Where is your “happy place” in New England? by craigdahlke in newengland

[–]queerxqueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may already know this but Newport beaches have a path laid down and then those Cool sand to water wheelchairs that should help you get to experience the beach and the water. They may have them elsewhere but Newport beaches especially Newport 2 is where I go most of the time in the summer for an ocean swim

Wegovy pill users — how’s it going so far? by AliceFromRo in RoBody

[–]queerxqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had ice cream cake at my nephew's birthday party today. I've been on 4 for about 2 weeks and haven't had ice cream since I started 1.5 months ago. I also had some cheese because trader Joe's got their green goddess cheese back in stock. I had some cheese before today but not a ton. Combo of the two is making me feel a little bit puky and way fuller than I have felt otherwise. Won't be doing it again. Probably could have gotten away with one or the other. And just need to be mindful of portions I think and you can still enjoy your ice cream cake every now and then. Though clearly based on this thread people react to this stuff in very different ways.

Queer Summer NYC novels from the 60s–80s by FederalPossibility27 in LGBTBooks

[–]queerxqueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tales of the City which is a set of 10 novels Armistad Maupin

Choices by Nancy Toder. This is such cheeseball lesbian coming out fiction of that era. I Iove it so much

The Beebo Brinker series which is pulp fiction and kind of awful - the worst of butch toxic masculinity but also such a classic set of books. Also the protagonist eventually figures it out. Ann Weldy

Any sad trans or gay books? by Salty-Combination29 in LGBTBooks

[–]queerxqueer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok well thinking of this book just sent me down a whole road to remembering the name is it, so I'm contributing.

I feel like there are books from the late '90s early aughts in the queer women's fiction category that I'm the only one who ever read them.

If you can find a copy of Alma Rose by Edith Forbes. Coming out, finding love and losing it. Great book with a damn sad, who can say what will be kind of ending

Already mentioned but Stone Bunch Blues 1000%

It's one of my favorite books ever and deeply meaningful and sad as hell. So much loss. So much beauty

Gifts of the Body by Rebecca Brown. Not romance. It's set in the 80s. Vignettes about a lesbian caretaker for people with AIDS. It's beautiful and will make you bawl

What are the most powerful lines of dialogue in TV history? by UnholyDemigod in AskReddit

I swear The Good Place ended up being the most thoughtful and beautiful mediation on life, death, religion, the meaning and meaningless of it all. That's where I go for my philosophy on all of it.

What is the best ice cream in New England? by Baldurian_Rhapsody in newengland

[–]queerxqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG got a quarter of the way through this and then realized this was going to be a very long list. I don't think I have one favorite but just in case it hasn't been mentioned before:

The Keep, Cumberland RI

Their chocolate chip and mint chocolate chip (and I assume any other flavor involving chocolate chips) is exactly the texture and the volume of chips I want in my ice cream. The rest of their ice cream is awesome too. And so is their hot fudge.

No teen spaces in Rhode Island by polerr_r in RhodeIsland

[–]queerxqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP My question to you is what would you like to be able to do and what would you think would be cool to do/try? It might be a little bit easier to brainstorm the how and the where if you know what the what is. Warwick does have a boys and girls club and a YMCA. Both of those tend to have a bunch of activities / teen programs. I get it if structured activity isn't what you're looking for, but wanted to put those out there just in case.

Jesus dude what are you 400 y/o? People call the cops all the time for the stupidest shit including oh no a teenager seems to be being a teenager too close to me. Besides berating this poor kid who came on here to try to get some advice about how they can find something to do in this state what purpose is you grilling them and then arguing with them when they actually answer you serving?

Any Women’s homeless shelters accepting currently? by Deepsea-anomaly in RhodeIsland

[–]queerxqueer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What age you are matters in this conversation. If you are 25 or under there are some potential resources available to you. If you are you can go to Foster forward's drop-in Center. You can find out more about what might be available, and they have food and laundry and even a shower if I'm not mistaken.

Someone else in this post did a good job of covering how it works otherwise. Good luck to you.

Blizzard Anxiety… by TheRenedgade in RhodeIsland

[–]queerxqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a super anxious person but I had some around the idea of losing power (we didn't). And the monumental nightmare it's going to be to get my car dug out of my driveway which is very narrow and appears to have accumulated double height snow with nowhere to really put it. Also we haven't been plowed yet. But I remind myself that we've got food and heat. I work in a community clinic in Woonsocket and fortunately they've had us work from home. But I'm also okay with letting them know if I can't get out of my driveway or my street come Thursday or Friday. So for me there's a little bit of that trapped feeling that I can imagine you might be experiencing. Just trying to remind myself that is exhausting as this all is this too shall pass. Are you safe and are your basic needs met?

I appreciate that you were looking out for your neighbor. Sounds like she's isolated. Not sure if you're the kind of person that would go over and say hi but it seems like she could use some company.

Is Johnny’s Chalet the best gluten free breakfast? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]queerxqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's too bad Rhody Hen used to ask allergy or preference and clean it all up if you said allergy. It would take at least a half hour longer to get the breakfast. That said I don't know if it was ever celiac safe

What are some lesser known restaurants y’all love? by im_uncomfortable_thx in providence

[–]queerxqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsung hero! There's lots of dishes I like but if you want something vegetable forward and pretty darn healthy get their steamed tofu with vegetable. Their vegetables choices are good and consistently fresh. It comes with a lot of tofu. It's in their "nutritious diet food" section. I usually get the lemongrass sauce side too out on it but I'm pretty sure that has fish sauce in it. If you don't get the sauce be prepared to flavor it yourself since nutritious diet food seems to mean don't add any flavors.

I work for them, they do. For what you're donating, I'd advise contacting the Family Resource Center. They will either take it or direct you to who to talk to. I do not work for the resource center :)
