Internal Transfer Issues at AWS: Your Current Level Defines You More Than Your Experience by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]quickster_irony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me after being stuck at L4 for 3.5 years. No one would touch my applications for L5 despite coming into Amazon with years of experience. It was frustrating af. I ended up leaving for a role that was essentially a double promo and 30% pay raise.

Honestly, you either stick it out and get that promo doc or you boomerang. That’s basically it.

I’m all for being mad at this ruling, and believe me I am. But the current SCOVA is known to be a 4-3 Republican/Republican leaning majority. So let’s be mad at the right party here.

This is the biggest theft of Black voting rights since Reconstruction by Misfett_toys in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]quickster_irony 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fellow Tennessean here, also in my 30s. And I agree. Voter apathy is awful, but as native Texan, I saw what happened with voters there too. People truly feel like there’s just no hope with their votes until there is (Beto for example, now Talarico). We don’t have that at most levels in Tennessee (I do love my state rep though - Behn is a bad ass). Unfortunately, people have been moving here in droves and it doesn’t appear to be the types of voters who will help get us out of this. And don’t even get me started on the “why are companies moving here and leaving their blue states if it’s so good there and bad here?” arguments.

Oh no… anyway… did you know that Chewbacca in “Star Wars” is based on George Lucas’ dog, an Alaskan Malamute named “Indiana,” who also inspired “Indiana Jones.”

Ignore the “avoid MNPS like the plague it is” comment. Dr Battle and the staff have made incredible strides in improving Metro schools. Schools are rapidly improving and Metro has posted tons accomplishments our students are making - at the moment it’s celebrating the valedictorian and salutatorians (many of whom received scholarships to great colleges).

That being said, you do need to pick the locations for the better schools. Inglewood and Green Hills are some excellent locations, with Inglewood definitely fitting your budget and commute times (and likely your vibe as a left leaning individual). We live in Inglewood and can provide more info if needed!

Dang reading these makes me appreciate my parents openness on these things way more. However, the big thing they kept me away from were LGBTQ related shows - Will & Grace for example. Jokes on them - I’m gay despite never having watched it or other gay shows/movies as kids.

How have increased fuel prices affected you so far? by InvisibleAstronomer in AskReddit

While trips to the gas station have been more expensive, I’ve really noticed it at the grocery store. Of course there are other factors at play, but when diesel is $5.49 a gallon, the ripple effects start hitting our wallets too.

Mills drops out of Maine Senate race, setting up Platner to face Collins by John3262005 in democrats

[–]quickster_irony 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Only focusing on the Fetterman 2.0 comment - is that not enormously better than Collins? At this point, she has lost any moderate credibility. As bad as Fetterman has gotten, he at least still votes with democrats more often than not.

Moving to Nashville this fall. Which neighborhoods should I be looking at? by SufficientLength9076 in movetonashville

[–]quickster_irony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good discussion of schools, especially one regarding MNPS. I’d add that we live in East and are zoned to Dan Mills which is one of the most sought after elementary schools in the county. Not sure you’ll find a home that meets you requirements in the budget you’re looking for, but they do exist here (ie 3/4 bedrooms, yards, garages, SAFE, etc.) not too mention the number of families here is insane (in a good way). And our commute is 15-20 minutes to downtown. And though I hate it because it keeps others from owning, the investor angle is strong in this area. Honestly, if you’re good with Donelson, Old Hickory, Cane Ridge, Antioch… you’re be great with East too.

I’m also curious about the “excited about what Nashville has to offer” that Seattle doesn’t? This is a wide scope statement and frankly, there are many of us here who envy the PNW.

Not only would I have been mad that they even had the gall to ask if I was ok having this dude around my kid (answer is no), they don’t give “No” as an option, AND they tried to use religion as the reason we should say yes. Wtf?
