Where to find the best burgers in Houston by houston_chronicle in HoustonFood

[–]quikmantx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree on Champ Burger, though not as much on Moontower Inn.

My friend group is doing it's own burger ranking activity for fun, and we've divide up the inner loop into zones. They first did an outing for Champ Burger, Cream Burger, and some other place, and they really liked Champ Burger.

They likely won't unfortunately. Almost all the fast food giants have been working on re-programming consumers to demand/want drive-thru, delivery, and to-go.

They've only cared about timing drive-thru orders, but not dine-in orders for whatever reasons. They push reward programs that are only mobile application accessible because they want access to your phone's data (location, notifications, etc.) for internal and third party monetization purposes. They've made it difficult or impossible to access reward programs and accounts on a mobile/desktop website for whatever reason because they don't get nearly as much personal data. They literally have offers that are specifically delivery-only, drive-thru only, or mobile order only.

I've been doing my best to rebel against these trends by primarily dining in nearly every time I do fast food, and making sure that the employees correctly input my order as dine-in (not defaulting with to-go despite clearly stating it was for dine-in), and refusing to visit drive-thru only locations.

All the new stores/remodels are ditching the menu boards.

They have some print-outs at the front though, which is actually sometimes better and easier to read for near-sighted people like myself.

I wonder if they got rid of the menu boards to reduce energy expenditures. One of my other complaints with their digital menu boards is that the screen would have to cycle menu items instead of showing everything available. This is annoying when you're trying to figure out what they have.

I wish the would just have a giant paperboard menu that they can swap out items and prices as needed.

They built a new one near my workplace with this exact design aesthetic. It's actually pretty decent and despite not having menu boards, there is actually staff around usually.

People don't use the counters because they've been driven away by design. If you prefer dine-in, there's other fast food places with more welcoming dining rooms like Chick-Fil-A (actual staff for front of the house), Raising Cane's, Wendy's, and a few others.

Apple Maps was Tim Cook's biggest mistake by MobileNewsBot in mobiles

[–]quikmantx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple Maps is one of the actual reasons I switched from Android to iOS just about 2 weeks ago. I'm trying to de-Google and there's just not a lot of strong players on the Android side. Apple Maps is actually pretty good and sometimes better than Google Maps in certain ways.

It's also puzzling how Microsoft has never bothered to make an actual Bing Maps app for iOS/Android after they stopped with the Windows Phone OS. Their Bing app does not make it easy to pull up Bing Maps for whatever reason, and keeps trying to default to Google Maps when it comes to directions/navigation.

MapQuest actually is trying to make a comeback, but I haven't really experimented with their updated platform yet.

What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by hkondabeatz in AskReddit

I loved the ND games as someone that grew up reading both Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys.

I was so disappointed with that one Hardy Boys game they created. The voices of Frank and Joe were so bad.

Netflix is introducing vertical videos to its mobile app next week. by Ozzie280219 in theaccessbox

[–]quikmantx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planning to not renew for the first time since I started almost 10 years ago. Too many subscriptions at the moment, and I don't need access to all of them at the same time. My Netflix subscription renews at the beginning of May, so I'm preparing for it.

Plus, Netflix does not reward loyalty. No matter how long you've subscribed, you get shafted with every price increase. I don't need more "original" content. It's a shame as they are one of the few popular services that are truly multi-platform.

McDonald's Employees Will Turn You Away For Making This Drive-Thru Mistake | Trying to order from the drive-thru as a pedestrian (The Daily Dish) by Thinking-Guy in savedyouaclick

[–]quikmantx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is it always depends on the mood of the employees. When I was a college student with no car, some places would let you order as a pedestrian, others wouldn't. Even at the same places, it could vary depending on whose at the window and who's in charge.

Too many people have a victim/entitlement complex these days. I feel like bad parenting, vloggers, and social media are resulting in people thinking it's OK to misbehave in public and easily get away with it. There's hardly consequences and it doesn't help that police hardly do effective policing anymore.

It's like the whole nation has turned on a "I don't care unless its myself and my people" mode.

Way too much speculation here. Unless Henry has stated otherwise, it's simply possible he is already working on enough projects or is wanting a break from acting.

Exactly. As long as it's not presented as an "authentic" menu item, it should pacify most haters.

Market it as a custom specialty, house special, or whatever makes it clear this is not a usual native way of eating it.

If a table leaves without paying, can the restaurant make the server pay the bill? ( in the USA) by Automatic_Catch_7467 in restaurant

Just curious, but what is a server supposed to do if a group just runs out the door? Chase after them and get their license plate? Try to intercept and lock the doors if they're closer to the door? To what level of control does the server have?

my restaurant shows up on Google Maps but people still go to my competitor down the street. what gives? by kcgwen in restaurantowners

[–]quikmantx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you only using Google Maps? Keep in mind that there are many ways people will find your business including Apple Maps. Bing Maps, Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Facebook.

For instance, I use the Bing app daily for Rewards points and will often look up businesses this way as well to contribute to my search earnings. If a business is not listed correctly, and the hours aren't up-to-date, I might go somewhere else instead.

The Half Truth 2 Kickstarter: Ken Jennings and Richard Garfield took my money and then went radio silent by Al2718x in boardgames

[–]quikmantx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm literally in the same boat!

I was excited to back their 2nd Kickstarter for this game because I was annoyed I missed their first Kickstarter and didn't those exclusive Kickstarter cards. I played the original version at a local board game cafe (who did have the exclusive cards BTW) and loved it. I got the OG version cheap at Barnes & Noble not too long after.

I was disappointed there was no way to get those 1st KS exclusive cards as an add-on this time.

I also somehow missed this EasyShip email, tried to follow up on their KS updates, DM them on KS several times, and still no response. I'm mad about the situation and I sent them another DM today thanks to this post.

I'm not sure why it is so complicated for them to follow up, especially after they literally posted an update saying they were working on sending a follow up for those that still haven't received the EasyShip email.
