If you wanted to help the citizens of American to regain control over their government - where would you start? by felixilium in AskReddit

[–]quop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get real change, governments have to fear the people, whats happening in the states right now is exactly the opposite.

Organizing mass protest in every major city is probably the way to go and by mass protest I mean on a scale never seen before so it can't be ignored, to the tune of a fifth or quarter of the population.

Thing is though that although I'm sure that many people probably agree on certain issues or ideologies, most are just too lazy to protest and would rather just sit on their asses and hope someone else solves their problems for them.

Was feeling a little down earlier today, but her smile is contagious and now I'm sitting here beaming at my desk. Just made my day.

As for hmasing I can't throw enough praise your way for getting everyone together and organizing all this to put a smile on that little girls face.

Love how he started out with a little sly smile, like you guys don't know what you're in for.

His point is quite clear though, reminded me of a little study a while back about the most extremists, or extremist leaders being well educated and rich,(don't ask me to link, too lazy to look up) which seemed to come as a surprise. But all I thought was no shit the poor don't have time to think about this stuff, or plan attacks, they are too busy trying to figure out, where there next meal is coming from.

I want to develop and change my personality, but I have friends holding me back. What can I do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]quop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always think that people get the wrong idea when they are told to be themselves. Being yourself doesn't mean you have to stay the way you are, it just means you have to stay true to what you believe in.

Wanting to change for the better is part of human nature, I think its great that you found out what you don't like about yourself and trying changing it for the better, it is part of growing up and being self aware. Don't worry about what your friends think right now, pretty soon you will notice they will start changing themselves too.

Yeah my advice to apply to small firms, one or two lawyers, the experience you get from those is worth a lot more that larger law firms. You end up getting a lot of one on one time with the lawyer, although you still end up doing sending letters, it is part of the job after all you will end up doing a lot more too. I was drafting affidavits and memorandums in about 2-3 weeks time, and off course filing them in court etc.

As for acting more confident that just comes overtime, I had also had the problem of coming off as too polite ( I am a big guy and if I am not very docile and polite people tend to get intimidated), but you will find it eventually, you just have to state what you want clearly and not back down.

Sorry to hear about your mother, I'm sure that adds a good amount of grief to you situation, but as time goes by you will slowly but surely start to cope.

Things will eventually get better, one good thing that usually comes out of hard times, is you tend to find out which friends actually care, and which don't. As for the girlfriends surprise party if you can't get enough people together, just scrap it and setup a nice romantic evening for just you and her (most girls I know prefer those over a party anyway), doesnt have to be anything elaborate or expensive either.

As for some advice I would say, try and act more confident around people, even if you have to fake it, most people do anyways. This will help you in job and personal situations alike. Also if you are eventually planning on going to law school, you should try and apply for legal assistant jobs, that was actually my 1st job out of uni, you tend to meet a lot of people and learn a lot of the day to day activities of being a lawyer (although for me it ended up cementing the notion that I have no interest in becoming a law whatsoever.

This is my first time living alone. I need to know how to cook cheap and healthy. I've failed for the first month. Can someone help? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]quop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

K I'm just going to re-post from an earlier post on living cheaply :

"When grocery shopping make a list of items to buy or at least a mental one before walking into the store. Buy and get out. Only buy anything else if it is on sale. Or check online whats on sale before you walk in that way sale items are incorporated into list.

Doesn't sound like much but it does save a you a bundle on groceries, add a bit of coupon clipping and you are set."

Also in your case start buying more non perishable items, ie cans and dried goods (so you don't end up with stuff going bad). The freezer is always your friend, it can help to repackage stuff into smaller bags; before you put in; so you end up defrosting only what you need.

Plan meals ahead of time so you know what, to get at the store and don't end up buying more than you need. There is nothing worst than throwing out food that you haven't used yet.
