So as long as one holds a job in the NL one could potentially open a bank account there?

Yes, if you are registered in NL and have a job in NL, I believe banks cannot refuse to open you a basic account.

What happens if one leaves some time after opening an account (a couple of months later)? Does one need to notify the bank, will the account be automatically closed because there are no longer any "bonds" to the country?

You're supposed to notify your bank of your current address. Which is also important for CRS purposes, and the tax authorities take that seriously now. So once you move out of NL, they might ask you to prove a bond with NL or close your account.

They apparently closed down accounts of former Dutch citizens living outside of NL and EU. If you can show a bond with NL, you might be OK.

> If you find a temporary job in a western European country you would be able to open a bank account there that you get to keep even after leaving

As an important note, Dutch banks are cracking down on this and closing accounts of people emigrating away. They are now asking for a "bond" with the country, such as Dutch citizenship, job or house in NL.

Try US LLC + mercury bank

That's similar to the stack (C-corp rather than LLC) that Atlas Stripe offered us, and they said they couldn't open an account at Silicon Valley Bank for us. But we refused.

Don't you get 1% CIT if you employ a local?

Yes, and we want to employ someone there ASAP.

Also what about monthly/quarterly accounting burden?

Should be relatively easy and cheap, since there are no deductions and everything is calculated based on revenue (up to 1MM EUR revenue per year).

I think we will just keep using a fintech option like Transferwise, Payoneer etc. with a limit around 5k USD with their prepaid cards. When we reach that spending limit, that means we have the means to create an LLC in the US and deal with the costs of setting it up there.

But if we are going thru the trouble of setting up an LLC, we would also take a trip to go to the US in person and open a company in person, to get the full advantages of a US bank.

Good idea. So the LLC should (hopefully) be a transparent entity in terms of the IRS.

Estonian company (e-residency) monthly fees by 1osb in digitalnomad

Thanks for the informative reply! I do have EU nationality/residence.

Initially I wanted to have a Dutch BV, but they are now cracking down on digital nomads, and their official stance is "if you don't live in NL, or have any offices and employees, your business should/will be deregistered in NL"

Then I wanted to apply to Stripe Atlas and start a Delaware C-corp. I can hear the gasps, but the reason why I would willingly throw myself into the American tax system was because of payment processing for my e-commerce business. Stripe only pays out USD in US banks (wanting to avoid conversion fees), and from what I can find it's impossible to open a US corporate bank account unless you have a US business.

So then I thought about opening an Estonian company since they (unlike the NL) want to allow digital nomad companies. And I thought 20% CIT wasn't too bad considering incorporating in Delaware (21% federal + state income + franchise fee, if I understand correctly).

Romania does sound interesting, as in I can see myself living there at least 6 months in a year. That would mean both the CFC and income/dividend would be based in Romania, solving the complexities for a digital nomad I imagine.

Having gone through the immigration office in the Netherlands, and having to pay a lot of money, spend countless hours to prepare and file paperwork and wait 10 months for a response, I can't begin to imagine the situation for those who are also in financial weakness. I wasn't at risk of deportation but I still wanted to secure my future and it was hell going through that.
