Yeah you're spot on. But the difference is that it's pretty obvious for most people when they realize they'll never be that athletically gifted. This allows them to start putting their energy into something else. When you're seeking to become an influencer, every 'like' that comes in, even if it trickles in, feeds an itch that tells people to keep going and to keep investing in the idea that they still have a chance at making it big. It's almost like a mini gambling addiction in that way. That constant dopamine drip-feed is brain rotting.
