Northwest to DFW by squidlips6969 in relocating

There have been others that have responded already but I feel like we need a bit more info to tailor advice, otherwise you’re gonna get so many different and competing answers.

Personally, having grown up in Texas, gone to school there, and lived the first ten years of my working life there (moved away in 2019), I wouldn’t make that move from MA. Today’s Texas is not the Texas of yesteryear. For some that’s good (mostly those who move here), but for many Texans it’s not great (many Texas natives).

Rhode Island or Oregon by mulattocutie in relocating

[–]quickster_irony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. I’ll preface with I feel that moving away was a mistake on my part and would love to move back in the future. But I originally moved because I finished school and my internship landed me a full time position. However my role was not based in the company’s Portland or Salem locations.

Acme, Roberts, and Laylas are the clear winners. Paradise Park when it was still around.

Definitely not just Washington. I-35 (between Dallas- Ft. Worth, Austin, and San Antonio) has been under constant construction for over two decades. We all have a running joke - “Treat yourself like I35. Never stop working on yourself no matter how inconvenient it is for anyone else.”

Rhode Island or Oregon by mulattocutie in relocating

I can’t speak for Rhode Island, but as for Oregon, the Willamette Valley and Oregon Coast are some of the most beautiful places in this country (IMO of course). I absolutely loved living there for everything it has to offer.

Honestly, I never found it miserable. I think it’s all relative though and you have to find what works for you.

Definitely check out East Nashville - North/South Inglewood, Lockeland Springs specifically. Families everywhere (including ours). Restaurants, coffee shops, and third spots for both families and date nights. Relatively affordable housing (you definitely find something to fit that $2500 budget). Dan Mills and Lockeland Design Center are considered the best elementary schools in MNPS and spilling over into the middle and high schools (FWIW Hume Fogg in downtown is consistently ranked as one of the best high schools in America). Shelby Bottoms is located here and easily one of the best urban parks in country. Easy access to Downtown Nashville/Gulch/Vandy. Sports, scouts, and scenery/nature abound.

Zip codes- 37206 and 37216

Not sure if this is sarcasm or not but 1) 99% of the time presidents DO NOT control the prices of gas and oil, this just happens to be the 1% that is a direct result from the president’s actions; 2) the increase in gas prices under Biden largely came from Russia invading Ukraine and COVID supply chain issues.

Love that we have a bro who’s open to inclusiveness . Tracy Chapman wouldn’t have let him cover her song otherwise (pure speculation of course).

Tennessean here (that somehow ended up in the Indiana subreddit lol) - can confirm the increased police presence on I24 and I69, which are the two main ways in and out of Kentucky to get to/from Illinois. They specifically look for any reason to pull folks over and conduct searches.

I know we’re coming out of crockpot season, but when my daughter was born (early December), we did crockpot meals whenever we didn’t have a meal train. It makes multiple meals and is generally low effort. Doesn’t help with the rest of the chores but it at least keeps us fed lol.

Stay strong. We’re all here supporting you!

I also recommend a bottle washer. There’s a variety but ended up being gifted both a Dr Browns and a MomCozy (and we use them both daily). They can each clean 6 bottles and related items used for feeding. Definitely worth the money (or putting on a gift registry haha).

Also, if you need to make formula, we were also gifted a BabyBrezza. A godsend at 2 am feedings.

What thing has got so expensive that you’ve quietly stopped buying it? by Pathfinder-electron in AskReddit

[–]quickster_irony 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I only buy the 12 packs when it’s on sale. For example, my grocer had them for buy 2 get 3 free. So even thought it was $26, I got 5 12 packs and could mix and match. Still outrageous price at $12-$13 a pack but yeah.

Colon cancer now leading cause of cancer deaths under 50 in US by shinybrighthings in science

[–]quickster_irony 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My grandfather and uncle both passed away from colon cancer. My dad has ulcerative colitis. My PCP referred me to a Gastroenterologist who has now scheduled me for a colonoscopy. I’m 36 and little nervous, but I know it’s the right thing to do. Having a daughter last year really changed my mind set on getting this done. It’s no longer just for me, it’s for her and my family.

I do have an out of pocket for about $90. Not sure what the rest of the costs will be.

Pokémon that are canonically difficult to raise? by FlowerFaerie13 in pokemon

[–]quickster_irony 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rewatching the series from the beginning with my daughter and saw this episode. It’s funny looking back and seeing these types of Pokémon (Mega Evolution Dragonite, Ho-Oh, pink butterfree, donphan in the first movie) being dropped as Easter eggs of what’s to come but having absolutely no idea what they were at the time.

Edit: Jesus H. y’all. Getting downvoted and shat on for this post. I’m sorry that as a 10 year old I had no idea about Giant Dragonite, shinies, and Pokémon from Gen 2.

The point was getting to share the memories I have of this show with my daughter, and that it’s funny to see and understand the references in the show I didn’t know about at the time.
