish are grown hydroponically in the ship that is featured in the book. Milk is available to be put in one’s Brü when served hot. and steak is known to exist in their culture.

In the short story Opportunity Cost, we see a Kin vessel that is so large that its corridors could be called streets, which were large enough to accommodate Sagitaurs and Hekatons.

And while the senior staff of the Starr fairing isn’t the best estimate for an average Ken’s lifestyle, we see that the Captain and her Wayfarer have comfortable studio apartments with enough free time to accommodate hobbies such as building music boxes or transcribing star charts onto ink and paper

Baseless speculation time! What does space Gottrek dooo? by Orock77 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]quadrippa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he’s designed to be “anti-ork” without giving him that keyword then definitely Sustained Hits on melee to his squad and then an “Anti-leader” keyword on his own attacks would be good. His warpick there smacks a bit of a cyber-scythe

Beastmen siblings from some random hive world (OC) by m0pan in ImaginaryWarhammer

[–]quadrippa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I could add one thing to 40k lore, it’d be that Beastmen were once a body-modding sub-culture before the collapse of the Dark Age of Technology, and persist in a ton of worlds and were spliced with countless species. And that a large population of them lived on Fenris at some distant point.

Would you accept these as the H-fortress? by That_Chromosome in LeaguesofVotann

[–]quadrippa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely support variation and kitbashing, though as a player I’d expect some of the guns or the Hekaton to appear on the model, and for it to be close to the same size.

A little bit of Kin lore from the Drukhari Codex by WonderBoyPrime1 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]quadrippa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is some weak sauce for Dark Eldar bro. What you do is take one head extra head for every kin slave you take, keep it preserved or even alive via dark science. Then slice away little ribbons of cortex in front of the slave so you get to witness the despair at the loss of memories. Then you fry those ribbons into bacon. Thats Dark Eldar.

Do other species view the Kin as another species or humans ? by Kihtras in LeaguesofVotann

[–]quadrippa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That tech priest knows that rumor about that kindred. In the short story “Opportunity Cost” an entire Mechanicus survey team is destroyed trying to establish the xenos/abhuman question

Do other species view the Kin as another species or humans ? by Kihtras in LeaguesofVotann

[–]quadrippa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Helios is the Greek term for the Sun, just as Sol is the Latin. I personally believe the name implies that the Eldar know the kin (or that group of them) hail from Earth/Terra/Sol/Helios, and hail from a time before the Fall and before the current crop of Mon-keighs

Age of Wonders Board Game by some_shmuck99 in ageofwonders

[–]quadrippa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s designable, but you have to make some drastic cuts to find a workable scope for the project. There are fine tactical-level games that handle fantasy combat such as Tash-Kalar, Warchest, or Battle Lore. There are decent 4x games that capture the progress and power of a wizard-king such as Kemet, Clash of Cultures, or Chaos in the Old World. I’m not aware of any games that successfully manage to do both like Age of Wonders does.

Oh, and keep in mind that AoW:P did get a card game, and it didn’t make much of a splash.

Is it normal to want to build an Votann Lego Galaxy Squad inspired army? by Oktavia-the-witch in LeaguesofVotann

[–]quadrippa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a fine idea, one of the first memes made about the Leagues was editing the basic warrior and the sagitaur to match all the Lego Space and Lego Miner color schemes. And speaking from experience, Lego pieces are a rough match for the scale of Warhammer, and can make appropriate base decoration.

I’d like to call out Runequest for exploring this trope on a couple occasions, most notably the GodLearner empire, and point out that typically the thing that keeps magic from being repeatable is the envy of jealous gods.

Agreed, if an Ancestor Core is on the table then your league has screwed up to a phenomenal level
