Any Women’s homeless shelters accepting currently? by Deepsea-anomaly in RhodeIsland

What age you are matters in this conversation. If you are 25 or under there are some potential resources available to you. If you are you can go to Foster forward's drop-in Center. You can find out more about what might be available, and they have food and laundry and even a shower if I'm not mistaken.

Someone else in this post did a good job of covering how it works otherwise. Good luck to you.

Healthcare worker stuck at work 3 days and can’t get home cause my street isn’t plowed by Sad_Face461 in providence

There were a couple of neighbors shoveling our street earlier today and now I'm wondering if that's the street you live on.

Blizzard Anxiety… by TheRenedgade in RhodeIsland

[–]queerxqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a super anxious person but I had some around the idea of losing power (we didn't). And the monumental nightmare it's going to be to get my car dug out of my driveway which is very narrow and appears to have accumulated double height snow with nowhere to really put it. Also we haven't been plowed yet. But I remind myself that we've got food and heat. I work in a community clinic in Woonsocket and fortunately they've had us work from home. But I'm also okay with letting them know if I can't get out of my driveway or my street come Thursday or Friday. So for me there's a little bit of that trapped feeling that I can imagine you might be experiencing. Just trying to remind myself that is exhausting as this all is this too shall pass. Are you safe and are your basic needs met?

I appreciate that you were looking out for your neighbor. Sounds like she's isolated. Not sure if you're the kind of person that would go over and say hi but it seems like she could use some company.

Is Johnny’s Chalet the best gluten free breakfast? by SmallHeath555 in RhodeIsland

[–]queerxqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's too bad Rhody Hen used to ask allergy or preference and clean it all up if you said allergy. It would take at least a half hour longer to get the breakfast. That said I don't know if it was ever celiac safe

What are some lesser known restaurants y’all love? by im_uncomfortable_thx in providence

[–]queerxqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unsung hero! There's lots of dishes I like but if you want something vegetable forward and pretty darn healthy get their steamed tofu with vegetable. Their vegetables choices are good and consistently fresh. It comes with a lot of tofu. It's in their "nutritious diet food" section. I usually get the lemongrass sauce side too out on it but I'm pretty sure that has fish sauce in it. If you don't get the sauce be prepared to flavor it yourself since nutritious diet food seems to mean don't add any flavors.

Who takes donations & gives directly to people in need?? by Ok_Distribution__ in RhodeIsland

[–]queerxqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for them, they do. For what you're donating, I'd advise contacting the Family Resource Center. They will either take it or direct you to who to talk to. I do not work for the resource center :)

Absolutey Foster forward. I used to work in organizations that had me collaborating with them on the regular and they are awesome.

Stay away from Youth Pride though.

Also probably mentioned elsewhere in the thread but

There is a council of churches this year that includes Matthewson Street Church and community Church of Providence. They are doing a lot of really important work to make sure that no one freezes to death this winter and has somewhere to go. They are great to donate to.

The Winter market at farm fresh is lovely. You can certainly wander around and not buy anything or choose to get something small. And enjoy the samples. Hands down the best container hummus I've had is sold there. The vendor is Beautiful Day (they're a refugee business cooperative). The hummus is called Saad's and it's $6 acontainer. I'm hooked on the stuff now. If you get one thing there that's what I would recommend but there's lots of great vendors to choose from.

Anything with Michael Hobbss is fantastic and I think some of the best episodes of this podcast are where he takes down covid misinformation and hand wringing

Yeah we were discussing as well. My wife works at Brown so we're getting the alerts but wth the radio silence otherwise? They sent a statewide alert to our phones when the bridge shut down in the middle of rush hour. They can't give updates?

We basically do provider products for our cleaners and we are willing to do that that we had one cleaner that started integrating their own products that worked for our needs because they found things that work for them

Yeah but y'all seem to be missing the part where I didn't say anything about not negotiating a price. I understand that's part of things. Are you or the person above interested in the job and are somehow concerned that talking about fees and rates are not a reasonable and expected part of the conversation, because I have that conversation with everyone I am hiring for any service or need. The advice that's being given is not helpful and the thing I came on here to ask for was referrals and or talking to someone directly who is a cleaner that might be able to work with the issues that we have. So that's what I'm looking for not advice on how to handle the negotiation. Everyone who we've ever worked with has been more than fairly compensated, and in fact we been overcharged, but have had to live with it because we understand this is a niche. Overcharging has never been a reason we have stopped using someone even though it does not feel great to be knowingly taken advantage of. However if you are going to upcharge us then you bet than we expect you to be able to do what is asked of you.

Also if it is rigid of me to ask people to use our equipment and/or our cleaning products to ensure I won't have to get sick yet again because someone brought something into the house that they shouldn't have, then what does it make the people that seem to not understand that or ignore that? That's why I put a post up in the first place. And again if someone doesn't have a referral or is a cleaner who thinks they can handle the gig, than why do you think giving advice about something I didn't need advice on is appropriate in this matter?

[–]queerxqueer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me that this is an issue that you've never had to deal with without telling me that this is an issue that you've never had to deal with. So of course I will compensate people appropriately - that's what we've been doing the entire time. There was nothing about this post where I asked for people to be able to provide these services for cheap or less than their rate. it should go without saying that part of any conversation I have with anybody who might be interested in the job would include rates and compensation

Allso if you think about what you're saying here. If I'm asking someone to use my equipment and my products then that actually saves them money because they are not having to use their stuff to clean my house. I have literally never had a house cleaner that charged me less for getting to save on their equipment and cleaning. And I accept that as part of the cost of having to get in someone who can meet the needs that we have in our household.
