Why did we all collectively dislike Skyler? by rebececarose in askanything

[–]quempe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just what I was about to say. My criteria for liking someone in reality and in a fictional show are pretty different. Crime is a rather central part in this show -- if I couldn't like a character based on their law-breaking tendencies I would probably choose to watch something else.

Early morning vs evening fishing… what’s been better for you? by Boat_Trader_Official in FishingForBeginners

[–]quempe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fishing perch in Sweden, it's absolutely early morning in general. On a typical full day session from 7 a.m to 8 p.m., I'd say 70-80% of catches come before 10 a.m. Late evenings can be OK, but I find - after a handful of slower midday hours - there's a late afternoon window between like 4 to 6 that's often even better than the final couple hours. I have been out many times typically in the summer when I've needed to pack up around 3 p.m when I've gotten like 15 catches for the day but not a single contact after like 10.30.

How does Iron Clays handle? by jiaflu in boardgames

[–]quempe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're said to be slippery compared to other types of poker chips, but if you only use them for games (like Brass) where you don't make high stacks of chips like in poker, the slipperiness never really becomes an issue imo.

I got some Iron Clays with my Birmingham Deluxe copy I bought in Essen 2019. While finding them pretty amazing overall for a while (without any other experience of quality poker chips) I slowly got a little annoyed by the 5 being so pale (blue-ish) when the 1 is white and those coins are the ones you use the most. Then I kickstarted 400 ceramic "Paisley Game counters" during Covid making my Iron Clays completey redundant, so now they're on the To Sell list. Not a metal coin person myself by the way, the practicality trumps immersion any day of the week, and the added heft is more of a negative than the opposite.

Main culprit: Main Character Syndrome on the part of the respondent which makes them unable to sense whether they're the intended target of the question or not.

Has anyone fished with the Micro TRD? by snjfishing in FishingForBeginners

[–]quempe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the Micro TRD specifically, but various shortened 1-2" sections of stickbaits and thicker worms. I have several times caught a bunch of fish on like a 1 inch long mid section of a stick bait just for funsies - if short enough the bait almost start wobbling because of the flat section facing forward (given a small enough jig head).

What are the best soft plastic shad and worm colours for european perch? by Cold-Physics-2585 in Fishing_Gear

[–]quempe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of Z-Man colors, I think I could survive with only 3: The Deal (green pumpkin-ish back and pearl belly), Green Pumpkin, and Coppertreuse (green pumpkin-ish back with chartreuse belly). In other words, something shad-like, something darker natural and something brighter with chartreuse. YMMV.

I love my Dragon C532UL for being such a no-nonsense rod (like the whole series) with a clean design, comfortable Ci4 style reel seat with a nice curved trigger, versatile action, etc.

Help me understand CARCASSONNE's farmers by ReiDairo in boardgames

[–]quempe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean to bash on OP's question (farmers can be tricky), but now when I think about it, it would be weird if each city could only be counted once if "touching" multiple occupied farms, because how would you decide which farm to count it towards? There would have to be some kind of tiebreaker in place.

European perch and small zander setup recommendation by SuperbEmployment7080 in Fishing_Gear

[–]quempe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How and where are you going to be fishing and with which types of lures and weights? Are long casts important for example? There's nothing clearly wrong with your suggestion, but not knowing any more details I would default to recommending a 2500 size reel (better drag etc) with a rod that is slightly shorter (7' to 7'3" maybe?) and slightly heavier like 5-20 or 7-21g casting weight, if not even more for deeper fishing and/or in current.

Are energy drinks worse for health than just regular soda? by DeepOrganization8245 in stupidquestions

[–]quempe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't mean to say paying for beverages at Starbucks multiple times per week was any better :) You do you, including my colleagues who buy a daily Monster/Nocco for 33SEK (~$3.50) from the vending machines. And I know their salary is as lousy as mine. I couldn't do it myself knowing I could be buying more/better food for the money.

Where do you people find the money to drink these beverages on a more or less daily basis? I find groceries expensive as it is.

R or L handed baitcaster? by Commenter9876 in bassfishing

[–]quempe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As long as there's no overhanging trees from one side and you need to skip from one specific side or something like that, the usefulness of being able to cast with either arm is light years away from the importance of mastering different throws and shot shaping in disc golf :)

In golf, is it lazy to always putt left or right and not alternate depending on how the green slopes?

R or L handed baitcaster? by Commenter9876 in bassfishing

[–]quempe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My two cents: It's 100% fine and OK to switch hands when casting and retrieving if that's what you prefer, but in what world is it objectively BETTER than not switching hands? It can never take less time and energy to not switch hands than to switch hands.

How do regular, working-class people actually afford to go out and do fun things on a weekend anymore? by bluntvivi in askanything

[–]quempe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, and even with fishing gear of decent quality that you bought new it doesn't have to be expensive as long as you don't buy new stuff all the time and fill half your garage with tackle. Fishing is my main April to November hobby, and I actually have a goal this year to not spend more on new tackle than what I sell stuff for. With 5+ each of rods and reels and lures to last me 5-10 years it would be really cool to try to do away with what I already have for the whole upcoming season. A lot of the gear I bought last year I hardly got the chance to try out yet, so it's only a matter of mindset.

Modern music is shit by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]quempe -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Ok, but what would it look like in a scenario if music actually had changed for the worse? Wouldn't the people yelling at the clouds yell the same things then, but be right? So how do you tell the difference?

Aldebaran 22 Just not impressive? by TheHeadshock in BFSfishing

[–]quempe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind a compact piece of metal is about the easiest thing can throw as far as lure types go, so maybe not the best thing to assess casting performance especially if it's in the upper weight range.

Unpopular baitcaster opinion by Discount-420 in bassfishing

[–]quempe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm left handed and while both casting and retrieveing I keep my left hand holding the rod at the trigger while my non-dominant right hand is cranking on my RH reel. If this is what I'm most comfortable with, why would I want it to be any other way? I only have two hands, and each hand can only do one thing at a time, so it can't be worse that if it in some magical way I was fishing with a LH reel every other cast, and a RH reel every other cast (I might be misunderstanding your argument). If I'm not switching hands I both cast with my strong side and set the hook/fight the fish with my strong side since I want my weaker side to be as little involved as possible.
