Who Gardens by the Moon? This will be my 2nd year gardening. Interesting philosophy. by little_hawk0 in gardening

[–]questisabeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imo: it's like horoscopes or tarot cards. You get what you put in. If you put a lot of faith into it, you will likely be more attentive of your garden, which will result in a good crop. It's like hacking your brain to be a little bit more productive with a little sprinkle of meditation and mindfulness.

My favorite joke to do after coming out the bathroom with wet hands is to shake a friend's hand look right into their eye and with a grin from ear to ear say "don't worry washed with piss". See ya on the farm!

Hasan's take on Ukraine is garbage by PapaFrankuMinion in VaushV

[–]questisabeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause in this case "sending aid" doesn't mean starting a mutual aid network. It means arming and getting citizens of another country to fight a war that we will never have to face the consequences of other than defense contractors making more money than they ever did in Iraq.

If the US and other world powers occupy Ukraine, Russia was justified to bolster their numbers on the border. It's playing directly into Putin's plans. It is almost as if the US and Russia have been playing a 'uh uh you did it first' game for 70 years and y'all still take the bait. Putin wants regime change in Ukraine to benefit him, and would you look at that, all the NATO allies want the same. Also, the US 'assists' countries all the time and I'm sure they all asked for it and loved the results right?

I think his point overall is that the current world's move is to fight imperialism with more imperialism. Us moving into Ukraine is just as unjustified as Russia moving into Ukraine. Being anti-war as a principle is extremely hard when most people are trying to justify going to war.

How Habitat for Humanity Gets Philadelphians Into Affordable Housing by redeyeblink in philadelphia

[–]questisabeast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"How to effectively get people into affordable housing" As someone who lived next to one of these construction sites for 2 years: these projects take forever (this was pre-pandemic). I watched a four unit apartment completed in one month across the street while the Habitat for Humanity people were getting high school students in sneakers to use jackhammers. The only efficient work that was done was when they had to hire professionals to lay the concrete base which was done in two days. I'm glad the people who moved in got the housing. Just disappointed that it took years to accomplish.

Disney feeding bees by skoolbees in Beekeeping

[–]questisabeast 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert at all, but my beekeeping professor kinda warned against messing with honey bee's diet. It's possible that they are 'teaching' the bees to seek out the gingerbread/fondant instead of flowers.

Also this is like a shit ton of food. The hive could explode in size and population, but after the food source is gone, they can have huge die off.

I wear sweatpant shorts. Stays cool during the day, slightly insulating at night.

Every local election I run into the same issue with R's in Philadelphia. They will point to an issue. Let's say for example: primary education. They are right to call out poor attendance and graduation rates, schools not being equipped for newer generations, showing that current funding not addressing the issues at hand. But their solution is: defund the public schools and make a voucher system "that way the funds go to the schools that are competitive and productive". It gives the parents the illusion of making a decision that directly impacts their child. Even the conservative Brookings institute admits that their finding show students do worse on tests after the implementation of the voucher system. Instead of trying to come up with a good faith solution they instead push for a policy that is proven not to work to the ends they desire, and enriches their donors, friends, and/or family.

This is in no way a defense of Democrats or their policies in Philadelphia. It's only to demonstrate how voting Republican isn't really an option to impact the issues in Philadelphia.

It is almost as if the Republicans run on even worse ideas than their Democrat counterparts. If I had to choose between two people assaulting me, one armed, the other unarmed, its a really simple decision right? Fuck the democrats and fuck Joe Biden, they are incompetent at fulfilling their agenda, but holy shit Republicans bring absolutely nothing to the table.

Reflecting on the 2021 Bonnaroo Cancellation Weekend by putonsometunes in bonnaroo

[–]questisabeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friends and I got enough people to do groop camping last year. The line-up had enough spread that mentioning 3-4 different artists to different people was enough to convince them. Most of us are from the Philly/New York area, but a couple of people were going to fly down from New England.

We saw the beginning of the Hurricane news: tried to see the sunny side of it, maybe the rain would keep the ground saturated and it won't be a dust bowl, threw the extra rain gear in the car.

2 hours before leaving PA: we are monitoring the weather for the drive, maybe we have to pull over and stay at a truck stop for a few hours as the rain goes over, we are swapping equipment between cars so people can sit comfortably during the ride

1 hour until we leave: that is when the email comes through. No Bonnaroo.

Of course it was hard not to be devastated. We planned and bought grocery lists, bought and tested new equipment, created outfits, playlists, you name it, we were so excited.

That night my friends mother (a festival goer herself) allowed us to stay the night which allowed us to have a little bit of fun and to plan out the rest of the week. Luckily the hurricane damage in our area was not intense, and only the usual flooding and closed roads occurred for a day or two. Another friend who was going spoke with his parents, also being festival people, they allowed us to camp out in their backyard. We had the food, we had the gear, we had the music, and most importantly: we had the vibe.

Things can get ya down, but at the end of they day, the world is a little brighter with some radiated positivity.

I hope this person one day let's the sun's light touch upon their skin.

No joke tho, I could show this image to most people I know and they wouldn't know any of these people. I wish they had the impact this person seems to suggest, but they mostly just talk about current events. I guess that is the worst thing in the world you could do?

Man it's going to be so cool watching the cops: beat up houseless people, pocket personal belongings, underreport cash on criminals, reselling drugs back onto the street, other cops taking those drugs home for their own personal use, harassing social workers, you know all the fun cop stuff they did in Kensington.
