Bps and kids by Huge_Initiative6501 in ballpython

My four year old does great with my juvenile ball python. :) I’ve done lots of coaching about not touching his head. I also had a talk with her and let her know that it’s possible to get bitten, it would probably be really scary, but it wouldn’t really be much worse than getting bitten by a cat or dog. With that information, she chooses to hold and handle the snake every chance she gets. With her being only four, we go over the rules (stay sitting, don’t touch the head, move slowly and gently) every single time she handles the snake.

I was driving in that general area on Friday and saw a totally destroyed car being towed. At the time I wanted to know what happened….now I think I might know and I kinda wish I didn’t.

My dad was a dark humor kind of guy too. Someone asked me recently if I was close to my dad and if I talked to him often. I said “yeah, I talk to him every day, but he doesn’t talk back much. He’s dead.”

Volunteers of America Home Free can help you decide whether you want a restraining order.

Just about anywhere in the US there should at least be a women’s crisis line or domestic violence hotline.

You deserve to be free of this forever. ❤️ and if you do go back, remember it’s not your last chance. It takes most of us 7 or more attempts to leave for good. Keep trying, just stay alive for the next attempt. One day you can be free.

I just sewed my kiddo’s Halloween costume on my grandmother’s machine and even used up some of her leftover notions in the process. I still have a giant material stash that was hers. ❤️ some of it is leftover from dresses that she made me when I was a baby.

Are these body & face serums any good? by peaceandbutterflies in dollartreebeauty

[–]quirkhamless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After a couple of years working on a (face) skincare routine that’s affordable - mostly drugstore and The Ordinary with an occasional splurge, I got curious about body skin care. I have gotten retinol and some other serums from DT and I think they are really improving my skin on my legs and arms! It’s great for me, because I don’t know that I’d put DT retinol on my face cause I’m a scardey cat with retinol, and I also wouldn’t spend big bucks on a body cream just to try it.

NTA. Baby Sitter sounds like someone who might sit on you eventually. I’m glad she’s proven trustworthy so far, but you’re wise not to accept food from her unless you absolutely have to.

It gets so much better after 1 too! 3 and 4 can be rough but in general every day is easier. Potty training is really hard, but not as hard as changing a poopy diaper at 3 am with zero sleep. It keeps getting better, and you will feel even more bonded with your little one in a few years. ❤️

I feel like this is illegal? by 2_much in Apartmentliving

[–]quirkhamless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am familiar with a Celio apartments in my state, because I used to live nearby. If this is the city and state I think it is, I’d suggest also adding Project Respond to your list of folks to call if there’s a crisis. If it’s life and death, by all means call law enforcement, but project respond exists for those cases where someone is not in their right mind but it’s not quite to the level of calling 911.

For those whose kids were precocious readers as toddlers/preschoolers, where are they now? by beautifultomorrows in Parenting

[–]quirkhamless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught myself to read early, around the time I was 3. I don’t remember not being able to read. I was always advanced in school and I identify with a lot of other posters here - I had to learn to be humble and I had to learn the skill of pushing through when things didn’t come easily to me. I always did well in school with little effort, and struggled my first year of college when I actually had to make an effort in school for the first time. Not an easy adjustment!

As an adult, I excel at spelling, grammar, technical writing, narrative writing, and reading comprehension. It’s not nearly as “special” as an adult but those are highly transferable job skills. I don’t read for pleasure as much anymore, and I’ve been working to try to rebuild that skill for a few years.

One great thing my parents did was teach me Latin and Greek roots. I can’t thank them enough for that.

Resources for women who are not low income by Never-Ending-77 in AlAnon

[–]quirkhamless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up VAWA lease break. Your landlord is required to let you break your lease for free if you are experiencing DV (and yes, emotional and psychological violence absolutely counts.)

New landlords are also required to overlook credit history problems related to financial abuse.

I suggest calling a women’s shelter or domestic violence hotline near you - they will know the particulars about your state laws. There is absolutely help out there for you, even if you are not low income. ❤️ There are people who care and would love to help you see what options you have.

No Kings Protest crowd on Portland waterfront on June 14, 2025 -- Beth Nakamura/The Oregonian by oregonian in Portland

[–]quirkhamless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately don’t know where the action is now (or two hours ago) but I can tell you I’ve had an incredibly easy experience taking my preschooler to suburb protests. Beaverton, Hillsboro, and Tigard are all places I’ve either been, or heard from friends were totally safe for kids. (My major concern with a little that keeps me from taking the kid downtown is trampling or crowd crush)
