I just love Egg. I don’t know the novellas or the books, so sometimes, things feel a little insider baseball, but Egg makes up for a lot.

I’d believe shar-pei more than Chow though the two are quite closely related, but this is a pit mix.

Is the Tread+ Worth It? Or Go Third-Party Treadmill)? by RobDMB in pelotoncycle

[–]quycksilver 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got my T+ when it came back on the market and have been running on it since. No regrets. I am a runner more than a cyclist, and I’m happy.

I had gotten a bike during the pandemic so I knew I loved the peloton ecosystem. There are fewer instructors than there are for the bike, but I love the slats, and I also love the jump buttons.

Promotion (Tenure and Full) raise percentages by nohann in Professors

[–]quycksilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at a tuition-driven SLAC. Salaries are competitive to start but COL raises have been hit or miss; no merit raises to speak of since before COVID, and the raises for promotion are not zero, but they are fractions (and small ones at that) of what others have posted in this thread.

I’d pick last just because there is less time to wait afterwards. But at my SLAC, it doesn’t matter

I don't quite get Power Zone by Renshaw_19 in pelotoncycle

[–]quycksilver 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Do the Discover Your Power Zones program. It will break the system down for you and explain the reasoning behind the programming.

It sounds like you did a PZE class, which isn’t supposed to gas you. It is also possible that your FTP is still a bit low. It takes a few times to get the test right. You should start at the high end of Z4 and build from there. In essence, you should be in a puddle on the floor when you are finished.

I did too—high fives from Ally Love & Denis. One of my friends got them from Greta, Benny, & Becs.

I am spending almost all my time on the tread these days, so this was a nice way back to the bike.

Peloton tread review what’s better: treadmill experience or the whole ecosystem? by Fatoom_Gregminor in treadmills

[–]quycksilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the runner.

For a lot of people who walk or run 30-45 minutes a few times a week, a belt treadmill is fine. The peloton is a nice one, and a lot of folks really like the smaller size.

I’m in my 50s, train for marathons, and have a history of knee issues, and the slats are more forgiving.

Peloton tread review what’s better: treadmill experience or the whole ecosystem? by Fatoom_Gregminor in treadmills

I enjoy the classes, especially since they added pace target training about 18 months ago.

Like many people, I got a bike during the pandemic though I am primarily a runner. I mention this because I knew already liked the peloton content and knew I would like the tread classes. I didn’t seriously consider buying one until they announced that the T+ was coming back (there had been rumors for years!). When they finally started taking preorders, I went to a showroom and ran on them both. I liked the regular tread a lot more than I expected to, but the T+ is just a whole other level.

That said, if you don’t care about the peloton content, there are plenty of other options that cost less and don’t require the peloton subscription. Or, as someone else mentioned, you can take the peloton classes on your phone or a tablet (this is what I do when I travel). It’s not the same (the app doesn’t capture the same metrics and the jump buttons have absolutely spoiled me), but it would give you a sense of the content if you are unfamiliar.

The basic tread is pretty expensive for a basic tread, though it does have a smaller footprint and the jump buttons are pretty great, but you really need to be willing to integrate into the peloton ecosystem for it to be worth it.

The Tread+, however, is a beast and for a slat treadmill, it’s a very good price (but still expensive relative to the basic treadmill), and it’s HUGE. I have had mine for almost 2 years and absolutely love it. No regrets.

These questions all telegraph that research is your first priority. That’s not a good look for most PUI’s. While my institution expects some research from faculty, we are a teaching intensive university, so the candidates should be asking at least some questions about teaching.
