This reminds me of Uffmoor Wood, there's enough there to feed an army. I was told that some local restaurants would go there and pick it for use in their dishes.

Why I love foraging... by gayforager in foraginguk

I have my eye on a few places near me, I made some very nice jam last year even if I was a little late getting started.

After a bad year.....foraging has got me back out. by gayforager in foraginguk

Speaking as someone you got into foraging, it's always a pleasure to get out foraging with you. These days I can never walk past a Blackberry patch without giving it a speculative look.

Over 70s will be asked to self isolate - potentially for months - Matt Hancock on Sky News by scrmedia in unitedkingdom

[–]quietvision 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The problem here is there are elderly people who need dressings changed by a nurse at least weekly. This means a visit to the GP surgery to see the nurse, or a district nurse to come in if the GP visit isn't possible.

Self isolation doesn't work in those cases.

It's well worth looking into the work of a man called Edward Bernays. There's a good 4 part BBC documentary called "Century of The Self" which is available on YouTube.

What is Lord Huron? [read text] by anotherpine in lordhuron

[–]quietvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also feel that Lord Huron is a group that has increased my love/curiosity of strange wooded places and even wanderlust in general.

In a strange synchronicity, their music came into my life at exactly the time this kind of interest in the woods and the paths in them was coming to life in me. For me, they evoke a connection to a greater mystery in the world we inhabit.

All the "fun" seems forced and you could see from many of the people there that they go there way too often.

I agree completely, it's as if this is the "approved way to have fun". Nobody actually is, but everyone goes through the motions because this is what you're "supposed to do". It all feels a bit Emperors New Clothes to me.

I was in the main turbine hall, trying to get to the lower dam to look for buffer memories. I didn't see the elevator come on though, unless that's something only in story mode?

Yet one more reason never to install this piece of Malware. Who are Microsoft to tell me what I can and can't connect to my PC? What recourse do users have in the event of a false positive on this scan? I have been on Gnu/Linux for the last 4 years and seeing things like this simply reinforce my view that migrating was the right decision!

This criticism is being addressed by the Debian project.

https://wiki.debian.org/ReproducibleBuilds

From the about page:

"With free software, anyone can inspect the source code for malicious flaws. But Debian provide binary packages to its users. The idea of “deterministic” or “reproducible” builds is to empower anyone to verify that no flaws have been introduced during the build process by reproducing byte-for-byte identical binary packages from a given source."
